The idea is that one's piety and devotion can be so perfect, they are essentially adopted as a child of God.
Even the Jews used the phrase in this context. David, Solomon, Enoch, & many others were called Sons of God in this context. Jesus also used it in this way, which is why he reminds the Pharisees of what their scripture says.

@@hegagi839 For your information my dear (undoubtedly) Christian friend, there was a small sect of Jews who deified Ezra, in ways similar to how you Christians deify the son of Mary/Miriam/Maryam. That’s why some Jews (Teimanim) refuse to utter the name Ezra or to even name their children as such because they think it’s a divine name similar to how Orthodox Jews do not utter the exalted name of God (The Tetragrammaton: YHWH). This is not new. Plus, Jews have had others in their past who erred by deifying leaders they admired, including the Shabse Tzvi (who was a Kabbalist from Turkey). Even in modern times a few adherents of Hasidism have elevated their Rabbis a bit too much.
Don’t listen to anti-islamist bigots and cunning Christian missionaries who desperately try to malign Islam in order to:
      1. Spread the hatred of Islam and Muslims.
      2. Try to convert Jews and Muslims and have them doubt their faiths.

There is a concept of "Lesser Yahwe" or "Metatron" which Jews consider Divine in Greko-Roman sense. Quran is reffering to that. Metatron forms one of the traces for the presence of dualist proclivities in the otherwise monotheistic visions of both the Tanakh and later Christian doctrine.
    From wiki:
From Hellenistic times, mention of a second divine figure, either beside YHWH or beneath him, occur in a number of Jewish texts, mostly apocryphal. These Jewish traditions implying a divine dualism were most frequently associated with Enoch. In the rabbinic period they centre on 'Metatron', often in the context of debates over the heretical doctrine of 'two powers in heaven' (shtei rashunot ba-shammayim).[6][2] Ultimately these ideas appear to go back to differing interpretations of the heavenly enthronement passages at Exodus 24:10f., Daniel 7:9f. and perhaps even Ezekiel 1:26f.[7] interpretations that came to distinguish what was orthodox from what was heretical in Judaism.

When people say, “The Romans” built roads, they don’t mean every single Roman.
The same is similar for the word “You” it does not always imply a single object. For example, TWO children walk into class late, the professor says “why are YOU late?” when addressing THEM ALTOGETHER.
Imagine i write about this example further in the following manner…
“upon hearing THEIR response”, (despite ONLY ONE child speaking) the professor says, “YOU sit here and YOU sit there, don’t ever be late to my lessons again!” …in this second usage the “you” is specific to the individuals.

    Good explanation from the Rabbi!
A point of clarification: Ezra ("Uzair") is not considered a prophet in the Quran or the canonical sources. Some Muslim scholars probably did express the opinion that he was, but the evidence is far too ambiguous to attribute this view to Islamic tradition as a whole. He is certainly not called a prophet in the Quran, or in any of the canonical traditions accepted as sound (such as those in Bukhari or Muslim).
Nor does the Islamic tradition give any clear grounds for denying that Ezra was a prophet; the issue is left open, as with many other figures.

That's irrelevant as the claim is that the Jews in general believe that Ezra is the Son of God like the Christians believe Jesus is the Son of God. The Quran says also there is people that worship Jesus and marry bisite God but we all know a lot of Christians don't worship marry and will also claim that they worship God the father. The fact that some Christians worship either the father or the son or marry Allah adds them all together. A lot of people claim this verse is talking about trinity, it is not it is talking about people who worship Jesus and marry bisite God. When the Quran mentioned the trinity it says do not say god is the third in three because it refutes the Christians and who ever is going to say god is "one in three or god is the third in three" by mentioning another two it refutes them also

Salam /shaloom brother, I remember reading that Allah said that some jews/Christians did evil things( daily matters) if it was not their Leaders(rabbis....) who stopped them , they would have become transgressors. that 's because their Leaders feared Allah as it was supposed to be feared and spoke the truth, so here we see a good example of a Rabbi who is responsible, fair and knowledgeable unlike some Christians who claim to know the truth, who would use any passage where it is not clear to attack Islam or others. Hence why I admire your honesty. Bless you and May God almighty guide you and guide all your followers to the truth. Amen. I think that jew or jews who believed so saw the miracle of Prophet Ezra Peace and blessing upon him and assumed he had to be the son of the Almighty since he was given everything he needed to re-establish temple worship in Jerusalem, including sacrifices of atonement. The covenant community would resume covenant worship of their covenant God in the covenant city.. but we all know that the moment you compare Almighty God to any of his creation, you have then committed a huge and grave sin

A recent commentator suggested that Uzayr is actually Osiris and not Ezra the Prophet/Scribe. And the Jews when they were in Egypt took Osiris the same position as the Christians took Jesus Christ. Another commentator says that Uzayr is translated also as the Messiah, but the Jewish Messiah is David.
    So the three candidates are:
    1) Ezra/Esdras the Prophet/Scribe (there were a minority of Jews worshipping him at the time of the Prophet, as narrated by Ibn Abbas)
    2) Osiris the Egyptian God of Fertility (related to Hathor, the Golden Calf, Sirius etc.)
    3) David the Prophet/King (needs evidence)
And other candidates too such as Azariah.
These are only opinions, whoever Uzayr really is doesn't matter. What matters is that *there were some (minority of) Jews who took Uzayr (whoever he may be) as the Son of God,* which is condemned in Islam and in Orthodox Judaism.

Ezra or Uzair in Arabic . As you said the Quran mentioned him in chapter 9 verse 30. But also Mr Rabbi, his story is mentioned in Al Baqara chapter 2 verse259 ." Or of him who, when passing by a town the rooftop which had caved in, exclaimed, 'how will God restore it to life after its destruction?' Thereupon God caused him to die, and after a hundred years, brought him back to life. God asked, ' How long have you remained in this state?' He answered, ' I have remained a day or part of a day. ' God said, ' No, you have remained in this state for a hundred years. Now look at your food and your drink; they have not rotted. Look at your ass. We will make you a sign to mankind. Look at the bones _ how We set them together, then clothe them with flesh!' When it had all become clear to him, he said, ' Now I know that God has power over all things. ' So Ezra was passing by Jerusalem riding his donkey carrying little food and the rest of the story as mentioned in the Noble Quran above.

Ezra wrote the Jewish book after he returned to Al Qudis, he was referred in the Jewish text as an Angel and at that time period Angels where thought to be as sons of God.
I may dare say that rabies think of Ezra as the second most important prophet after Mousa (pace apon him).
He took several texts and put them in one book.
Laws where changed or modified to his understanding, as a result the laws are not the same that God intended to the Jews.
Changing laws is only for Allah , when you change a single thing you are taking Allah's role and in that scene you worship who changed the text or laws.
    This is my understanding.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Yes, and added: Do you feel any trouble in seeing the sun at noon with no cloud over it, and do you feel trouble in seeing the moon (open) in the full moonlit night with no cloud over it? They said: No, Messenger of Allah! He (the Holy Prophet) said: You will not feel any trouble in seeing Allah on the Day of Resurrection any more than you do in seeing any one of them. When the Day of Resurrection comes a Mu'adhdhin (a proclaimer) would proclaim: Let every people follow what they used to worship. Then all who worshipped idols and stones besides Allah would fall into the Fire, till only the righteous and the vicious and some of the people of the Book who worshipped Allah are left. Then the Jews would be summoned, and it would be said to them: What did you worship? They will say: We worshipped 'Uzair, son of Allah. It would be said to them: You tell a lie; Allah had never had a spouse or a son. What do you want now? They would say: We feel thirsty, O our Lord! Quench our thirst. They would be directed (to a certain direction) and asked: Why don't you go there to drink water? Then they would be pushed towards the Fire (and they would find to their great dismay that) it was but a mirage (and the raging flames of fire) would be consuming one another, and they would fall into the Fire.

This Ezra, who is in the Bible's chapter 7, had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances ( not the) in Israel... equal Hosea's first season 9:10, and over these ( Ezra and Hosea) were 3 governors ( of whom Daniel was one), that the satraps might give account to them.( Not to one of them- Luke 10:22)
And after these things, Esther's 3 promoted Haman and advanced Him and set His seat above all the princes who were with Him.( Is it not this *26:197?) Then is *9:26 for their year of Purim and*9:28 = Esther 9:32 confirmed!
(( Does your memory last 3 seconds like the ape's, O, *61:6 sons of Israel?))
Nehemiah 11:24 of the children of Zerah the son of Judah was the King's deputy in all matters concerning Deuteronomy 33:39

    Wow Rabi Tovia-
I heard your explanation- and the way you professionally handled this - makes me think
You might be from amongst the True Truth seekers of God - amongst the small group of people who carry the Jewish label and the protection of God.
This protection i believe is not afforded to the vast majority of others who hold the same label but dont seem to seek Truth.
(same is true of the larger group of labeled Muslims and Labeled Christians- who are also mostly lost- except for a select few in their respective labels).
I have enormous respect for you and it makes me want to learn about Moses the Great Prophet of God during that time in History

Gordon Darnell Newby has suggested that the Quranic expression may have reflected Ezra's possible designation as one of the Bene Elohim (lit. sons of God) by Jews of the Hejaz.

That seems very weak and cowardice. The Quran contains heaps of biblical stories retold completely differently and he never criticizes it. Yet if one word in the Gospels is slightly different compared to the Tanakh, he loses his mind.

I THINK ITS NOT ERZA ITS UZAIR HE WAS SOMEONE DIED 100 YEARS AND THEN CAME BACK ALIVE AS THE QURAN PROVIDES HE WAS FASCINATED THE CREATION OF ALLAH AND SAYING HOW IS THIS CREATED AND BEEN DESTROYED AND ALLAH THEN DEMONSTRATE ON HIM BY TAKING HIS LIFE AND THEN RETURNED IT TO HIM AFTER 100 YEARS
AND THE JEWS WE ARE TALKING ABOUT ARE ARAB JEWS BUT THIS TOPIC IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION

In Surah 9:30 we read that “the Jews” say that Ezra (actually Uzair in Arabic who is not known in the Jewish literature) is the Son of God the Christians say that the Jesus is the Son of God. “the Jews” implies all of the Jews, yet there are no Jews known who ever made this claim. And even if there was some obscure Jewish sect that said that Ezra is the Son of God, the verse is still false as “the Jews” ie all of them never said this.
