This tutorial will explain how to perform a video bypass for the Pioneer App Radio. This bypass will enable video and GPS control while the vehicle is in motion. This tutorial is recommended for off-road vehicles only. The relay in this video is a standard 12volt "car alarm" type relay. below are the pin connections for the relay.
Relay pins
85 - blue w/ white stripe (From Radio)
86 and 87 - ground (connect to black wire on the radio harness)
30 - green w/ white stripe (From Radio) - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Thanks was looking for this info. All the others that explained this had low audio, rambled on, interspersed non-relevant info and in one case had their phone turned the wrong way(thus making the visual portion visually UN-interpretable. Yours on the other hand was clear, concise, and included the info written down for good measure.
What a clear concise video explaining something in great detail but easy to understand. A+ and I immediately subscribed😀😀😁
You're the only damn person to explain that it needs to be grounded AFTER the radio turns on. Thank you !!!! This makes so much more sense now. I'm going from a JVC to pioneer so you can imagine how surprised I was when I grounded the wire out and it still didn't work... do you know if this can be tied into my on star harness that my truck doesn't have?
Thanks alot for the info! i have to try this tonight, miss the good old days i just need to ground the thing.
Great thanks, best video on this, just straight to the point, had one of these relays lying around, did the trick, thanks!
Thanks man that was great my stereo got delayed until mondays delivery but i will definitely get that relay switch thanks again..
Awesome!!! Thank you for this video. It was very helpful.
Thanks for stepping out, and stepping up to help others in this industry. To provide an elementary tutorial, that was simple and basic enough. Thanks. Sponge Bob is every kids hero! and connect that to headrest video, so you can monitor conversations on the video to help answer your kids questions. Good stuff . . .
Nice one for the video buddy, a simple video with the one sentence that made it all make sense, The radio turns on first, then the parking brake. App Radio sucessfully bypassed
Thanks Douglass. I'm probably going to buy myself this stereo for my birthday.
Yup works like a charm even on 2019 Pioneer decks
Thank you so much. You're very helpful.
is this going to work on my sph-da210 appradio 3?
Love the shows and all the info vids helps with installs!!! =D
Great Video. Please make more videos like this. Keep up the great work.
Dope shirt!!! Thanks for the video
Pioneer AVH 3400BH - worked! Not using an Iphone so don't have an updated app. But this worked great. Thanks.
Thank you!!!!!! This vid really helped.
This was helpful thank you.
Thank you bud! It works!
awesome diy video man, a def need to know
Here from Holland.....works fine, thanks
Thanks sound man. Got it to work on a pioneer avh 500ex and avh 280 bt. I followed instructions as he posted. I got sound but no video because relay turns on before radio . So this is how I got it to work. First turn on car and radio. Second while car is running just turn radio off and on once . Now you can put your dvd and watch movie. No extra switches or nothing. Now I order a double bypass just to see if eliminates the second step. The second step wasn't a big deal for me cause I really don't watch DVDs that often. Hope I was able to help someone else. I'm not a tech or expert so I don't know what other radio it will work with or any other crazy questions just a guy experimenting like everyone else lol.
thanks dude, too easy.
TUDO BEM BRASILIA!!!!! Very cool!
hell yea very informative thanks brotha! Hey question for you, I got a 1999 lexus gs300, you have any advice on how to bypass the stock amp? pretty confused with making this harness im told ive got to toss up with two Metra 87 toyota and up i believe it is, the metra 70-1761
thanks man awesome !!
Not sure what Armofgold85 is talking about. I just got this radio, installed it, and wired the relay just like the video said. The DVD feature is working even with parking break off, just like the video explained. Also there is a button at the bottom of the unit that allows you to shut the screen off if it is too bright. I got my unit for $220, and the relay was $10.00. Thanks for the great tutorial!
Great thanks. I have a question, why not connect the light green wire to ground directly? does it works if skip relay? thank you.
good job doug
works great. only problem is I got to cycle the key on off twice to get it to work but where does it works great. any suggestions on how can I get it where I don't have to cycle the key on off twice? I installed it in a 2003 Chevy trailblazer thanks for your time.
hello SoundMan thanks for video i have question i have iphone 5 cant e connecto in this radio with cable 30pins "iphone 4 /ipod" to 9pins "iphone 5"?
He said in the video you can't just ground because the radio has to see the ground after the radio starts. If you just ground it it would be grounded before the radio starts and the radio would recognize this and not work. With using the power antena to start the ground with the relay it wont start the ground till after the radio has turned on which is what the radio requires. Pretty much pioneer is trying to make it harder to bypass these. I'm no expert but I've been researching
Thank you
I just installed the SPH-100 and had to put in a manual switch to turn the ground on and off and back on then hit ok on the touch screen. Seems they put an extra safety feature to eliminate the use of relays?
Hey Doug i hate to break it to you, but I've ran into problems with using a relay on the App Radio. For some reason, pioneer got smart and want you to double pulse the parking brake. Which doesn't work very well with a single relay. Using a relay works only if the screen that displays "please engage the parking brake" is displayed, just like your video showed. If that screen isn't displayed when you turn the radio on, it will not recognize the relay's ground pulse.
bad ass bro, thank you
hey soundman, i have a avhx7500bt and a nexus 5 phone. i like to know what cable wires i need to mirror the phone to the radio. the phone has been rooted with appradio unchained installed.
I am going to be installing the new AVH-P2400BT in my car and I have a single pole single throw relay already. With that relay work or does it have to be a double throw even though you aren't using pin 87a?
will this work with pioneer Avh-x5550?
awsome vid man helps a shit load
this dude is awesome. haha
I just grounded my cable...and it worked...is it different on Europeen cars?...My car is a Saab
Can pin 86 get ground and then the relay be attached to ground, or does the ground from the deck need to go to pin 86 AND the ground on the wiring harness?
what about the new x2600bt it take and on off on signal in order to do this
is this the same bypass as avh4200 pioneer ? I bought the pioneer 8500 and was wondering would this same bypass work as well .
hi i would like to know how would this effect the backup camera? would this disable the reverse camera?
Gracias dude lol
Ps if you have the newest version use a manual switch so you can flip it a few times and it will work
tudo bem!!! gostei da camiseta.
hey i have a qustion about my set up.i just installed my sph-da210 and i have no audio.
@ thesteve713 I just put the relay in exactly as shown and it doesnt work so I'm guessing it needs a different relay for the "apply, release, reapply" update. ANybody have any suggestions? Doug?
Mine aren't the same colors. I have the ground wire, and the brake wire from my double din but I cant seem to find the (85) remote turn on wire for mine. But it does have a wire that says "ACC". Would that pretty much be the remote wire since it's the power?
Oh and how would I connect the ground to both 86 AND 87 with the same wire? Please help.
hello i bypassed my clarion radio it was working but when i powered my parking lights on. my vehicle lights fuses burnt all. any idea on that
Dude i did what u said it worked like a champ! BUT last week i SLAMMED on my brakes to avoid an accident and my radio sound(just the sound) shut off and now the sound shuts off every now and then should i swap out the relay for a new one??could that be the reason my sound is cutting out now????? please respond thanks man
i know you don't have time to answer everyone but no one has been able to tell me the following, I bought a pioneer dvd for my car (vw gti 04) and also an installation kit, the harness in the kit came with a "canbus" module I guess also called pac something, is that the same as the relay so I can play video while driving? not that I want to watch a movie while I drive but my wife does. Anyway, if you can let me know what the canbus module does I will appreciate it. Thanks for the video.
you can just ground the parking brake on kenwood, sony, and jvc radios. on the older model pioneers you can do this relay bypass but on the newer pioneers you have to add a switch because it needs to see a double pulse or on off and on again
I am just curious I tried to bypass my pioneer avh-x1500dvd and I tried the relay, it worked when I first did it, but than I shut off my car and when I went to turn it back on it did not work after that? Do you have any ideas of what is going on?
my relay is clicking to soon and radio wont recognize it because it turns on to fast..is there a way to delay the relay from clicking to soon ?
I just connected the appradio parking brake wire to ground and it always works.. why do you use the relay?
2 things:
1: Does this cause the "E-brake" dash light to come on?
2: Is this mod for the "Apply brake, dis-engage, apply brake" update?
What are your thoughts on this unit?
I had to install a switch also because relay would click on too soon or it needs to be set twice possibly....I would just like the simplicity of a relay but don't seem to work on my AVH-7500BT.
how do you play videos? iv done the bypass to get into apps but duno how u watch a video? what app do u use? how can u watch videos off your iphone?
cool!
I grounded the wire all I have to do is manually cut the head unit off then on again with source button works like a charm
can u use this for all kinds of radio
Thanks... :-)
Looking to get this HU. Does the relay method work or not?
I think the parking brake has to be set 3 times... lame.. But I also read on a forum that if you go to the pioneer website and download the European version update that it will eliminate the safety features.. Haven't tried it yet and I just sent my radio back to crutchfield for a warranty replacement. Waiting for new app radio to show up.
This is not working with the new update. In order to make it work u have to turn ignition off and back on real quick for the relay to click a second time. Is there anyway to trick it to click it on off and back on since that's what it requires?
can't you just ground the cable? so it is continu grounded? or will this not work?
can you use youtube on the appradio?
Hello Soundman I have this unit and I need it installed, could I get some info, on where to reach you.
damn, was so exited for this but now that its wired and not working i find that pioneers 2014s look for a "double pulse".... hrm i wonder if i can install two relays? lol
I did it the same way, you just have to put the stereo on tuner first and while it's on tuner instert the DVD. Works every time.
does this work for the new appradio 2
Can this work with app radio 2 im confused on what to do right now
@burnedguitar93:
What do you mean "doesn't work"? What happens?
Buy a $20 dollar one on ebay. They have them already wired and ready to install. As said it requires a double pulse so look for double pulse bypass on ebay and that will work. I've been looking at them but they won't work for my app radio 1 supposedly. Talked to several people that have these and they work great
"your shits bypassed"
hell yeah brah
Does this work with HBO GO app? Thanks.
I done that and I have to take one of the grounds off and put it back on for the picture to come on then u cut the radio off turn it back on and I have to do the same thing any suggestions
Same thing happened to me man..I hooked a interrupt switch to the parking break line and mounted it under the dash to manually break the connection(same as disconnecting the ground) It's just a little button that cost $2 and it disconnects and reconnect with one little push
It worked. But. When i turn the car on for first time after a while. It will not work. I have to turn the car off open the door , closed and turn the car on for second time. Any suggestion?
Does Doug's beard creep anyone else out? He should trade the ford for an ice cream van.
the new pioneer app radios and other dvd/cd players need to see a double pulse for ground so a normal relay bypass wont work. you need a switch or a module you can buy on amazon
Unfortunately the relay method is not working for my Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS, manuf 7/2013. Does anyone have any suggestions? The rest of the radio is working with the relay hooked up.
just use the - on the battery it works!
holy s#*$%.......i thought it would never work....thank you so much...hahahahah
@tigolbity200 Its actually pretty cheap, 300 or 400
What's wrong if I have sound but no video? It won't let me "Ok" the video feed cause it's saying the braking brake isn't set? I have the same radio Appradio 3?
It won't let you press ok if you don't have the relay or parking break on.
2:55 should answer all the unanswered questions
This was wrong when I tried to use it my self. The green brake wire is to 87,
the ground wire (from radio and car harness) to 85 and 30, and
the REMOTE turn on wire (blue/white)(p-cont on most pigtails) to 86. Hopefully this helps someone.
i liked your shirt but the city brasilia is not where the cristo redentor is i know cuz im brazilian
You don't need to do any of this. Just ground the handbrake wire anywhere on the car and it's then always grounded and always works.
This method doesn't work. The AppRadio requires a double application of the parking brake switch (like stated below). I am running firmware version 2.22 and I wired up a manual rocker switch and it works fine.
Or just ground the green wire that connects to the parking brake and you are good to go.
The images reversed message sounds like you ran the relay wire thats supposed to goto your parking brake to your reverse cam power wire.
why cant you just ground the parking brake relay?
Why can't you just ground the wire it self? That's all i done on my AVIC system and its just like having the parking bake on at all time .
hey i got a relay and it doesnt have pin 87a will that still work, i know you dont use it but i just wanna make sure? thanks
I hooked it all up but still nothing
Cool u like tommy sotomayor!!
