I live near this, about 25-ish minutes or so away, for Halloween they make it an attraction and you walk through with people jumping out at you and I used to go a lot, so much fun!
Drove by it many times and fish that lake often, but I have never stopped and toured this ship. After seeing the video, it's on my to do list. Thanks for the great video.
Really nice, has more paint and lighting since I was on her. I didn't know that they had overnight stays there. Did you see the picture in the wheel house of a wave crashing over the wheel house? That's a big wave. Thanks again
What a fabulous video!! I love this ship. Every time I see her, I learn something new. There's even a photo of one of the Chief Stewards in the galley. The COM is truly living history.
Thanks, very interesting. I grew-up in Muskegon and this was one of the Grand Trunk car ferries that went between Muskegon and Wisconsin. There were usually three going back and forth with about 35 railroad cars. Not very efficient by todays standards, where freight trains can be up to 12000 ft long. The ferry crews were also quite large in number. In the video I was surprised at how fancy it was with all the nice paneling and such. I thought it would be more "Spartan"..... and ironically one of the C&O car ferries out of Ludington is named the "Spartan". For a while one of the ex Ann Arbor RR car ferries, out of Frankfurt, was being towed around looking for a home to be fixed-up. It ended-up in Detour Village for a while. I believe the owner wasn't paying for the berth and it was repossessed and sold for scrap.
It wasn't that cold - Poppins gets cold though. Maybe 55 F and they had heaters in the rooms if you wanted to use them. I believe it was early June during an unusual cold spell.
Around 10 or so years ago, we acquired the original captains sea coat along with documents like his captains license and immigration papers. We also have various other things that had been owned by him.
Good question. I think just a couple of rodents were crawling around between decks. It was just a couple of moments of scratching and running across the ceiling in the night. I didn't think anyone read the comments. LOL.
Not sure if that is same vessel but when I was about 12 yo (1959) my parents and I took a ferry from Muskegon, Mi. to Milwaukee, took about 8 hours or so, and we slept all night on the crossing.
Your dancing was impressive. Looks like you took lessons. The City of Milwaukee was one of the boats I took with my family when a teenager in the 60's to visit cousins in Milwaukee. Thanks.
@@stevekunde123 Ah! LOL. I thought you met a "List of Items". 🤣😂 Yeah, there wasn't any noticeable list on the ship. But, now that you mention it, it does look like it is listing on film.
Odd, I wondered the same thing many years ago when I had some lasting experiences with another teacher named Poppins . I have not met the Poppins of these wonderful videos so I can not give an authoritative answer for her but , as a very young student and aspiring teacher, I learned that to succeed as she had, one needed to be both stern and tender, secret and proud, anonymous and loving, quietly moving with confidence, though occasionally a bit fanciful and flighty, hoping for subconscious influence on those who knew them. Many, many similarities between these two. Though neither have ever said so, I believe the surname is originally British, perhaps from a line of educators.
Stayed here last weekend. Had a great time and slept like a baby. Very relaxing.
i was born and raised in manistee!!!!
i remember seeing that ferry docked in frankfort MI awaiting its fate.

I remember when it was still hauling freight cars
I had no idea this existed, thanks for the video
During the fall they decorate it for Halloween and turn it into a haunted ship!
Very cool!! My family and I toured the City of Milwaukee a couple weeks ago. We all found found it extremely interesting. Even my 6 year old grandson.
that is awesome i gotta get there!
How cool is this? Thank you for sharing. You two are so delightful to watch.
Thanks Wendy!

I did see it. Big Wave.
I would pay good money to watch a full length movie of the two of you acting as railroad executives from the early 20th century hahaha 😂 classic!
😂😂😅
Love that area!
Interesting and well produced. Thank you!!!
Aww. Thanks!
Hey! I know those workers! I volunteer every year for when they turn it into Manistee’s Ghost Ship!
This is very cool!
Great video :)

Brave Vikings, both of you!

I wouldn't like to pay too much money to be cold indoors, What time of year did you go? Interesting video thanks

But of course... love you guys!
I'm only live only a hour away I've been there several times it's fabulous

@@RestlessViking OOPS!!
Fantastic Video enjoyed It😊
Thank you very much!
I was in Manistee in 2021, and drove up to the ship to check it out, but sadly it was closed that day
Thanks!
Welcome! Thank you!

I don’t have enough years left. Hmmm, pick a video, let’s go!
Is that the ship, that use to be docked in Frankfort Michigan?
James Earl Jones is from that area! Darth Vader voice.
Better on the City on milwaukee ,in Michigan, than to stay on Michigan, in the city of Milwaukee
Flickering lights are never a good sign, make sure smoke alarm works and exits are clear
Interesting. Was the list ever explained? Or was that just an illusion on camera?
List? Time stamp?
Must have just been a camera effect. It looked like the whole boat was leaning to starboard. Still plan on checking it out.

Is Poppins partner Hobo Shoestring?
I went on a in it
Poppins? What kind of a name is that!?
