    I have to admit, having the restraint to NOT plant anything new right now is my biggest challenge! I have so many perennials in my backyard containers that i want to put in the front yard, but it’s just not the right time. Glad to see that you still have many, many pretties in your garden, even in the dead of summer!❤

    your garden is so gorgeous even after leaving it for 3 weeks. I always enjoy your tours. Texas is tough on gardens, but this year has been wild to me as we haven't had drought due to good rains and almost 2 weeks of temperatures under 100!

    I forgot about this Dawn; I want you to talk about that tree-form oakleaf hydrangea sometime if you don’t mind, like if you’re happy with it, how long it will take for it to bloom, if you had any moment of panic when you began to prune, etc. Thanks!!😊

    • @shadedfromreality

      Hey Stacey, No panic at all! I’m happy with it, but I’m going to have to do a better job of staking it. When it blooms, it is super heavy and is still leaning! It’s not requiring as much trimming as I thought it would. I grew it from a cutting and have been training it since then. I think that made it easier😆

    • @summerofstacey6676

    • @shadedfromreality

      Hi LIsa, Thank you so much! We only have 2 areas that border the pool and the dirt is well below the rock, so thankfully, it is not a problem!

    What a beautiful backyard! I really enjoyed the tour. I am in 9b zone and we really struggle with the heat. I put in 2 dry creek beds and I am thinking about installing some pebble walk ways with step stones. I have trouble keeping the tree and plant leaves out of the rocks. The leaves fall in between the rocks (I have larger rocks) and I am afraid they will decompose and create weed problems. I keep up the blowing every week during the fall. I thought of putting smaller rocks in to fill in the open spaces but thought I would be blowing the small rock around. I love the look of the plants hanging over onto my paths but I cut them back to keep the leaves and flowers out. How do you keep the leaves off your rock walk way? Your garden look well-kept and clan.

    • @shadedfromreality

      Hi Diana, Thank you so much! That sounds like it will be so nice! When the leaves start falling, I use the blower pretty regularly as well, but I don't have that many trees that drop leaves in the back yard, don't seem to have the same problem! You might have more trees than i do!

    Gorgeous garden. Very well laid out. I was wondering about the dicondra. Does it die back and come back over winter into spring or do you have to replant it. Thanks

    • @shadedfromreality

      Hi There ~ Thank you so much! It depends on the location. Throughout my yard, most of it dies back, but it comes back in spring. The area featured in the video is protected from the north, so some of it stayed evergreen through the season. Hope that helps!

    • @wesleyhackney

      @@shadedfromreality yes. I actually have some planted in a couple of pots. I live near Destin FL on the water zone 8b/9a so I’ll just bring it into the garage for the couple of night ls we get below 32. Again enjoyed the less formal more natural planting of your garden.

    • @shadedfromreality

      @@wesleyhackney Oh, ok! We get below 32 pretty often as well. The ones in the pots are a different story! I would say about 50% survive our freezes, but they are slow to come back, so I usually do wind up replacing them.

    When do you start planning zinnias?

    • @shadedfromreality

      Hello Tracy, I start seeds indoors in the late winter/early spring and usually plant them outside around mid April. I also start sowing direct when it warms up even more, so usually May/Early June. Hope that helps!
