    i made this-its great! bit of troubleshooting for anyone else, i found that to get the shirring done enough, i needed to use a really tight bobbin tension! maybe obvious but took me a while to work out!

    • @TheEssentialsClub
      @TheEssentialsClub  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh no!! That's so annoying. There's a few variables like the type of fabric and how you wound the shirring thread onto the bobbin that might be why it's not working. Hard to give the right advice without seeing/knowing what went on during the process. Hopefully it works out for you and sorry I couldn't directly help!!! x x

    • @janabogi
      @janabogi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I hope I can help. So the thread on the top of the machine is regular and the one that's in the bobbin is the elastic one.

    This is a great tutorial however i have tried to do this before and noticed that the shirred thread was to thick to fit on my sewing needle so what needle did you use? Thanks

    • @TheEssentialsClub
      @TheEssentialsClub  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The top thread one the machine (which goes through the needle) remains normal and the shirred thread just goes in the bobbin section so doesn't need to go through the needle :)
      Hope that helps x

    • @CherieGerry
      @CherieGerry 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You only use elastic thread on the bobbin. The top is your regular thread. It works great.

    • @TheEssentialsClub

    So u dont stretch the garter thread when putting it in bobbin?

    • @TheEssentialsClub
      @TheEssentialsClub  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep! That's why it's best to thread it by hand so you can control not stretching the elastic shirring thread as you wrap it onto the bobbin. Hope that helps!

  • @teerkashabaskaran19
    @teerkashabaskaran19 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How much fabric did you use approximately? How much should I buy?

    • @TheEssentialsClub
      @TheEssentialsClub  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you follow the blog link in the video description that outlines all the essentials to make this including fabric amount. I'd suggest measuring how long you want the final piece to be and doubling that for the length off the fabric roll (with a tad extra for seam allowance). Eg if you want the final length to be 12inches get 26 inches off the roll. x

    I didn't understand how she put the straps... Can someone explain me?

    • @TheEssentialsClub
      @TheEssentialsClub  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I pinned them in place on the inside of the top seams and then sewed across where the straps overlap on the main panel.
      I am working on a new and improved version of this tutorial with all the different camera angles and better outlined steps so hopefully that will help!
      Also the steps are written out here so might make a bit more sense maybe - theessentialsclub.com/blog-posts/shirred-crop

    Will this not work w regular thread? I cant. Rlly afford any elastc thread

    • @TheEssentialsClub
      @TheEssentialsClub  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately it needs to be an elastic thread to make sure it can fit tight but slip on still. The only other way to get the gathered effect would be to gather the normal thread but it wouldn't be as simple to get on unless you added a zip which doesn't really help with cost. I'm sorry I couldn't help with an alternative!

    help, mine just looks like a bunch of straight stitches, and there is no scrunch

    • @TheEssentialsClub
      @TheEssentialsClub  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no! It's hard to know what went wrong without seeing the process of you making it. A couple of questions, did you use Shirring thread in the bobbin and if so was it loosely wound on? And second if you did do those then sometimes it might be the type of material that doesn't cooperate when trying to shirr. Sorry I wasn't much direct help but hopefully that helps point you in the right direction for evolving next time. x

    • @glamorousalivia
      @glamorousalivia 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Essentials Club thank you! I was using shirring thread. I think I wound it around the bobbin nicely! I used a lighter cotton fabric that wasn’t stretchy.

    • @nt8103
      @nt8103 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@glamorousalivia is your stitch length set to the longest stitch? mine is set to 4 :) at first I had it set to 2 and it was too short which wasn't making the material gather at all!
