    I do notice in some hybridized fish like the flowehorn and blood parrot, their intelligence seems quite marked. They've even show signs of affection and being playful with their human caregivers.

    We don't have a Flowerhorn. But our fishes can recognize us. The fish tank is in my son's bedroom he feeds them. But is me who changes the water cleans the tank, does aquascaping, adds more plants, etc. And my family already realized when I entered the room the fishes follow me around. They move to the closer side I'm staying, I never realized until my husband and my son pointed out last week. Dunno what is this maybe because I'm the one who chats with them? When I put the hand inside to adjust plants or move other items the fishes come close and start to swim around my fingers, allowing me to stoke them. Just like my cats who follow me all around the house and cannot leave a single minute alone nor to have a shower in peace. Thank god fishes can't move out of the tank!

    Six reasons to hate flower-horns
    1. They require massive aquariums
    2. They are so aggressive to a point where they can't be kept with any other fish.
    3. They are also so destructive to a point to where you can't even put gravel or even plants In the aquarium, otherwise they chew up the plants and carry the gravel to one corner of the aquarium.
    4. The cost of a flower horn is usually $100 minimum
    5. Frozen or live food is also a requirement
    6. Incredibly difficult to keep.
    Just get a Betta fish. They have amazing personalities, can be kept with tank-mates, are significantly smaller, aren't difficult to upkeep, and are far more beautiful in my opinion.

    Hey Bud! Need a quick amplification: I have added a new 4 inch flowerhorn 2 days back in a newly established tank and she seems stressed obviously. I need to know if it's ok to add aquarium salt to the tank and if yes how much exactly shall i add ? All the other parameters are perfect(watched all your videos before setting up a tank).People have a divided opinion if one should use a aquarium salt for fresh water fishes.Hence ,need your thought.
    PS - water is pristine,running a 264G/hr canister filter along with seachem line of products like stablity/prime/stress guard etc.

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never use salt. IMO, if your filter is doing good and your fish is healthy, there's no need. good water quality and various nutritious foods pretty much take care of everything, imo. I've kept oscars for over 8 years in the past. I've never used salt. they never got sick. only thing they got was external parasites from feeding live gold fish. that's why I never feed live gold fish.
      but some people live by them. it can prevent some diseases and help with digestion, they say.
      if your fh is healthy and doing fine, I don't see the point. but if you've kept your fish for, let's say, 6 months or more, and they get little ill there and there and recover, then it might be a good idea.
      I would always add less than recommended. around 10grams per gallon. but in the very beginning, I would do 5 grams per gallon, wait a week and see if things are doing good. then, I would up it to 10 grams. and during water change, only put the right amount of salt for the new water.

      Today's morning my newly acquired flowerhorn developed a cloudy eyes and it's color has been faded, his head has been shrunken along with a black stripes possible due to settling in a new environment.
      I just don't get if i have provided my fish with the best environment then why this is happening? Thanks a ton for a response though!

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      oh man. sorry to hear that. cloudy eyes, shrunken hump, black stripes - that combination means your fh's immune system is weak. the cause could be many things. maybe your water isn't cycled yet? then you gotta do a big water change. best way to go about it I think is do a big water change, then feed your fh nutritious foods. I guess salt would help in this case. or something like melafix. if your fh is still eating well, there's a chance that he might recover with just good water quality and nutritious foods.

    • @Zenith0000
      @Zenith0000 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey bud! My FH is dead. I tried everything from water changes to treatment with seachem paraguard and therapeutic high end aquarium salt but she stopped responding . Few aquarists suggested that I shouldn't have used a borewell water ,instead I should have used canned water or purified RO water .I am clueless where did I went wrong.? I am certain that my tank has been cycled properly since I have followed the seachem stability schedule. My FH was gorgeous;AAA grade SRD.let me know if I shall continue running the canister filter to keep the beneficial bacteria alive ? Also should I change the entire water with RO or canned water before introducing a new fish perhaps clown loaches and tetra or an another FH?
      PS- after adding salt , water TDS(measured with TDS meter) shows as "850-900 PPM" Any advice?

      sorry for your loss. I think only other fish owners can really understand the loss of our pet fish.
      well, for borewell water, my understanding is that b/c there's no buffers in the water, the ph could drop faster than normal tap water. I've always used tap water, so I'm not sure about other types of water. I think RO water has nearly the same effect. ro water is devoid of minerals and hardness, so ph could drop faster. fhs like a little higher ph than neutral.
      My understanding is that if you use well water, you gotta do more frequent water changes than using regular tap water. tap water has buffers that can hold ph longer.
      I guess if you use well water, you could go for fish that likes lower ph. yea, like tetras or clown loaches or discus...or go for another fh but do more frequent water changes. one thing that is very important when doing big water changes, especially for newly bought fish, or sick fish, is matching the temperature of the new water to your tank's water. if your tank's temps change 2~3°C after water change, that's a huge shock for your fh. big change in temps in a very short amount of time can lower the immune system, causing illness.
      b/c your fh had cloudy eyes, I would bomb the entire tank with antibacterial medicine for 3 days. then, do 100% water change. wait a few days and add fish.

    I wish I could pet my piranha but he does let me take a small net and gently scratch his belly sometimes
