When I “bathe” my cats I use a toothbrush that I don’t use and the toothbrush feels like their mothers tongue so I soak the toothbrush in warm water and gently stroking my cats and they enjoy it bc it feels good to cats especially kittens bc it reminds them of their mother and thinks she is with them. This is a nice and relaxing way for your cats to get clean

I don't bath my cat. Learned that the hard way🏥. I use a leave in pet soap that works really good.
Some cats like it when you put a towel at the bottom so their feet wont get too wet.
My aunt got a cat but it was already really old basicly a teenager and it’s weird cause when you wash your hands he jumps up and starts playing in the water and love takeing baths and when’s u take a shower the cat joins u 😂

Ive had cats my whole life and we never bathed them, they were always clean thats why they do it themselves.You accept them they way they live unless you are deathly allergic to cats then let them be.
It's not a weird infatuation with water. All cats and dogs prefer RUNNING water rather than sitting water. Their instincts tell them running water is fresh and healthy and sitting water is more prone to have unpleasant parasites and stuff. That's why dogs like to drink out of the toilet and Bella comes running at the sound of running water.

You are not suppose to bath cats to often, They have natural schampo on the body and if you bath them to much you take that away. Cats clean themselves good enough without human helping them to much, that is why you know that if a cat stop clean themselves something is wrong. Some cats you can have sometimes even if you are allgeric, and its not about if they have long or short fur and that has not to do with given them baths. (ps my sister is allergic and a cousin was so I have experience).

Tip put a towel on the bottom of the sink so she doesn’t slip most cats don’t like the feeling of the sink slipping or being wet so if you put a towel on the bottom they have something to grip on (btw luv all your vids💙)

yeah that works wonders and also not having the water running is a good way to alleviate the terror of water, I fill up a large bowl of warm water and dribble on the back with a wash cloth to wet them down. then softly massage in the soap before repeating the water to rinse it off and 'petting' them with the wash cloth.
That didn’t work for me. The cat just grabbed the towel or it just got pushed outta the way. I might try again. I actually stopped bathing the cats for the most part...

What I normally do when giving a cat a bath is put a towel on the bottom of the sink. Cats don't like slipping and the towel will fix that. Next thing is you're gonna use both sides of the sink. The first side of the sink is for giving the cat a bath (with the towel). The second side is for holding the water that you will scoop up with a cup to soak/rinse the cat off with.
The cat will still complain about the bath ether way, but more then likely won't be as traumatized about it. I've always started out giving any of my cats a bath for the first time this way and haven't had too much trouble other then them meowing a lot.

yeah I tried it for both my dogs and cats and it really helps more than you think in calming them down to bath them.
that actually helps with a lot of cats and dogs, its because they don't like the feel of certain tubs and sinks because they feel like their not gripping onto something and it freaks them out.

Why is everyone saying dont declawing, did they mention declawing her at some point and I missed or is everyone just trying to make sure they dont without being prompted
They’ve never said anything about declawing so I’m also unsure why people need to comment that on every video with the cat in it. In fact, they talked about having her nails trimmed which is the proper thing to do. I don’t know why anyone would think they’d declaw a cat given how they obviously feel about their animals.
It’s so obvious it’s in the first two minutes of the video... 1:04 it clearly says “I got her nails clipped at the vet”
M Durham first of all, declawing a cat is just like taking half of our fingers off, those are their literal fingers to get a hold of things. And it does mention at 1:04 about the declawing. I don’t know if y’all are dead or something but actually watch before commenting that they didn’t.

Angelina Tan You should probably avoid lecturing people because you don’t know what you’re talking about - getting her nails clipped is just like you clipping your nails. In a couple of weeks/months they’re long and pointy again and you repeat the process. Declawing is completely different - I actually knew that without you explaining it to me.

Agreed. Anyone who wonders why it's bad should watch the Animal Planet videos from Jackson Galaxy and you'll understand why. Declawing a cat isn't just taking off the nails (which is painful enough. imagine someone pulling all your nails out of their nail beds) but it's more like if someone took off the end of each of your fingers down to the first knuckle. It also leads to issues with the litter box. Those nerve endings are raw so many cats can't walk on litter due to such pain. That means more accidents on your floor. Just trim your cat's nails, give them enough furniture of their own, and it'll be fine. If it's a real issue, they sell those silicone caps you can put over the nails.

@Pate Editz In a way it is. declawing a cat takes away there defense to scratch. Declawing involves removing the first cm of toe on the foot to prevent to nail from regrowing. Imagine taking your own finger and taking off the first part to your knuckle.
When the cat ever escapes and needs to defend themselves they truly can't because they don't have nails to defend themselves. Cats are not the type to bite first. Biting shows there head which makes them more vulnerable than scratching.
Declawing removes the whole claws which also prevents them from climbing effectively. It's a very painful practice usually done just to take away the ability to scratch things.
@Pate Editz Declaw is torture, It is a reason why in many countries in europe it is forbidden by law and count as animal cruelty!" And I would never ever do it to a animal. Scratchtree is enough and if you are afraid to be scratched then play not with your hands but with toys, simple as that!

Cats like running water because it's more likely to be clean! Try giving her a cat drinking fountain, they cycle the water and cats are more likely to drink from it.
This is especially important because you feed her dry food!
The problem with this is that koda will be all over it 😂

Helpful tips:
Crate & Barrel "working glasses" make the best cat water glass. They are a very heavy sturdy glass 😉
Washing Bella:
Place a small clean bucket of warm water with a hand towel in it next to the sink. Place a small non- breakable bowl with a wash cloth lathered with cat shampooed next to buket. Place a towel in the sink, place Bella in the sink on the towel. Place hand towel from the bucket of water on Bella to get her wet. Next wash Bella with shampooed wash rag. Rinse her with re soaked hand towel or bucket water. Dry her off then fancy feast or treats. Speed and efficiency are the key 👍

When you put her in the water, hold her by "scruffing" her. That means hold her by the skin or scruff on the back of the neck. That is what a momma cat does when they carry their babies. They instinctively go limp and relax. You guys are so good to get. I had one cat that lived to almost 20
This is a good way of washing your cat, but you also need to make sure to not hold the scruff too tight because theres a lot of nerves and it can cause nerve damage of done too forcefully. Also, make sure to give them a lot of love afterwords so they wont be too resilient to you, or get a fear of water.

if you can train them to feel relaxed even when no holding the scruff is better. my cat will immediately calm down when I simply press my thumb and index finger lightly against her back in about the same spot. a nice easy non verbal way of letting her know that she is safe.
My cat lived to 20 years + 2 months. She was in great health until the last few months. It's hard to lose a pet you've had that long.
it will only hurt them if they are frightened and would cause owners to get badly scratched. not a good idea when introducing something new. they can still move if they are so inclined.
Advice to bathe a cat: (2 person job usually) fill tub with reasonable amount of water, wear protective gloves (from scratches), and just use a cup to soak cat, then rub soap on cat while the cat is squirming, once you get all the soap on cat (rubbed into fur), use cup to get bath water to rinse cat off. Have a towel ready to dry bathroom, but you have to release the cat in the bathroom so they can try to dry themselves. Help them out with a towel. Then remove the protective gloves.
(Advice from a person who owns many cats).

Also, P.S. a lot of cars won't get used of baths no matter how early you start. You just have to kinda have to do it, get it done. The quicker you bathe them, the quicker the opportunity for them to scratch you will be less. When they meow, just try to push through til they are done cause even though they may hate you for that small amount of time, they will be grateful and forget that you gave them a bath. So good luck.

Small rubber mats with suction cups on the bottom to anchor them securely. I think Rubbermaid makes them. We used a bathtub mat, trimmed in two pieces to size for our asymmetrical sink basins (wash and rinse). Our cat placed his paws on the edge of the sink a few times, as though he were thinking of leaving; but no frantic "claws-splayed-out-in-search-of-human-flesh" desperation--and that was the first time he'd ever been bathed.

I had to bathe a cat that I hadn't trained to it because she got asphalt sealer on herself after getting to of the yard. I drew a sink full of warm water and dipped her in until I could soap her up and the rinse her again. Couldn't let her eat sealer!
Yeah that is right,but licking themselves won't make them clean completely... So we have to bathe them in order to clean them fully as well as to make them get rid of allergies and other stuff just like tmartn said

They’re doing it to start getting the kitten adjusted to taking a bath cuz like he said if they wait till she’s older and one day give her a bath cuz she’s dirty and she claws them up it’s not as bad just getting her used to it.
Had cats for 30 years now and never bathe them. My cutrrent cat protests strongly when I dry him when he comes in from the rain (he loves the rain!)/

If you decide to take them a bath pull back there neck to make them calmer. It won’t harm them all mama cats hold them by it so it’s absolutely harmless. 🐱👍
I tried this on my cat and friend’s cats and it worked every time no trauma:
fill the bathtub with water high enough to cover the height of her back so she has to walk only head and a little shoulders showing, no need to hold the cat down or it will scratch you first time or jump off you out of the tub, just put her quickly(not throwing). they start to walk around slowly or some just stand and in a minute you can touch her and wash right in water(soap the water) or next and next time you lower the water so the back is showing you can wash her more easily.
P.s.: my cat was a monster against water. she would leave you bloody head to toe, even tried special bath bags, tying her feet together, tying in towels.
My cat cried bloody murder first few times but didn’t move and I could wash she didn’t scratch me at all even when tried to hold on to my hand underwater.

Yulia S I doubt this would work with my cat since even though I was holding him and no where near putting him in the kiddie pool since I went to talk to my grandmother and little sister who were playing in the kiddie pool with probably less that a foot of water in it he was scared to death of it so I think the only way my boy’s going to get use to water is with treats and possibly a blindfold since it’s certainly the sight of water that scares him but I honestly have no clue since I haven’t need to bathe him yet
As a cat owner of 3 years now, my siamese boy loves water, buuuuuuut my Russian blue mix hates it. All cats are indeed different and there's even one breed of domesticated cat who is born to swim in water. Cool.
What I do for her is simply get her damp just enough then shampoo her then gently rinse. I use a cup to gently pour the water down her back. She fights and yells but that's part of it. I'd highly recommend clipping Bellatrix's claws beforehand so you don't get as bloodied up.

Mina Dragon it’s so funny. This one time I was watching tv and had ate some wings. I felt the weight on my plate get slightly lighter and I looked down. She grabbed a chicken wing bone and was trying to sneak off with it. I was like, wtf! Get back here! You should have seen how disappointed she was that she got caught. She dropped it at my feet and sulked off
After she had a bath and her hair was all spiked up she actually looks like Black Lightning

Tip if you want your cat or kitten to drink more water buy a clear water bowl and put some rocks on the bottom and they will think it’s like a river and they will drink more water. Helped with my cats 🐈

Try putting Bella into the sink with no water then make her comfortable with it like playing with toys or giving treats to her. Maybe that will calm her down a little so that she doesn’t freak out when she gets in the sink
I'm sure it's already been said but cats do not need to be bathed except in specific circumstances. I've had multiple cats all of my life (and I'm much older than you are) and I've only bathed a cat 2 times in my life. Once because the cat I adopted was literally crawling in fleas and I had to give him a flea bath immediately and the second time because I had an elderly cat and he could not properly groom himself anymore.

The reason that cats like running water is because of instinct. Wild cats that live in the wild know that running water usually means it’s more fresh. That’s why little bella likes running water and the sound because hse knows that it’s fresh drinking water.

I thought it was always frowned upon to bathe your cat, since they “clean themselves”. But only in rare cases if your cat gets into something or has fleas should you give them a bath. But I haven’t had a cat since I was 12 so lol 🤷🏻♀️
No in fact even if they dont get in any thing dirty u should give them a bath every now and then. Saliva trapped between the skin and fur can cause allergies.
