I used parchment paper one time because I didn't have access to corn husks. I was living abroad in Asia. They tasted fine, but like the others have said, there really is no replacement for the flavor the corn husks add.

I started using Walsh paper instead of corn husks. No need to wash, rinse and dry. The tamales come off clean every time.
I agree it's easy and doesn't tear but adds zero flavor as corn husks really do.
