  • Changing the input shaft and output shaft fluid seals on my Lexus/Toyota A650E automatic transmission on my IS300. This should be the same process for many automatic transmissions. This transmission is used in some late 1990s to mid 2000s RWD Lexus and Toyota cars (IS, GS, LS400, SC430 etc).

    The screw method is fine with some additions: always use drill aid to prevent drilling too deep. Drill horizontally or tilt the tranny downward to prevent metal particles falling into the tranny. Very carefully clean the pocket of the seal after drilling to prevent the metal particles fall into the tranny. Invest into a slide hammer tool, it is cheap. Use a wide washer with the screw and use the hammer's U shape adapter by hooking behind the washer. Very easy to remove the seal with two or three sliding movements. One more suggestion: always try the seal on the converter shaft before place the seal into its place. If it find a little bit loose than better to buy an another seal by other producers. Lightly lube the shaft of the converter with trans oil before put the converter back. Pay extra attention to the details because if the seal fails and leaking than you have to start over. Learn from others mistakes, I have to start over because I was lazy.

    I drilled out the holes on the output shaft trying to use the screw technique i highly recommend if you do it , do it at 12 o clock and 6 o clock so you avoid the holes also a heat gun to it before you try pulling it out helps a lot . Great vid !

    • @TunerwithKids
      @TunerwithKids  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man, I didn’t think of heat gun. It probably would have melted it right off.

    • @DaBEAR702
      @DaBEAR702 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn’t need a lot of heat it’s all aluminum it expands quickly with the heat gun a seals are built to withstand head it won’t affect much

    I did a transmission replacement on my gs300 my question is does it matter how the dove shaft is bolted to the transmission in a specific order because I couldn’t mark up which bolts went where because it was a completely different transmission goin in

    Do I need any specialized tools for this? Looking to replace these on a 2002 4runner

    • @TunerwithKids
      @TunerwithKids  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really once you have the transmission out. The shaft seals are in there pretty good so it takes work. Make sure new on is flush and flat on the face.

    Hello. Do you know the torque specs for the 7 bolts of 14mm we can see a 8:38 on your video? Thank you :-)

    • @TunerwithKids
      @TunerwithKids  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No idea. That’s the pump housing. Most 14mm are like 35ft-lbs for Toyota.

    I have an a650e trans and the bell housing pours out all the fluid after replacing the seal 2 times and I'm guessing its the front pump bushing to install that I would need new gasket and o rings for the front pump ? Please help

    • @TunerwithKids
      @TunerwithKids  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the pump is leaking, the shaft seal won’t do much to stop it.

    I just replaced my transmission and as soon as I started my car all the tranny fluids started pouring out of the bottom of the bell housing do u know what would cause that to happen

    • @TunerwithKids
      @TunerwithKids  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like bad pump inside tranny or issue with torque converter. The input seal only prevents minor fluid splash but major fluid leaks sounds like pump issue.

    • @notjustfashionbutalifestyl6244
      @notjustfashionbutalifestyl6244 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was a bad seal that cause the problem replaced the trans seal and now no leaks

    Should have replaced the bushing too while doing the tail shaft seal

    • @TunerwithKids
      @TunerwithKids  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn’t planning on keeping this tranny long term since I’m collecting parts for manual swap. Since these seals were less than $10 for the set, I decided to to replace to learn. But yea if you are keeping the setup, the rear rubber mount bushings should be replaced.
