It can be a pain when it acts up. The lifters are the weak point in the AFM system where they can seize in the collapsed position causing rough running and misfires in the affected cylinder. Your buddy was right that the AFM can be disabled by a tune so it runs just as a V8. Got a 2008 Silverado with AFM issues. Planning an AFM delete which involves new cam, lifters, lifter guides, valley cover and associated parts.
p0521 on those truck=engine unless the oil pressue gauge is completely inop, if the pressue is marginal like under 20 psi at hot idle then the cam bearings are probably wiped out
Your comment on the paint reminds me of the 2002 Jetta Wagon I bought for $700 a couple years ago. Manual trans, which was cool, but I believe someone took an ice scraper to every panel of the car trying to remove snow 😭
I have 08 Silverado and let me tell ya good luck getting to that oil pressure. If its like mine its probably at back of motor . Your gonna need long extension and i believe its 17mm deep socket. After removing sensor, theirs a oil screen in there as well. Check it as well if it needs cleaning
Also if can use swivel adapter for your socket . And you dont have to remove the intake manifold like some youtube videos say you do . All i did once i got cover off top of motor and using things i mentioned it worked out
Hoping that sensor is the problem. I had a 2013 Silverado and put 3 oil pressure sensor in within a couple months and code continued to show up. Looked into it and it ended up being an oil pan pick up tube o-ring was bad.
I made a comment a little.bit ago saying it could be just the torque converter shudder that these chevys have my brother had a 2012 and had the same problem.
If the radios not working it's the speakers. They corrode and die. Mine did. And my window switches corroded and didn't work and I took the apart and cleaned the contacts for zero dollars and fixed that issue.
My dad has a 2009 RCSB, and I can tell you that those trucks DO have the PWM controlled alternator otherwise we wouldn’t have gotten 10 YEARS out of the factory battery!
Hated the interior of that platform but loved the looks. Everything on that chassis was built to fail and fail hard. The door handles are my biggest annoyance. The grab handles break easily but yet you can't replace just that section...you have to replace the whole door card which is about 300-500 new.
I borrowed a 2013 from the in laws for about 2 months because they wanted to put miles on it before taking a trip to Florida. I put 1,300 miles on it and within the first 400 the front diff broke, within 500 they had to yank the dash out and put cushions in that weren't installed AND found a melted blower motor harness. Within 1,000 miles the transmission lever seized and then at 1,200 miles the driver side door handle broke. Then at 4,000 the passenger side broke. Now the truck has 89,000 miles and the engine had to be rebuilt because the oil pressure failed and sent incorrect readings to the dash and never threw a code...then the oil pump failed and grenaded the engine. Then ALL the door handles broke...the truck has a random issue where the window on the passenger side front will roll down itself and stay down. The rear axle had to be rebuilt and...last but not least. The brake controller failed and locked the brakes up on a utility trailer at 30mph.
My mustang kinda did what you said and it was the torque converter not wanting to lock up But it wasn't as bad as that Maybe when it had the transmission rebuilt the rebuilder didn't replace the torque converter I could be completely wrong though
these gen of silverados had a problem with rust, specifcally on the rear fenders. My father has owned his for close to a decade and he has had work done to those fenders i believe twice now.
My Sierra has done the exact same thing with the tach for the past 50,000 miles or so. I’m not sure what causes it but it’s not throwing any codes and runs fine other than that so who knows
Just outside Wichita is where my old Ply Reliant K got NAILED by a Deer on my way to San Antonio for military training. Fortunately i was stopping in Wichita to visit a friend. Caved in the Passenger Front door.
my brother had a 2012 silverado and it had the torque converter shudder and it pretty much did the same thing as your truck is doing it was common on these trucks so you may not need a new transmission i would have gone to a transmission shop and had them diagnose it but you said that you had a transmission already on the way.
If the trans isn't downshifting on the highway and the tach is bouncing upward, the issue is in the converter clutch. Probably a worn bore in the valve body. The TCC circuits in GM automatics are classic Rube Goldberg - it's miracle if the d@mn thing ever locks up.

Glad to see ya back to flipping cars. It's really enjoyable watching you all figure it out and just fix it (though another Orbeez video would not be frowned upon).
I might have already bought headlights, found the body parts, and the steering wheel controls sound kinda fun. 😂
@@WatchJRGo the steering wheel controls could be a good way to bring new people to the channel, I notice silverado mod videos tend to get a lot of views. Just a thought.
Finally! so good to see go to Gabe..
I think it was a good buy. I saw the Viper truck in the reflection at around 8:00. I remember in your LS Fest video when you saw a Dodge that you said you didn't have any Mopar products? I was afraid you had already sold the Viper truck. Guess not. Anyway it will be interesting to see what this Silverado goes for after you get it up to snuff.
I used to have a 2006 Silverado. Best truck I ever owned. And prob the longest I ever owned any vehicle.
I think this (sony rx) is better than your usual night shots. Which are usually too dark with really low visibility.
Another Gabe cameo. HEY THERE GABE
How bad is the AFM on these engines? My buddy told me you could flash them to make it just a normal v8 again
@@killerdoxen Thanks man!
You are so lucky you made it there in chevy cruze, I hope you have a new turbo in the trunk to get you home.
p0521 on those truck=engine unless the oil pressue gauge is completely inop, if the pressue is marginal like under 20 psi at hot idle then the cam bearings are probably wiped out
This thing is holding about 25psi fully up to temp at idle... and who knows when the last oil change was 🍻
Great to See Gabe . He’s the Robin to Batman .
Sounds like a fluid issue for the trans. Either bad filter or low fluid?
I made a comment a little.bit ago saying it could be just the torque converter shudder that these chevys have my brother had a 2012 and had the same problem.
make sure you check the transmition control module it can cause crazy things to happen
If the radios not working it's the speakers. They corrode and die. Mine did. And my window switches corroded and didn't work and I took the apart and cleaned the contacts for zero dollars and fixed that issue.
should try a new transmission valve assembly and aolenoids
My mustang kinda did what you said and it was the torque converter not wanting to lock up
But it wasn't as bad as that
Maybe when it had the transmission rebuilt the rebuilder didn't replace the torque converter
I could be completely wrong though
these gen of silverados had a problem with rust, specifcally on the rear fenders. My father has owned his for close to a decade and he has had work done to those fenders i believe twice now.
My Sierra has done the exact same thing with the tach for the past 50,000 miles or so. I’m not sure what causes it but it’s not throwing any codes and runs fine other than that so who knows
The oil pressure switch is a b!tch to get to. I was almost ready to pull the intake on mine. Keep up the good work JR.
That viper truck looks pretty cool orange at 7:39
I’m just here for Gabe
Bring back Gabe on your next project!
Maybe Gabe can get that 73 Opel going?
The video quality reminds me of some old school streetfire vids lol
Just outside Wichita is where my old Ply Reliant K got NAILED by a Deer on my way to San Antonio for military training. Fortunately i was stopping in Wichita to visit a friend. Caved in the Passenger Front door.
my brother had a 2012 silverado and it had the torque converter shudder and it pretty much did the same thing as your truck is doing it was common on these trucks so you may not need a new transmission i would have gone to a transmission shop and had them diagnose it but you said that you had a transmission already on the way.
Always looking forward to these truck videos
"Broken and wrecked" sounds like me rn
Same here!
Hey, the viper truck @ 7:30. Rumor was it was sold.
My dad has a 2009, hopefully I get it, but it has the 5.3 with a 4 speed, with less than 90k on it, they are good trucks. If they are kept care of.
If the trans isn't downshifting on the highway and the tach is bouncing upward, the issue is in the converter clutch. Probably a worn bore in the valve body. The TCC circuits in GM automatics are classic Rube Goldberg - it's miracle if the d@mn thing ever locks up.
It's pretty wild that a 10 year old vehicle could be so fucked up..
Those transmissions are expensive.
You're not kidding 💸
Ebay or car-part.com
@@WatchJRGo Used to work for a big auto parts supplier. Not only are they not cheap used. it seems like rebuilt ones have a REALLY high failure rate. Every time I sold one I would be like " oh goddamit here we go "
@@WatchJRGo So if you can find a low milage used transmission its probably better than rebuilt. We sold one from a very respected rebuilder and it crapped out in less than 3500 miles and the shop that did the swap wasn't exactly happy
I dunno about the 6 speeds. But 4l60s are a dime a dozen around here. Literally 200-250$ used and 400-600$ rebuilt. 900$ for a race prepped 4l60
I Got a 2011. Love those trucks
0:38 the deer hit the truck, crazy, lol, cheers!
Oh deer

I'm entirely convinced that there is no good vlogging cameras in existence.
Tim Tracker uses a good one.
gotta go into the settings. the shutter speed keeps slowing down to compensate for the lowlight
You can remote start a mopar with the check engine light on 😉🤭
That’s because the feature would be useless otherwise. 😁
