I live in WI too and just caught some hogs on a frog
South east, beliot area. Ive caught bass the last couple weeks but its hasnt been as good since the last heat wave. Storms seem to have helped
I'm nw WI, Washburn Co. I fish from shore I still catch bass last evening. today I had a pike bit off my jig, then it rain.

I have been fishing for 50 years and it still thrills me. It doesn’t even matter if I always catch fish. It’s just fishing is my spiritual place. Always do CPR unless pan fish for a dinner. You need to invest in 36 egg pack a bucked and a package of Yest .and a small box of lard . Beat the eggs like scrambled eggs . Dump the yeast in the bucket put it up high where no critters cant get to it let the sun and heat rot the eggs . Melt half the lard pour it in the bucket and stirr good .if loose use corn starch . And last green food coloring cats can see green clear in stained water

Hey Matt I just came across your channel and it’s absolutely awesome to know that you’re right next door to me and Fishing the same Fish that I fish. I’m a big Mouth Bass hunter, & Northern Pike’s for me. This summer I caught my personal best Pike from shore. Caught her twice actually… and the 2nd time I caught her she didn’t make it. She swallowed my lure and was bleeding everywhere before I even got her to the shore, but she’s getting mounted as we speak & I’ll have her come my Birthday here next month. I’m SUPER excited about that. First Fish I’ve ever mounted and she’s an absolutely gorgeous Fish. I HATE that she swallowed it and didn’t make it back, but after 2 hours of standing in the water with her trying to get her to come back to life, she just kept wanting to flop over on her back. Killed me to have to take her, but couldn’t just leave her there to die. Well at least I’m mounting her and she’ll forever be mine. But LOVE your channel and content so far. Just stumbled upon it this morning, in my “recommended for me” section, come to find out only that you live right next to me in ND. And I’m right over the boarder here in MN. I’d love to be able to chat with you sometime. If you wouldn’t mind sharing some time with me. Absolutely love your kayak setup, you got so much stuff on there that I got questions about. I’ve been wanting one for quite sometime now but just haven’t been able to afford it. I really want to get one though. Seems like it’s quite a nice & easy way to make your way through the shallows & such. Anyway! Love to hear back from ya, names Jeff. Absolute honor to be watching your vids. I’d love to do Fish coverage videos like this as well, I just Fish from docks though & never really can tell whether you’re going to get a bite or not. Use a mesh material and cut in 1-1/2 pieces and tie shrimp in. Keeps smaller fish from " stealing" . Cats aren't deterred by mesh. Same method as tying salmon eggs for big trout. Prepare all your baggies before leaving for the river.
Channel cat river fishing is how I started kayaking and smallmouth fishing. Might need to do sometime, but then again the flatheads are calling.
I’m surprised that you target channel cat. I always thought you northern lads saw catfish as a trash fish. I never understood that; in Kansas we love ‘em.

I've dipped lures and bait in Asian shrimp paste. What a taste treat for the fish.
Nothing wrong with soaking bait once in awhile, it is relaxing.
Nice! The biggie was a Blue catfish, the others were Channel. Looks like fun!
a little tip for catfishing with shrimp, get full body shrimp WITH the shell still on, doesn’t fall off the hook as much when nipped at by cats or other fish, and marinate the shrimp with garlic powder and strawberry jello mix, works every time for myself
it also helps that i live in the channel cat capitol of the world lol or at least of all canada

A good trick, you can use a shower "body loofah" you can make a little bag with that mesh put the shrimp and "hook it" with the hook. So in that way the small fish doesn't eat it and you keep the bait in the hook all the time.

Also, I don't wanna tell you what to do, but when I fish a slip bobber I like using an egg sinker. I think they give you more control, and you can buy them all the way down to 1/8 oz. But again that's just me. Keep up the awesome work Matt!

Elastic bait string. Works wonders, use it for sturgeon bait. In the state of Oregon, baroness hooks are required for sturgeon, so it's a good cheat to help keep the bait on a hook 👍

You can use a wrap to keep shrimp on hook for longer . We use it here in Ireland 🇮🇪 when deadbaiting for pike ✌️

Chickens livers in a cut stocking end on a treble hook is popular here. I like to use the cheapest hot dogs, channels and blues hit them just the same.

Great video as usual, and super cool contrast to lure fishing action. sometimes it is nice to just sit back and enjoy the river. Some "elastic cotton" or "filo elastico" and no problem with softer baits.

I like to use elastic thread and do a few windings around the shrimp to hold to the hook.

There's an elastic type thread for wrapping around baits. So it doesn't get stolen, or fly off during cast. Probably called bait threads or something. Lol
I have a box of nylon leggings I used to make a pop filter for one of my mics, I probably could have just wrapped some of that around it.

Shrimp for bait, high class ! LOL....When I was a kid we used hotdogs and bacon from the fridge.... Don't recall if mom knew or not, I think we snuck it out of the house :)

Decent cat! Fishing doesnt seem as crazy there as downstream in Lockport but you don't have to deal with a crowd of people fishing beside you. I would trade off slower fishing for the peace and quiet anyday!
One of these days I’d like to make a trip up to Lockport! I was planning on at least going to Drayton dam this summer, you can find some 20lb+ fish up there, but with the super low water levels this summer all the pics I’ve seen from up there the fish are kind of scrawny looking.
@@ndyakangler the water levels in the Red were definitely low and cat fishing was slow when I went last month caught 4, all 15-20 pounds. I've heard the bite is picking up and fish are putting the weight back on. Fishing is great there even during slow times.
