WLToys K989, 284131 will it be faster with a locked front differential?

  • If you follow our channel, you might have noticed that we also race with 1:10 scale touring rc cars in the local club, and these touring cars (XRAY T4 2021 and Xpress XQ1) all have a locked front diff.
    So what happens if we lock the front differential on the the WLToys K989 or WlToys 284131? Will they become faster and have improved speed? or what will happen? Watch this video and find out :-)

    With front locked diff, the traction control & handling really improved. So it makes the car more fast and steady than usual!

      Yes they are very fast, I don’t think they get more than 60% throttle on this track

    Hi there and a great demonstration of how these little RC’s are just as important to setup right to get the maximum handling and lap times out of them. Super video. Take care and best wishes to you all 😉😊😉

    Very cool! Thanks for sharing, this is so informative. I really like your lap counter, is this a kit you bought or did you make it yourself?

    I would rather like to know how it can be made much slower and better controllable to run indoors. Not interested in speed in RC cars.

      Hi, in that case I would recommend upgrading the radio - it make a huge difference for K989. The radio for K989 is pretty bad (it's better for 284131 and 284010). I am using this radio on my K989 and it has several benefits: It has no dead spots, you can reduce speed and it has EXP, see more about that in this video: th-cam.com/video/_LAe7qcECkY/w-d-xo.html

    could you test too see if the k969 porsche style body would make the car faster? i have a k969 that im gonna make into a grip car and i wanna see if the body is goo for racing. would be cool to see!

    • @LyhneRC
      @LyhneRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, that's an interesting thing. We race 1:10 scale touring cars (th-cam.com/video/valLznIuC7A/w-d-xo.html) and here the body has a huge impact on grip and handling, those cars had a top speed of 40km/h and that's enough to to generate downforce. I am not sure the 20km/h topspeed of the K989 is enough to generate noticeable downforce. If you are searching for more grip then we know that tire additive can help you: th-cam.com/video/R4TGSu7NmBQ/w-d-xo.html. When I compare the K989 to the 284131 then the 284241 is better handling, maybe it's the body. You have gotten me curious, maybe I will make a body comparison test :-)

    So would the back diff be better locked or open for drifting? I'm a little confused haha

    • @LyhneRC
      @LyhneRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, for drifting it’s best with all diffs locked. For racing back should be open and front open or locked. I have another video about drifting with locked or open diffs

    • @LyhneRC
      @LyhneRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, it’s a lap timer. I made it myself using a laser, laser detector and an Arduino. The cheapest I know, that you can buy is this lapmonitor.com/store/en/

    Hey, okay det havde jeg ikke lige set komme at man låser det forrest diff , troede den ville understyre for vildt men kan godt se ideen så måske jeg lige skulle kigge på det engang. Og god video makker.

    • @LyhneRC
      @LyhneRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ja det undrer mig lidt hvorfor det virker, men det er sådan vores 1:10 touring biler er sat op og det virker også på små biler 👍

    Is it wrong that i used glue to lock the rear diff because my 284131 completely lost drive to its rear right wheel? It fixed the problem, but was it a mistake😊

    • @LyhneRC
      @LyhneRC  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on how you use the car. If you want to drift then locked diff is good, but not for racing. In this video I try to use the K969 with both locked diffs as a racer and drifter, and I try to use the K989 with both diffs open as both racer and drifter. As you can see in the video the diffs has a huge impact on the handling th-cam.com/video/joNTf1FLNDw/w-d-xo.html

    • @van_r2222
      @van_r2222 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Locked means make it from 4wd to 2wd right ?

    • @LyhneRC
      @LyhneRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s still 4wd. The locked diff just locks the wheels so they always rotates at the same speed. You can either buy a locked diff, I did that or you can add some glue to the small gears in the stock diff, but then you can’t undo it.

    • @LyhneRC
      @LyhneRC  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are right. I did upgrade the radio later on and it made the car faster and much easier to control. I made this video about that: WLToys K989/K969/284131 radio upgrade FlySky FS-GT3B with EXP, Exponential. Improve steering.
