If you are working in an environment where your management already had no faith in you when you were 12:6:1 and forced out multiple long term players through contract subversion. Then that’s not exactly a good environment for a team to flourish in. The team was doomed the second the leak came out about Trouba and Krieder, they were literally 12:6:1 when that happened.
They were not playing well at that point either or the entire year. Rangers fans have said all year that this team has not looked good and were schedule merchants by beating up on bad teams at that point. And they were 100% right and the team imploded once they couldn't beat up on the Red Wings, Habs, and Ducks.
Totally disagree. The players don’t need to play better until change is made at the top. They don’t play well, Drury is going to lose every trade/move he makes until he is fired. If they start playing better, that emboldens the GM into thinking the tactics he is using is working. The issue is the GM, it is up to the GMs boss to make the difficult move and replace him to change the morale.
I think the point was not so much about Drury as about if the players want to remain on the Rangers’ roster they have to start winning. Because nibbling around the edges, like maybe a Kakko trade, isn’t going to make an impact. Drury is going to have to move someone (else) who wants to stay to make an impact. So, if the big guys on the team want to stay in New York, then they need to start winning now, and then they can make with the knives-in-Drury’s-back later.
At this point, IMO, they do not want to be Rangers if Drury is still in charge. They'd rather go to an organization that treats their players with respect. Why reward Drury for his actions by playing better? They all want to win, they just don't want to win for Drury.
@@deltagolavista1I think the players are being assholes. This is the issue. 49% of all coaches who win the Jack Adams are fired within 3 years after. Is this because they suddenly become terrible coaches? No. It’s because when you are one of the best teams in the league all the other teams study up on you far more than any other teams and learn how to play against you. As a Rangers fan, I would rather play a whole year with just the Hartford team and keep Drury then cowtow to these soft players, you’ve shown me you have no ability to handle adversity and that’s all what the playoffs are
I think that one of the biggest problems was that, even given their numbers were decent last year, it was obvious that there was going to have to be some of the younger players that'd be going up in the lineup, as Mika Zibanejad & Chris Kreider would start to regress, etc., but as you said, LaF, Kakko & so many future players, that so many Rangers Fans criticized David Quinn for not playing the young guys (Quinn should get an apology), for not playing the young players, is starting to show that he had it right (that their no more than very decent 3rd Line Players, as they were in The 2022 year). Now, with The Top 6 not playing well, it's got to be certain that trades, as you said, have to be made. Panarin & Kreider should be the players that should be kept & built around. Let me know what you think
During the original six era, from 1942 to 1967, the league had a rule that gave each team exclusive rights to negotiate contracts with promising local players within 50 miles of its home ice. Since the Toronto and the Montreal metropolitan areas contained abundant ice hockey prospects, that put them at a major recruiting advantage over Boston, New York, and Chicago, which had very few such prospects in their territories.
Awful? Disappointing sure, but awful is a major exaggeration. They are still in the playoff picture year after year. They've had several deep playoff runs in the past decade. Literally just won the presidents trophy, were in the final 4. That's not awful. Several great teams compete for a cup every year, only one can win. The Rangers just fail to get over that final hump, that doesn't make them awful though. Winning the cup involves a lot of luck, and the Rangers have been anything but lucky. Obviously it mostly involves having a team built to win the cup, but you can't control injuries or bad bounces. Nonetheless, the Rangers unprecedented performance this season is just giving you an excuse to call them a terrible franchise.
So maybe the players decided to tank it to get Drury fired and Kakko did not go along and keeps trying so play well and score so the players asked the coach to healthy scratch Kakko?
The Rangers slogan was not no quit in New York That's what it was the last 2 years. This year it was it takes everyone. And they've obviously not shown that because not everyone's playing
I would take Kappo Kakko on the Washington Capitals in a heartbeat. He'd play for a players coach under Carberry. He'd have WAY less pressure playing alongside guys like Ovi Wilson Carlson and Dubois. He'd have a similar situation as Dubois. And, He'd be a huge upgrade to their middle six fore power over an undercooked Lapierre/Miroshnichenko or a no longer with it Milano.
Great take on The Rangers, guys. I don't know what they're doing & what the problem is with them. I don't know what they can do to fix it, but for to continue to make changes. I'm seeing talk of Chris Kreider as A Trade, which I have no idea why, since, even when he's not doing well, he's putting up a decent amount of goals. Let me know what you think
It would be pretty funny if this players-only meeting never really happened and Drury just had an underling get this rumor out there so that fans would turn on the players.
The Rangers are not bad what they have done for the last month or so is pull a MUTINY or Strike on management. They play great for a period or two then they start playing the " I DON'T CARE GAME". This problem began since the rumor of Trouba being traded to now. I'm sure there would have been a better way to handle this but someone probably didn't want give in. As for Panarin i really don't think he is hurt i feel he is fed up with the crap that's going so he prefers to sit out the net couple of games.
Chris Drury might want to get something for Igor Shesterkin before the new contract kicks in, especially if he continues to play bad. Let me know what you think.
The Rangers are losing because Drury built this team with too many of the same type of players. He built a team of finesse skaters and not those that can win the battles in the corners, along the boards and in front of the net. The defense are all puck movers lacking grit. They always go in deep and get trapped.
Self inflicted psychological issues, it's hockey psychology, only it's the, "can we win mentality" instead of, We will win, but the bottom line is, whoever works harder, usually wins, they have to bust their asses, the W:s will come.
I also sense that the team isn't behind Igor anymore. Because of him money claims these moves where made. So I feel that they kinda hold a grudge on him too. But here is the lack of looking in the mirror affects, the reasons he could command such a payout is the lack of effort in front of him. So I suspect that is the core issue. They looking for someone to blame, but they don’t want to look into the mirror doing it.
This team is too soft and collapsing because a few players got traded proves it. The core showed zero effort when they got exposed by Florida in the playoffs. They need to get rid of DJ Zibanejad at least.
They literally got rid of that slogan before this season started. If anything it worked well for them. Now it's "It Takes Everyone" which is incredibly vague, as it is indeed taking everyone to be this terrible.
They quit on the fans, in Sam Rosen's final season. That's all that matters. Figure out who the culprits are and waive them. You can leave cancers like that in the lockeroom. It took years to cleanse that country club culture from the room. You're gong to look up and see dark ages 2.0 with a team full of Valeri Kamensky's, Sylvain Lefebvre's and Marcel Hossa''s
Kreider and Mika are the problems. I dont know why yall are talking like Kreider is one of the best Rangers of all time. Here are the names actually on that list: Lundqvist,Messier, Leetch, Panarin, McDonough, Gilbert, Ratelle, Fox, Brad Park, Debatably Richter. Etc. Yall said his playoff totals. Almost all his scoring comes in the first two rounds and on the PP.
OK so their made a Drury...dick to Goodrow, dick to Trouba (twice)....I get it. But does that mean they're tanking to get him fired? Does that mean they're softer than bread pudding?
I cant stand Kakko however he isnt the reason they stink. I dont think hes a star nor a potential star but hes a serviceable 3rd line player. Mika looks like a shell of the guy that scored over 40 goals and almost 100 points two years ago. He leads the league in broken sticks and shots that miss the net! The Rangers defense cannot make a first pass period. They are turnoverkings and they play the whole game in thier own end. This team is souless and gutless, not fight in this team at all.
Please remind the current roster that the NHL has a hard salary cap and if they don’t want roster changes then they should all forego the salary raises that come every offseason. They all want more money and no roster moves like Goodrow getting sent out. A hard cap doesn’t allow for that so their argument holds no water.
Must be something in this new york food or water. The sabres the rangers and islanders wtf. They all might have the S.A.D. syndrome. Look it up... lol🎉🎉🎉😂 my sabres suck!
I'm pretty sure reason why Kakko was scratched is because he's going to get traded. He's just another draft bust. Same as Kratsov or Lias Andersson. waste of pick. Maybe Rangers could get 5th or 6th rounder back from him.
You clearly don't watch the game or at least you don't pay attention well. While Kakko hasn't had a breakout year yet, he has been instrumental in getting Cuylle and Chytil to the production they're getting, and he is an excellent playmaker who continues to get scapegoated by this fanbase when he isn't being given the opportunities to develop.
bad take by people who clearly dont watch the rangers. this core is mopey, overrated and entitled. we DONT care what this group of players thinks or feels at this point. they're immature, poorly-lead children and it starts with the 'leadership'. trouba was a LARP of a captain who NEVER should have gotten a letter. he's not a leader, he's a spoiled, passive aggressive brat and had to go. we're GLAD HES GONE... and he clearly rubbed off on this team - look at mopey, low-T zibanejad and now this glorified third liner, kakko, mouthing off. KAKKO HAS GOTTEN HIS OPPORTUNITIES, AND HE EVEN SAID IT DURING HIS EXIT INTERVIEWS - GO WATCH THEM AGAIN. HE CANT PRODUCE, PERIOD. he's a freaking 2 OA who tops out as a DECENT third liner... and now we're saying he needs more opportunity??? I cant wait to revisit this crap when kakko is finally traded and his new team realizes he's a slow, passive scandinavian and we can stop this fcking madness about him.

This team is too soft and collapsing because a few players got traded proves it. The core showed zero effort when they got exposed by Florida in the playoffs. They need to get rid of DJ Zibanejad at least.
No quit in Ny has been around for 3+ years now 😅🤣😂
They literally got rid of that slogan before this season started. If anything it worked well for them. Now it's "It Takes Everyone" which is incredibly vague, as it is indeed taking everyone to be this terrible.
Whats wrong with Chris Drury? Why have people turned on him?
Big part of it is bc the two guys in the thumbnail aren’t good and set a horrible example for the rest of the team
Opinions from two guys that don't actually follow the Rangers.
Here are the names actually on that list:
Lundqvist,Messier, Leetch, Panarin, McDonough, Gilbert, Ratelle, Fox, Brad Park, Debatably Richter. Etc. Yall said his playoff totals. Almost all his scoring comes in the first two rounds and on the PP.
Lindgren is THE problem on defense as well as Miller
Kreider is having a terrible year. And besides net-front deflections, and occasional breakout, he is not that good.
Trade kakko to STL
Their overpaid goalie as done nothing since he got that contracy
Trade Kakko to Blackhawks
The Rangers are 3rd from bottom in the Metropolitan, and they're still the best team in New York state 🤣
I still wouldn't write them off. They could just click and get back to destroying the league.
Once a team enters an extended period of disfunction and losing, it's difficult to get out of it.
@humanbeing2420 agreed, but I ain't gunna nickel and dime these guys. There's always that potential to be dangerous
Are we forgetting about the Oilers last season?
@Polish_Pierogi516 nope. Subject is about the Rangers.
Rags are cooked
bad take by people who clearly dont watch the rangers. this core is mopey, overrated and entitled. we DONT care what this group of players thinks or feels at this point. they're immature, poorly-lead children and it starts with the 'leadership'. trouba was a LARP of a captain who NEVER should have gotten a letter. he's not a leader, he's a spoiled, passive aggressive brat and had to go. we're GLAD HES GONE... and he clearly rubbed off on this team - look at mopey, low-T zibanejad and now this glorified third liner, kakko, mouthing off.
They are a very lazy team. The coach needs to go asap
