In 2017, 11.2 million tons of textile waste ended up in landfills & the average American generates about 80 pounds of textile waste in a year. Textiles take 200+ YEARS to decompose and as they do so, their negative impact on the environment is horrible. Why do I mention this? As much as it might be more convenient to use fabric, I’m a huggggge advocate for upcycling & refashioning what we already have in our closets or what we buy from the thrift stores that mostly sell donated items - it’s just what I believe in. So yeah, occasionally I’ll use a bedsheet if I happen to stumble across one in my projects, but until thrift stores start selling fabrics, my projects using newly bought fabric will be limited. With that said, an amazing DIYer - Micarah Tewers makes amazing projects from fabrics and I’m sure there’s plenty of people out there I don’t know about, you do your research and see who you like :)
