For the moment since I can't get root (not even temporarily using mtk-su), and I can't use the exploit from this video to get access to the boot loader to install a new OS, I've just been modifying the current OS as best I can. You can use aurora to get a new launcher (I just went with bliss because I am already familiar with it from using /e/ foundation - I'm sure there are better ones out there). With the new launcher, at least you won't be constantly bombarded by ads when you're just trying to open an app. Oh, and also install adaway from f-droid!! I used adb shell, and then from the device I used the package manager function to disable amazon spyware. From the adb shell, type 'pm listpackages' to find out what packages are currently installed. You can also type 'logcat' to monitor all the operations happening on your tablet, and then from the tablet you can click on an app to see it load up and find out the name (some of them are not intuitively named, like com.amazon.tahoe is the 'free time' app). Then use 'pm disable-user ' for whatever package you want to remove (I took everything off except video, for example, because that's the only one I will actually want to use). The bloat-ware is still installed, so it still takes up space on the device, but at least it's disabled... Hope this helps!
