I have all the Rock Raiders sets (recently all rebuilt in my workshop) and while I don’t have any Power Miners sets I have a range of figures including one of the silver ones to fill up the vehicles
If they rebooted Power Miners with the style from the first two waves, they'd make so much money. I recently found myself in possession of some new-in-box Power Miners sets from the first and second wave and I didn't realize how much I'd missed Power Miners.
Personally, I really enjoyed the third wave of power miners. Maybe because the only power miners set i had was the mech. But I found 3 out of the 4 sets here to be really solid. Although truthfully I can admit it was definitely a step down from the previous two. I think these sets did a solid job, but i guess lacked the iconic factor the first two waves had.
nah man I still love these sets. I only got the small one and the magma mech but I think they all look pretty sweet. I just love power miners in general. I only wish there where a few more lava themed sets, like it always felt weird to me that there was never a crystal king equivalent for the lava monsters. Was Eruptor actually the reason for the earthquakes? Is there actually a canon answer? I think I just assumed it was the monsters in general Still though I love the lava idea and I like that it feels like the theme kinda got to have an ending even if it feels kinda rushed
Power Miners Was The Most Amount Of Sets I Ever Got From Single Lego Series, In Fact, Asides Polybags, The Only Set I Don't Have Is The Underground Mining Station. This And Mars Mission Were My Favorite Lego Series. O.K. I Admit The Lava Monsters Looked Cool, But I Honestly Felt The 3rd Wave Was Kind Of Flat.
Yeah, my issue with the third theme was it went away from its core of being mining focused, and instead went to capturing lava monsters. Had they done a balance of the two, I think it could’ve worked, but, alas, we got what we got. Also, Erruptorr never seemed like the final villain to me, and my head canon, for what caused the earthquakes gets into real conspiracy theory territory. Surely there was a lava monster of similar size to the crystal king anyways. I theorized that the earthquakes were caused artificially so the mining company would have government funding and permission to explore the tunnels far beneath the various countries of the LEGO earth. For this theory to work, someone would’ve already had to have discovered the underground cave systems to some degree, before the earthquakes began/were caused. Assuming this happened, whoever would’ve discovered the system wouldn’t have known about the rock monsters initially, otherwise, the vehicles that were sent down, would have been equipped with special machinery to either attack or capture these creatures. What we see in the first wave of sets as far as defenses go, seem to be improvised. The second wave still has improvisation going on, but it’s now evolved a little bit. Titanium command, even having a cage for a single rock monster. And then, after the rock monsters have been studied after the events of the second wave, and the lava zone was discovered, it’s not too hard to make a couple assumptions/mini theories that tie up most of the loose ends. 1-it is reasonable to assume that the rock monsters would’ve been discovered to be an even greater source of power than just the crystals themselves. 2-with the discovery of the lava zone, lava monsters would’ve then been found to contain even more energy than the basic rock monsters. 2.5-so, it’s entirely plausible, that company and/or government officials were already going to send a wave of vehicles down to start harvesting the rock monsters for their power, but then switched gears upon the discovery of lava monsters (we can tell that they’ve studied lava monsters, at least a little bit before the third wave as they know that water is a good way to combat them, and have even developed ways to successfully trap them) 3-the public would likely be itching for answers by this point as to what was causing the quakes. So, after the accidental discovery of Erruptorr, the biggest thing found in the lava zone, officials would pin the blame on him in order to satisfy the public. Meanwhile they went about continuing their harvest of the unfortunate lava monsters to power LEGO City… (and this would explain the need for vehicles not sent to kill, but specifically to weaken and capture these creatures)
Wave 3 is a great idea add in some firefighting equipment with heavy mining gear like a fire truck with a drill instead of ladder or maybe a tractor with a drill and water tank trailers. Instead they go sci fi and loose the mining equipment
Can you make a video about what Atlantis sets were meant to be power miners? Also brains from power miners is featured in Atlantis correct me if I'm wrong?
personally my main issue with wave 3 is a similar thing to yours where most of the vehicles aren't meant for mining, like there's only two that look like they could fit into wave 1/2 which are lavatraz since it's shown to be used a crystal storage and could probably fit in near something like the underground mining station, and claw catcher which looks like a vehicle that was refit to use the water equipment instead of being something to pick up and transfer crystals like the crystal sweeper would. but we can't forget wave 3's biggest crime of not giving Combustix a matching trans-yellow crystal despite it being an actively used colour at the time, it wasn't even a mistake either according the lego the wrong crystal being used might have been 100% intentional from the start which is a slightly annoying thing that we still can't fix to this day. also do we know officially what power miners sets were scrapped and moved to atlantis/other themes or is it just speculation?
Yes! Actually Mark Stafford, a designer for Power Miners, made a post on his Flickr about The Undersea Explorer originally being a Power Miners set. There's other instances too, but this is the most notable. www.flickr.com/photos/nabii/8688809628/in/photostream
The one part I truly disagree with (aside from the colors and outifts, because I really do get your point) is the Claw Catcher slander. Ya, the build isn't astounding or anything (specifically by todays standerds), but that play feature more than makes up for it. Getting it to work as well as it does is a marvel of lego engineering.
Yeah I agree, third wave was no where near as good as the first two. But even with that being said, power miners is still probably my favorite line of all time. Would love to see it brought back
The final Power Miners armor is some of the best minifig armor ive ever seen. Silver is such a boss color
I used these minifigure torsos to build my own Cyberman figures from Doctor Who. They fit those quite well.
I have all the Rock Raiders sets (recently all rebuilt in my workshop) and while I don’t have any Power Miners sets I have a range of figures including one of the silver ones to fill up the vehicles
The Third Wave looks alright, but compared to the First and Second wave it just doesnt compare.

I feel like I never even got to see any of these sets. I really like the silver figures
i do agree thath the colors are strange and it was rushed
the things i like are the lava monsters and the new looks for the miners
Lava monsters are just plain cool. Eruptor’s right up there with Rock Rage as an amazing figure.
So much nostalgia, anyone know where I can buy some sets. I had some when I was a kid, but I gave most of my legos away ( worst mistake ever)
I would try Bricklink or eBay. Mostly bricklink, it can be cheaper
Now that I have all the wave 1 sets and those sets in wave 2 I wanted, I don't even want any wave 3 sets.

I have the smallest set of this wave I agree with everything you had to say
So do we have images of the repurposed/canceled wave 3 sets?

Another point to add to your theory is, I wonder what happened to Brainz and what is the story behind him moving on to the Atlantis team.

It will definitely be a video, but I don’t have the Atlantis sets that were moved over just yet
I feel like there should’ve been more monster designs like a base for them a volcano or more giant brick built monsters
i miss power miners they Need to bring them back
Please, please please do a review on the 75337 AT TE!!
Noted.

I regret never having power miners, i was interested but too young to buy then myself

Would love to see it brought back
I like the rock monsters 😊
My problem with Wave 3 of Power Miners is that we got only 3 sets. If we got more sets, it wouldn't be considered so problematic.
i remember this was the least interesting. like it was yesterday. even tho im 20 now lol
I don't know why I was recommended this video, but yes dude, I totally agree.
Nah, lava monsters were cool
You’re 100% correct
