I'm always surprised at how much money ppl are prepared to shell out for a wedding which lasts one day. Far more important to spend that money on your marriage which hopefully lasts a lifetime.

Painted brick! High maintenance, always looked dirty from rain splashes. Looks ok to begin, won’t stay like it for long.
Incredibly expensive to remove too. Why ruin the brick?
@@AllyCreative I agree. Changing the style of windows could have transformed the house beautifully alongside giving the red brick a good power-wash. Fresh red-brick facade with white thick-framed windows is always a very attractive combination.
A natural brick exterior offers timeless classic appeal & compliments any architectural style. Brick endures all types of weather & one of it's benefits is it doesn't need paint. Innitally fresh paint looks nice but the rough surface will attract dirt & mold. Maintaining the look will require pressure washing & repainting. Removing paint is a time consuming, expensive process & a residue usually remains within the textured crevices. To paint or not, is a matter of preference & up to the homeowners to decide. I hope they made an informed choice & not a hasty one. Beyond the painted exterior, the reno transformed the house into a modern showcase with charming traditional features.

Paul and Mimi are frustrating to watch. Talk about odd priorities, poor decisions, immature focus on aesthetics rather than function, etc. Barely have money for the build but they go on vacation. Have a black mold and moisture problem but they ignore it... They will regret that poor decision in the future.
A Photographer and a Stylist. Lord lov'em.

@@andreaandrea6716 Both clients from hell. NO common sense, too many opinions, can't commit, hell, the one couple can't even commit to be married. No way on Earth would I do any work for either. Photography and styling are far removed from building. These tradesmen are ALSO trying to make a living, no regard for anybody else. The old bitch with the beta husband gave a fraction, expect to be cared for for life, yet she was the QUEEN. BTW, that photographer's façade looked like shit, painted the brick but not the new brick?

Oddly, when I realised how idiotic they were I speculated that they would announce a holiday before things got started but even so, I nearly fell off my chair

And they were set to the same time zone! So there was a different reason, hmm... One of those 'fraternal orders' has members who wear two watches.
I would have kept the red brick and instead created the character by adding a couple of white thick-framed bay windows on ground level, with matching standard white thick-framed windows on first level. The red brick just needed a thorough pressure-wash. A clean red brick facade with white thick-framed windows is always an attractive and characterful combination. It looks like a badly finished diy job now.
I’m confused.... Paul and Mimi chose to ignore their moisture problem by not insulating?! Well, THAT won’t come back to haunt then I’m sure.😶

If you shut the door to the bathroom it wouldn't be visible from the front door. I'm sure the bathroom door was open to make the house look worse.
Might of been trying to get rid of the smell of a morning steamer before the camera crew came in .

I agree, it's a nice brick house. Could use some shutter upgrades and landscaping changes to make it prettier but it's absolutely not an ugly house at all.
It’s ugly compared to the village it’s in . New houses always tend to look rubbish when they are put up against unique older houses .

@@samoday2992 Seriously? It's a profession. (Like Architect. Notice there are millions of badly 'designed' houses, that architects were not consulted on. Same with photos. There are hundreds of millions of really bad photos). It IS a skilled profession. There are fashion photographers, journalistic photographers, Magazine lay-out design photogs, etc. etc.
@@andreaandrea6716 with today’s technology anyone with a camera/phone and even the slightest bit of technological know how can do that job . Maybe in years gone by it was worthwhile and a needed a skill.
The second couple are so immature with renovating their home. Especially not using isolation .

The pained house looks rediculous! ... The paint is orange/stained in loads of places.. And only the front it painted which looks terrible from the side.. I wouldn't say it increases the value! I hope they paint the rest asap!.. Although ignoring their moisture and mold issues and not insulating the outside was a terrible decision!
I lived without a kitchen for 4 months during a renovation with a 1 and 7 yr old. It was not a problem to cook healthy meals... With a microwave and fridge-freezer in the living room.... No "sandwiches and cupcakes"
The paint job is also poorly finished where the facade meets the ground. They lacked commitment.
You used the word decision on the wrong couple = they don't know how to make one!

They don't have money to build the house but they do have a money for holiday, i am really confused with this couple. Maybe they just wanted to be in a show.

I found a facebook page Mac1010 (the name of their boat) where they have some updates, with photos of the downstairs bedrooms. Unfortunately, it hasn't been updated since 2016.

I will never understand the appeal of contemporary European kitchens like the one in the multi-generational home.
Seems to me that multigenerational living is a first rate idea. First and foremost, living with your parents helps children learn how each one is different and how to work together and forgiveness goes a long way.
The older couple with visible mobility issues chose a tight bathroom floor plan. Not wise.
I would love to drag Sarah to a hair dresser and get that thatch cottage hair sorted out !

@@joannamallory2823 Goodness you cannot for one minute think that she is well groomed ? I pass on the clothes, each to their own but that hair, dry and split and badly coloured, she could do so much better. She is clever and pretty and energetic and knows her job but at least for camera she could look in a mirror. What I said doesn't take away from who and what she is.
@@TheFiown what I think and what I say do not always follow one another. I try to filter out the things that will unnecessarily hurt other people’s feelings. I’m not always successful ( I am human), but it’s easier when I have to type out the things I say…gives me time to reflect a bit. I’ll leave it there. 😉
@@joannamallory2823 Joanna I totally agree with you that here on YT is it very easy from our armchairs to sometimes write judgemental things and not take into consideration the hurt it can sometimes bring. I have in the past excused myself and retracted some statements when I was argued out of my position. Only an idiot would refuse to say sorry if the situation required it. I have followed Sarah Beeney often on YT and perhaps because of my 50 years working in fashion I do focus on her 'look'. That said my own 'look' these days would hardly bear scrutiny! It is said that if what you say will not arrange but derange then it should stay behind the lips! Thank you for your imput.

Not a fan of these featureless glossy cabinets, glossy backsplashes and glossy countertops. Every crump, splash and fingerprint shows.
I love most of the new designs, but some of these glossy kitchens lack the warmth I need in my home, not to mention the constant wiping fingerprints off every surface. I do love this show, getting so many ideas.
I would also think they would look dated quite quickly.
My sister bought herself glossy kitchen, it was a nightmare, she saved some money and changed just cabinets fronts. Lesson hard learned.

Shocked that "you can't render (over insulation)" is a totally false statement, even in the UK!!! Styrofoam insulation is glued & nailed over brick, then sanded rough plastered with fiber or wire mesh & final plaster. Writers & hosts are quite ignorant hope you edit out these false statements!!!
I am in a block which has been foam insulated and rendered and checked after grenfell the result fuel bills at least haved

The indecisive couple were very irritating and must have driven the builders crazy also, Imagine being on a tight budget and then booking a holiday - how crazy is that.? Furthermore their indecision about everything must have driven the builders crazy.
