This isnt by any means the best set in the game, but it is quite a bit better than most. I managed to get a complete set of this fairly early in a ladder and it was actually an excellent stop gap before gg gear.
I really enjoy your thoughtful, thorough approach to these breakdowns. I'm sure you have a ton of content lined up, but I wanted to ask if you have considered doing anything like experimenting with interesting mercenary builds. For instance, my barb has a barb merc with an Eth Colossus Sword Voice of Reason, and Leviathan Shell + Vamp Gaze. And I'm also experimenting with Giant Skull Bone Visage with 2x 15%ias jewels for knockback and swing speed. He's flinging frozen orbs and ice blasts all over the place. I just think you would have a good take on something like that.

I wasn't thinking of *every* possible combination, just interesting mechanics/gear combos that get us away from the A2 merc that is so pervasive.
I finally switched to the act v merc for the wind Druid. Feels so good to use a different merc! And he is beyond my expectations with an oath and lawbringer. I know it’s not interesting but it’s not act 2!
They should really revamp the whole set idea… some sets with level 29 boots and level 71 armor makes no sense… plus a lot of items have affixes on them that make no sense… I also think every set item should have green bonuses .. Ps really digging the new intro!
Really like your videos for how you break each item down to it's merits and flaws and what it can be used best for! :) I was always kinda curious about using this set (with upgrades) on a Frenzy barb along with the Bul Kathos set (especially since they gave that set a good boost in patch 2.4) so that'll be both sets equipped at the same time. Combined set bonuses seem to be pretty decent with a whopping 550% damage to demons. Sure it's off weapon ED but that's still quite a lot. Throw in an Arreat's face for the helm and maybe put in one hard point for berserk to deal with physical immunes (either directly through berserk or the magic damage that it gives frenzy although it'll require quite some + to skills to even possibly hit a decent amount of magic damage but the dual set combo with arreat's face already gives +7 to all skills) Right now I'm trying to put this idea into practice but am still in the process of farming the items. Obviously I don't expect the end result to be as powerful as using rune words but it doesn't seem like it's gonna be a completely weak build either and that hell difficulty might still be viable with this concept? Any chance you'd be agreeable to doing a video on this to see what it's like? Totally understand if you're busy with other projects instead but was just curious.
@@GGMentor Tried it! It's pretty good! Managed to clear Hell difficulty relatively comfortably. Physical immunes were annoying but not unmanageably so. Even managed to go up against Uber Diablo and the other Ubers (albeit with help from life tap charges) except for Uber Baal. His Physical Immune spawns are just too much to handle. So Uber Tristram was almost doable had it not been for Uber Baal. Update: Went at it again and this time I succeeded in defeating Uber tristram with the dual set combo! It's just about possible! Using Howl made a world of difference and was extremely useful against Baal and Diablo. Thanks again for all the D2R tips!
I use this set with Jalals, hoto, spirit, ravenfrost, and soj on my wind druid to run players 7 pits and ancient tunnels. Really just until I get shako,maras, and arachnids. But players 7 anything in hell is pretty good for the set. I think the res is what helps most.
If the armor was better maybe plus 1 to All Skills with let’s say 2 sockets that would go a long way toward making this set more of a contender. You could rock it on a pally bc u don’t have to give up ur shield or wep slots.
should work well with a sazabi set? putting 2 full sets together for bonuses should do a bit better than one set. maybe do a series that you put different full sets together and see how well they do.
I actually use this on my armageddon Druid for now, until I find something better. The massive fire resist is great with the Sundering charm and the +skills are nice too.
Change that fire res on the chest to lightning and multiply the poison damage by 20 and you got a ok all around set for any weapon user who is still working toward their chase items.
I only like Laying of Hands in this set as it is way too good for me and also not that hard to find. I can't even bring myself to replace it with my almost perfect hit power gloves that I crafted for bowazon. That +damage to demons is just too strong when almost every enemies are demons.
Well, I technically can use this set even at Hell difficulty for any class but casters will find it easier to play with I guess. Just because until you find a decent weapon for fighter class, not even talking of creating a runeword like Grief, you'll find at least 3 full Immortal King sets :)
Have used the belt sometimes it’s like a better night smoke kinda sorta . But Iv never used anything else from the set I have everything but The amulet and it’s cool but I haven’t found it. Basic rares can easily outmatch that amulet unless you really need it for O skills.
It's weird how only with the body armor equipped, the 3-piece poison damage set bonus changed to 11 over 1s. In the video when you have 3 and 4 pieces equipped, body armor excluded, the posion damage from set bonus is 22 over 3s. But when you have 4 and 5 pieces equipped, body armor included, the poison damage is again 11 over 1s. Anyhow, it's definitely a negligible amount of damage 😂 They should bump it up like 10-15 times.
Does poison damage apply per hit so that every hit on the target the 11/second damage kicks? If that is the case, it could still be useful in a character like frenzy barb, i think.

I.e. it's the other way around, a higher frequency of hits on a target will actually lower the amount of poison damage applied (although marginally).
I've had the boots for a while, wasn't particularly useful so I just have them taking up space in my ridiculously limited inventory. I just picked up LoH gloves, I'll be using on my Zealadin. This set is in need of a make over. It just doesn't make any sense. For a melee character that armor is kinda weak and limited with its stats. It needs to be more like a Tal Rashas for melee and it's kinda failing at it.
I think the Tiny amount of poison dmg was put in to prevent monster healing? If it was design to take down bosses (Big fat demons) I guess that makes some sense?

I would wear the entire set, my belt is an effin Goldwrap ffs. Dropped the boots just now. Forgot this exists. DO the chances for HOLY BOLT STACK!? 15% chance is NOT too bad at least! And I will *NUKE* demons lol My hands belt and ammy are also free right now as the gear in them is only for res/mitigation. Go figure.
Damn. Wonder if there's a way to gear a pally for Mfind without it royally dying to everything even at p1 on hell... My late NM/cow drops were... well that pally is level 80 now and I'm currenly only running Goldwrap (I have had terrible belt luck drops in general) Least I dropped another Snakecord for the archerdin alt... unfortunately... we're talking Hell on P3 here :( But yeah if you combine it with a Hand of Blessed Light it just happens to *work*. Here's to hoping. Can't be worse than dropping normal run countess runes on Hell difficulty!

If a paladin wears the gloves and has 20 hard points into fist of the heavens, that free holy bolt will do 3636-4848 magic damage to demons and undead... Fist of the heavens gives 50% per point so at 20 points that's 1000% so it's actually very good for a free holy bolt. Mind you spending 20 points so your on melee hit proc can do a bunch of damage is not very good. You won't be using fist of the heavens and honestly you might as well just build full for FoH, since you can also max holy bolt itself and proc a massive number of like 10k damage holy bolts.
You are calculating it wrong. On hits skills are effected by synergy bonuses, but not plus to skills or the actual level of the skill. If the gloves say level 3 then it is frozen at lvl 3. Then you take the lvl 3 damage and add 1000% So the correct calculation would be 24-32+1000% = 264-352 per bolt
@@GGMentor You mention the defense numbers as if it always comes with those numbers, but they are not fixed. When an armor does not have %enhanced defense, the armor will drop with a random defense in its range. Items that have %enhanced defense will always roll the max defense value on the base item and then apply the ed. This goes for all armor (white, magic, set, etc). For example Laying of Hands - they are bramble mitts, which have 54-62 defense, then with the +25 it becomes 79-87. You obviously used some kind of perfect drop mod or something along with hero editor to show these sets, so the values are all perfect. But the item itself could spawn with less defense.
I once used this set on a Bowazon, and another time on a Barbarian. It's okay, but not spectacular. Usually I only use the gloves on my melee characters.
The only reason I can think of for the poison dmg is to prevent monsters healing, but except for Ubers it's really not that important, and some Ubers are poison immune anyway.

I do, it's a ridiculously powerful build that requires no Sunder charm or even negative resistance. While easily handling everything the game tosses at it.
I always hated this set because its absolutely perfect to run nightmare with, basically your next step after Sigon's(Less pieces so it opens a few more builds that sigon shield prevents) in a way, but like you said once you can actually use it why bother? I've always wondered if instead of having all these useless items clog the item drop table, just have these items spawn with Charsi, god knows after 20 years Im sure she has PLENTY of back stock. LOL It's honestly the only way these sets will probably ever be used if Blizzard doesn't make more changes and free up the table so people wont have to spend months collecting items or dealing with trade/resell websites. Those places only exist because of items being so incredibly difficult to drop and being actually useful and then the stat split on some items is so severe it renders MOST of the drops Charsi food.
All sets in d2r are not viable and not worth using....They have absolutely no impact on one's character....I hope the new patch changes this and makes it worth iit to use to give the same importance as using a runeword created item or unique items which is at the heart of d2r
Whenever I don't attempt to upgrade an item even if I know it won't upgrade I get a horde of comments saying "but what about x upgrade" If I do pretend to upgrade items that can't be upgraded I get your kinda comments 🤣
Only when the poison consumes all frames of the monster's regenerative cycle. Clearly shown by the green color of the monster. As soon as the monster is no longer green they can regenerate again. More often than not poison this small won't even turn the monster green. If it does it's only for a fraction of a second

The set overall is just terrible. The level requirements are all over the place.
The gloves and the amulet are the only pieces I’ve used. The belt is alright but even rare belts seem to outshine it most of the time.

Poison prevents monster heal while applied. Maybe that is why we see these tiny amounts on gear pieces.

Since you want to "get the numbers right"... => Since these gear pieces don't have ed on them, all their armor values are ranges.

All items have a slight variation on the base numbers.

The ability to upgrade sets is coming in patch 2.4. I am performing these upgrades on 2.4 public test realm.

It works against Regen like a fish swimming upstream though.
all sets need level reductions by 5 on average. also -10% requirements across the board

LOL It's honestly the only way these sets will probably ever be used if Blizzard doesn't make more changes and free up the table so people wont have to spend months collecting items or dealing with trade/resell websites. Those places only exist because of items being so incredibly difficult to drop and being actually useful and then the stat split on some items is so severe it renders MOST of the drops Charsi food.
All sets in d2r are not viable and not worth using....They have absolutely no impact on one's character....I hope the new patch changes this and makes it worth iit to use to give the same importance as using a runeword created item or unique items which is at the heart of d2r
Bramble mitts, dusk shroud and mythril coil are elite version, thats basic D2 knowledge. That said I like your videos overall.
Whenever I don't attempt to upgrade an item even if I know it won't upgrade I get a horde of comments saying "but what about x upgrade"
If I do pretend to upgrade items that can't be upgraded I get your kinda comments 🤣

The poison prevents monster heal
Only when the poison consumes all frames of the monster's regenerative cycle.
Clearly shown by the green color of the monster.
As soon as the monster is no longer green they can regenerate again.
More often than not poison this small won't even turn the monster green.
If it does it's only for a fraction of a second
