I’ve known Jerami Grant from his AAU days playing for DC Assault with my brother. He’s always been extremely quick and athletic. Actually, the advanced stats DID see "him transforming into a star so quickly." This season is not even his BEST year by many if not most metrics. This not really difficult to understand. Give a player more touches and more shots and his box-score stats will prove dramatically. Though this comes, almost without exception, with a fall in scoring efficiency and play on defense. Though not NEARLY as much as some basketball pundits might claim.
@@patrick7932003 Woods has alrady great in Detroit 2nd half last season after Drummond got traded. No one saw Grant come in and get this number really high.
@@faizaliqbal2284 Christian Wood was a beast in the 2nd half of the season I get that. But we compare MIPs to a full season, not half a season. Grant's numbers are impressive, but if we compare the difference s of their stats between 2020 (full season) and 2021, Christian Wood deserves more.
Jerami Grant is one of my favourite players in the league. Perfect modern day player. 6'8" freakishly athletic, can defend, switch, block shots, shoot the three, finish at the rim and he's become a good shot creator.
"The pistons don't have a bright future." Also the pistons: 2 top 10 rookies along with Killian Hayes in which he was injured for the whole season dam and he's probably top 3 passers in this rookie class. Also were getting a top 5 rookie next season.... But go off.
Love him as a Player and he seems like a great Teammate. Still I feel like leaving a great situation at a title contender, to be Nr 1 at a terrible team in the east, is not what Basketball is all about. But maybe I'm just naive or romantic
I feel the opposite. He has the guts to go from a great situation to a terrible Detroit team, because he believes in himself and his abilities. If not that, what is basketball about? You say you're a "romantic", then why do you hope for the lesser "romantic" situation. To sit behind two other stars and coast to the playoffs sounds boring as fuck, when you can be the leader of another team instead.
wtf are you talking about these players don't owe these teams nothing especially Denver he was TRADED there he didn't choose them. teams trade players all the time ain't no loyalty
I think he set himself up perfectly for the future: when this contract runs out he is only 29. He has proven he can be a 20+ points scorer or a great role player. Now when he is 29 he is free to chose between a small contract on a championship team or a huge contract on a playoff team. This move gave him options for his prime.
@@HB-ih9qp I didn't say he is owing someone. I literally said he seems like a great teammate. Obviously he can Do whatever he wants to do. I just emphasised that the way I look at sports (which is obviously completely different to someone earning his living with it) wanting to be the number 1 guy on a terrible team over being the third or fourth option on a contender shows priorities I do not share. But it's easy to say for me, it's neither my money nor my career... Crazy how quick you got triggered :D
@@oscarerlandsson8713 I guess we have different approaches to the game then... I think it depends on the priorities. If you mean he believes in his abilities to be a efficient and great number one option without having team sucess (I know it's not his fault), thats cool. Being third or fourth option and trying to win a chip doesn't seem boring to me...
If the Pistons ended up getting the 1st pick, they should draft Cade Cunningham. Him along with Grant and a healthy Killian Hayes would be a great playoff team.
He’s on a terrible team...it’s easy to shine when there’s garbage around you (like Kevin Love on the Timberwolves). Call me back when he consistently posts these numbers on winning teams.
If you look at the Pistons' games, you can see that they have all (but one) been competitive. Jerami Grant is making a somewhat bigger impact for them, now they just need to close out games.
what’s sad is the point he made about them being over the cap, they’ll probably trade him to a team just to get his contract off the books, because his value will be much higher and it’s gonna suck because other teams won’t treat him the way Detroit and Duane Casey is, which is allowing him to play free.
Get out with your “real fan”. I knew he was gonna be good but nobody could’ve expected this. Im probably a bigger fan than you so get out with your “real fan”
He really did try gunning for that MIP award 😭 Good thing for once in a while, the higher-ups didn't slack and did pick Julius Randle as the winner (deservingly so)
you literally don’t know basketball if you think it’s inflated stats actually look at the pistons before saying their a bad team pistons literally have all scorers on their team but don’t have a real point guard to put it all together
@@pandawolf5990 You think grant would average those stats on a actual good team? No because hes not gonna shot near 20 shots every game, hes literally shooting almost as much shots as steph curry. Hes a 15 and 6 player simple, not a allstar player, but a good starter
He's made some good improvement but your argument of 'disliking the good numbers on a bad team' is odd. You're right that it is impressive to score well in the league but you're missing the actual point being made. "Good numbers on a bad team" is speaking to the actual skill of the player and the value they bring towards a title team. Grant on a title team would have a role like he did in Denver, not like he does now. He doesn't raise the team to a level where they're even in playoff contention, and frankly someone has to take the shots for a team. So is he talented? Yeah! He has had a productive career with steady improvement. Is this run impressive? Yes as well, he's scoring well in the NBA. That's not easy. Can we actually measure his improvement from last year to this and call him a legitimate All-Star yet? Not really, this honestly reminds me of Monte Ellis in Dallas. Empty stats that were fairly impressive, but on a bad team that couldn't achieve anything because he wasn't good enough to elevate them
Feel free to list some role players that averaged an efficient 25 points over the past ten years. That’s excellent production and he’s doing it efficiently
It's not all that surprising, he's doing similar things to what he was doing with Denver, especially the bubble. He's just getting more opportunities tryna get that bag
Last year he put up 12 points on 9 shots in 26 mins, this year he's putting up 24 points on 18 shots in 36 mins. So basically he just doubled his shot attempts which has resulted in doubling his ppg with a slight dip in efficiency. It's not always that simple as some people can't handle the added load, but he scaled up just fine. Strangely he has doubled his rebounds going from pf to sf. The extra 10 mins accounts for some of that, but not all.
I’ve thought Jerami Grant has been very good for a while. The reason he’s looking so much better is because he gets more opportunity on the bad Detroit Pistons. Saying it’s because he’s on a bad team is not a knock on him, I for sure think he is all-star talent.
As a nuggets fan, I saw glimpses of him doing this throughout his last season with Denver. I thought he’d average 20ppg probably but if he keeps this up for the season, that’ll be ridiculous.
I think Jerami Grant was probably one of the biggest surprises to me, He wasn't really on my radar until he traded to the pistons. I gotta say Im loving him, and it feels good to have our best player actually want to play for us, unlike Blake Griffin.
I bought an autographed rookie card of him. Sent it to PSA. Pistons don’t get a lot of attention cause they don’t have any stars, jerami grant has hella potential. He’s also related to Horace grant
The best way to determine whether a player's stats are empty or not is to look at their efficiency. Michael Carter-Williams averaged 16-6-6 as a rookie, but those numbers were empty because he shot the ball poorly and turned the ball over a lot. Jerami Grant's aren't empty since he's shooting the ball well.
So many haters in the comment section saying he’s only good cuz he’s playing for the Pistons. If that was the logic then how come his teammates aren’t thriving also? He believed in himself that’s why he wanted a bigger role. Even after signing a big ass contract he’s still motivated and proving that he’s more than just a defender. Gotta respect that!
I always thought he was underrated before this season, he's athletic, a pretty good shooter and a really versatile and skilled defender.... ofc when he is given the role he has on the pistons he will be good

That is a smart move financially. He can’t step out the shadows of Jokic and Murray.
Pistons young core is very underrated, seko, killian hayes, Isaiah Stewart, josh Jackson, saddiq bey are all quality pieces
facts casey just needs to give them minutes
@@jackyates7786 ong cause all of them have very good potential
Nice vid as usual
Grant is definitely going for that MIP this season hope he wins it also I make videos as well
I think Christian Wood has a higher chance of winning MIP if he keeps up his stats.
Look at Grant man, so inspirational
When you realize that he's the one pouring water on a bowl
Yep IBALLRIGHT and Jerami are the same person no cap
Jerami Grant is one of my favourite players in the league. Perfect modern day player. 6'8" freakishly athletic, can defend, switch, block shots, shoot the three, finish at the rim and he's become a good shot creator.
i didn’t even know that he wasn’t on the nuggets anymore
"The pistons don't have a bright future."
Also the pistons: 2 top 10 rookies along with Killian Hayes in which he was injured for the whole season dam and he's probably top 3 passers in this rookie class.
Also were getting a top 5 rookie next season.... But go off.
JG: my powers have doubled since the last time we met
Jokic: Good, twice the pride, double the fall
Glad he's made a jump offensively. Let's hope he takes that improvement further. On a winning squad.
The MIP award between Grant and Wood will probably come down to which team has the better record, because both guys have been stellar this season.
He leading them straight to the lottery pick in the draft😂😂
I'm not complaining. Hope they suck the next couple years so we can hopefully draft some studs.
Thats literally EXACTLY what we want , Cade Cunningham is ours 😎
@@Shzzaam fax
I went to the same middle school as Jerami Grant and met him once at my tournament I was playing in. Pretty cool I guess
Nuggets offered him the same money too. Crazy.
He probably took the chance of being on the pistons for more mins, bigger role and a chance for good exposure
so what. he wanted a bigger role. & he's living up to it
If the Pistons ended up getting the 1st pick, they should draft Cade Cunningham. Him along with Grant and a healthy Killian Hayes would be a great playoff team.
He’s on a terrible team...it’s easy to shine when there’s garbage around you (like Kevin Love on the Timberwolves).
Call me back when he consistently posts these numbers on winning teams.
Exactly
Obviously he’s gonna shine on a shit team but you can’t discredit the fact that it’s making him become an actual first option instead of what he was
How come his teammates aren’t thriving then if they’re surrounded by garbage?
If you look at the Pistons' games, you can see that they have all (but one) been competitive. Jerami Grant is making a somewhat bigger impact for them, now they just need to close out games.
@@TheGlassCoke2001 For real. They seem to play better with Blake on the bench too.
what’s sad is the point he made about them being over the cap, they’ll probably trade him to a team just to get his contract off the books, because his value will be much higher and it’s gonna suck because other teams won’t treat him the way Detroit and Duane Casey is, which is allowing him to play free.
Anyone who’s a real fan and actually watches all/most nba games would’ve seen flashes and knew he was gonna be nice smh ✊🤷♂️
Get out with your “real fan”. I knew he was gonna be good but nobody could’ve expected this. Im probably a bigger fan than you so get out with your “real fan”
@@thegrimsbaby5085 absolutely sad comment
8:30 It sounds like he’s rapping over the beat
I was mad asf when we traded him to the nuggets
@Nebula bruh what
@@stanclickin Okc traded him to Denver
He really did try gunning for that MIP award 😭 Good thing for once in a while, the higher-ups didn't slack and did pick Julius Randle as the winner (deservingly so)
I mean his stats are kinda inflated since hes on the pistons of all teams lmao. But yeah, hes a pretty good player, not a allstar though like cmon.
No, he just has a bad team around him
you literally don’t know basketball if you think it’s inflated stats actually look at the pistons before saying their a bad team pistons literally have all scorers on their team but don’t have a real point guard to put it all together
@@pandawolf5990 4-13?????????? OH THEY ARE NOT A BAD TEAM BTW
@@pandawolf5990 They just have washed players like Blake and rose lol
Empty stats that were fairly impressive, but on a bad team that couldn't achieve anything because he wasn't good enough to elevate them
Who else think he can be a all star
I do. Considering the veteran talent that this ass face making the video called washed up. He has room to continue growing
I have always seen his potential and im happy everyone else is starting to see it too
Dude is playing for like the worst team in the league. He's a good player, a great role player, but that's how far it gets
yep
playing like an all star because of such a bad team
Feel free to list some role players that averaged an efficient 25 points over the past ten years. That’s excellent production and he’s doing it efficiently
@@ztlabraptor211 bruh read my other comment about 2 hours ago.
@@calebellington2167 you just agreed with him...
I’ll ask the exact same question to you then lmao
@@ztlabraptor211 agreed with who?
what question
As an okc fan who watched him for a few seasons, the potential was there :)
Everyone who left Russel westbrook becomes better.
It's not all that surprising, he's doing similar things to what he was doing with Denver, especially the bubble. He's just getting more opportunities tryna get that bag
As an OKC fan, I´m glad Jerami is doing great
Last year he put up 12 points on 9 shots in 26 mins, this year he's putting up 24 points on 18 shots in 36 mins.
I’m an OKC fan, saw this coming, this man was always clutch and under played. Was a shame he was traded
Greatest fantasy pickup of the year for me he went undrafted in my fantasy league
Putting big numbers in any team is more than impressive
these stats is hard to get if your in a winning team but if your in a losing team its makeable anyway, Grant keeps improving.
I bought an autographed rookie card of him. Sent it to PSA. Pistons don’t get a lot of attention cause they don’t have any stars, jerami grant has hella potential. He’s also related to Horace grant
Jerami Grant's rise to relevancy seems pretty much impressive. I wish he does well in Portland alongside Dame.
Pacers fan. Really liked Jerami's game ever since he got to the league.
This is your best video
I always thought he was underrated before this season, he's athletic, a pretty good shooter and a really versatile and skilled defender.... ofc when he is given the role he has on the pistons he will be good
