My history. Thank you. Although I'm Black American/FBA, my history do go back to the Mandinka and Fulani, and I appreciate you displaying our history. Thanks again. FBA all the way, everyday🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼!!!!! Akin.
So glad I found yet another channel about African culture Btw, just asking if I understood this right, the original Sofa sabers were straight but later on they got a curve because the blacksmiths were inspired by the French? I hope for a quick answer Anyways, I've actually seen a Sofa saber with a hilt and guard similar to European swords
That is a beautiful sword! I'd seen pics of similar ones, but never with any size reference. Yes I agree it's short, but definitely a sword. I assumed it was a bit bigger by the vids thumbnail. But warriors of old knew their arts so it is the size it should be. But again let me say that is a beautiful sword! I'm glad you own it
I'm Black American/FBA. Thanks for putting the truth of our ancient history on display. As a Sofa, this was great information. Swords are okay, but I/we don't use them. Instead, I/we use a spear and bow just like many of the Sofa did back in the day. For more modern weapons, I/we use submachine guns, pistols, and sniper rifles. That's what makes me a ancient and modern day Sofa (warrior). FBA all the way, everyday🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻!!!!! Yera💧.
I’m west African and I am a Vai Manding man decendant of the ruling class of the Mali Empire of the Mansa lineage Mande tribes used Manding swords such as the Mandinka Saber, the Toma sword and other sword Mande sword types
If u can still see this I'd really like us to work together. I'm from Nigeria and I'm trying to do an animated series of various African events. Starting with the 1235 battle of Kirina. 🤝
Wow finally TH-cam sends me something good! This was very informative and cool! I wonder if these sabers were made in a similar fashion as Katanas are made? The katana gets its shape from the cooling process, it would be highly interesting if the same thing causes the curvature in these blades.
Aha! Thankh you for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed my video! I agree! It would be interesting to see how these swords are made. Maybe the secret lies with the blacksmith class of the Western Sudan.
I've noticed many of these blades tend to be exceptionally dull, mine included. I'm beginning to suspect that they were intentionally made that way specifically to sell as a form of early tourist trinkets or decoration. Any sword intended to be made for battle would have, at minimum, a single compound bevel, so that they could be hastily given the final sharpening before a conflict. But with how dull these are, I feel like that's not the case. I had to get mine professionally sharped down before I could actually do any cutting and get some feel for its handling and potential.
Hello my name is Comikel I'm a writer and I'm doing research for my book would I be able to get all of your information on the Sofa warriors? Thanks for your time
I like the way he got the Sofa saber set up. However, I like the spear better👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻!!!!! That's what makes me a unique Sofa Warrior today and forever. FBA all the way, everyday🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻!!!!! Yera💧.
Hey, that artwork at the end of the video is so dope! Who made it and where can I find more? I'm always interested in contemporary art that doesn't depict stereotypical images of Africans.
Hmm, never put it like that before myself, but based on the slave-warrior caste system of both the Mamluks and Sofas, I guess one could make that connection.
This is so cool. Africans are amazing. Thank you for sharing.
You are African too

The ornamentation on many African weapons is utterly beautiful. Blade itself reminds me a bit of a small eastern european shashka saber.
Saw some mandinka sword with hilts
ma sha'a Allah. unique weapons for unique people👍🏿
