I just finished the final book and I really liked how Grossman gave the closure of everything, it's great how I couldn't stop reading because of the questions he presented. I'm looking forward to read his new material when he releases it, greetings from Argentina.
I'm so glad Grossman did this talk! It's nice to hear from the author. I totally tweeted at him when I finished the series, which is totally strange since 1. I never use twitter and 2. I never communicate with authors.
This dude knows a shit ton more than people realize. The whole Marie Byrd land in Antarctica??? So many things in his book series are true. I didn’t realize it until recently. I 100% see you Mr. Gross man😎
I must his read his books, he seems like a very good author and its so nice to see his Book trilogy Magicians becoming a show on Syfy. I am totally buying on DVD and BluRay
I have to disagree with the first question guy. I find escapism in the grey area novels like The Magicians or A song of ice and fire. Yes the grey is more realistic. But it’s easier for me to escape to than cut and dry good vs bad.
Fast forward 6 years later: this is so amazing after watching 5 seasons of an adaptation of his story turned into one of my most favorite shows I've watched and I know that's a lot to say but no show has ever made me feel so close to the characters or feel such sorrow for the loss of a fantasy character on TV. I laughed, I cried and I always wondered where this idea came from. I'm so happy for rabbit holes sometimes. :) I was too old to connect to Harry Potter and the universe but once the magicians started I was so excited and couldn't get enough. And now syfy has canceled it after 5 seasons. Which I'm surprised it lasted that long on syfy cause they aren't known for keeping a show when it starts to dip. But the writers of that show did this writer a very just service of his story and if you haven't seen it, watch it.
I'm not sure why he keeps referring to the Harry Potter series, except for the obvious overlap fact which he made very clear was owned by J.K. But there are sooooo many mistakes and inconsistencies in her own canon that I can't enjoy the books.
I love the magicians but I gotta call bullshit on one thing lev says he says he books have no voldemort, white witch or sauron etc. but he has the beast and Reynard the fox who may be a little different than a traditional big bad but they are organising figures that give the characters a direction\ motivation
loved the books, scifi butchered the story though, maybe due for a movie closer to the books timeline?? was writing a fanfic mashup of the graduating class of hogwartz getting sucked thru a portkey into the neitherlands and meeting up with the brakebills/physical kids, couldn't decide whether or not to make harry or dumbledore into the beast...
@@captainamerica8118 other projects ended up taking precedence, I only wrote like a chapter of that, but thanks lol - If I ever had time to return to writing fan-fic I would probably go in an entirely new direction and do a Supernatural/The Magicians spinoff with Q's son or grandkid, meeting up with Sam's kid for some Legacy/Hunter X Magickian (Nu Fillorian) badassery. ;)
@@captainamerica8118 thank you, I've been thinking about that later one since they ended SPN, would be cool af to pitch the idea to Sara Gamble or one of the others who worked on both programs... just no clue what to call it, maybe "Wayward Fillorian" ... idk
Well what a surprise,I only though Lev was some "safe space loving;non binary;far left raging radical feminist lesbian" 😅kinda disappointing it was a straight white dude who made me question the whole "hero dude" trope.
I'm trying to get through the first book. I'm really disappointed by it. It's not the best thing I've ever read. Moreover, I've already found 2 errors that an editor should have found. page 186 says 'become' when it should say 'became'. Also, earlier he used 'malingering' incorrectly. I'm guessing he meant 'meandering'.
The final book of his I thought was a disappointment. He handled sex well in his first book, and it went downhill in the third. Sex scene towards the end of the third lost hold of me in the story. It's like he just gave up on the finale.

Did he answer?
This is a man of my own heart. He mentions so many of my own impactful literary favorites.

Take on me cover broke my heart man
Fantastic writing, and great series, keep up the good work!
Lev's got the hardest button to button!
Love the Magicians btw!
I can't believe Lev Grossman wears jackets that are even rattier than my own - maybe I'm hip without realizing!
I finally got them !!! Yeah!!!
