I like the fact that you are not afraid to take chances. If you are gonna make an omelet you have to break a few eggs, or uh props, so to speak. It is what most of us would have done. John of RCVideo reviews has some simple rules for maidens: Stay high, Check el & Ail trims, vertical at full throttle and cut throttle and see if it falls off to one side to trim the rudder, then climb 45 Deg at full throttle and roll to inverted to check the CG, do a big loop to check the empenage. Thats it? Retracts remain down, no gyro on. Land and check everything. He recently decided to go beyond those principals on a maiden and was rewared with a crash.

I could see the props slowing while you were flying inverted; it stalled and the recovery roll would have worked away from trees and obstacles. Nice recovery tips and attitude. Thanks for posting.
Oh Dear!! What a shame, especially since you had essentially saved it. Ken Heron talks about pesky trees reaching out and grabbing drones... ;). I think that tree took issue with your nice new shiny plane making it look bad! I am sure you will have it fixed up and be out flying it again soon. You are always very composed when things like this happen, which I admire greatly. I don't think I would be able to put up a video of the same happening to me, at least not without the sound bleeped out!
Any chance you could do a short on the hot water to fix a bend foamie nose, Gary? I dropped my UMX Twin Otter out of some lower oak branches and it nosed into the deck, bent a bit. Never heard of using hot water to move the foam around. Hope you can recover that thing cheaply(ish) Gary.
Are you the same guy who flew with Elijah at Wingmasters the other day? You flew the commander inverted at 6 feet about the deck. But then our trees are 1500 feet away. Thanks for posting and see you in August at our tail gate swapmeet.

Sorry GG. It's unfortunate but as we know it's part of the hobby. She sure was looking good. At least the damage wasn't to bad. I Madden my voodoo yesterday. Pretty peppy little sucker. And I'm gonna get my cirrus fixed. I was coming in for a landing and clipped the soybeans and striped a servo and busted the prop last summer. Parts were on backorder so I ordered them and got them a few weeks ago. Hope all is well with you and the family. Keep smiling and God bless my friend.

You had it saved if it wasn't for that tree! Mine will be here on Saturday! Even tho I can fly inverted, I rarely do just because of that. You handled that well Gary, shows you're a true Christian! You really are a great pilot, and you take the good with the bad! For all of you that may want to become an RC pilot, just know that crashing is part of this sport. Sometimes having a good time with a plane means taking a chance of things could go badly. I've crashed more planes than I can count, but I Love this sport! One mid air crash was epic! Striker vs gas powered plane, they hit head on at full speed. 😱
oops happens to us all man the other week i crashed my me163 komet cuz i hit the trainer switch by mistake it killed all my sticks and down it went lol
Well looks all fixable, it could had been worst. If a person is honest in this hobby we all have a day where we mess up. Hot water is a good repair for the nose damage, I would use woodland foam putty on the horizonal tail damage, and replace the broken prop. I would also double check the engine mount area for cracking just because of the prop strike.
What to say. Sorry for you crash mr. Its sad , but its life in this hobby. Hope you can fix it. Its easy to be to selfcofident. Thin many of knows what l lm talking about. Take care mr😊😊
This time I wish I would have been more on the edge Gary! I felt right at home like it was my 50th time flying a Timber..... It may have been. It was flying just like it had been fully trimmed out and everything. Uggghhhh.....
Please try to be a bit more careful with your camera angles, you aren't getting your planes in your shots completely. And yes ! By all means, please do one or two repair videos ! We all have either ended up with crash damage, or will eventually end up with crash damage ! ( none of us are that good ) 😎 Gonna end up pickin' up the pieces, and doin' the walk of dejection and heartbreak eventually !

Yeah, I slowed the motors because it was climbing. Unfortunately, it started to descend a little too quickly. 🛬🌳

I try to go flying at least once a week, irregardless of weather. 2x a week is my normal. I see pilots take 2 weeks or more off & they can't fly.
I hate making a bunch of excuses but I was also operating on about 3 hours of sleep. I probably should have waited a day. It was just so nice out. 😅👍
