      Rules That Will Help You Win Negotiations. ...
      Make sure there is a bargaining zone. ...
      Power = information + alternatives. ...
      Know the objectives of the other side. ...
      Be willing to enter a deal, be willing to walk away, and be perceived as both. ...
      Make the time. ...
      Give up "wants," take "needs" ...
      Be on their side.

    Great video. Several thoughts
    1. Plan your negotiation out in several step. For example, I will offer A then they will counter at B, then I will make a new offer at C with new terms and then they will offer D. See the negotiations as a chess match.
    2. Know the personality of the person you are negotiating with . Do they have patience to go several rounds, is money or some other term more important to them?
    3. How much time will you have in this negotiation? Are there backup offers?
    4. Try to be likable. If the other side hates you then you are at a big disadvantage.
    5. Be prepared to walk away from the deal. If you can't and the other side realizes this then they have leverage over you.
    6. If possible, try to negotiate directly with the other party. Using agents or brokers will never give you a good understanding of the other parties position.

    A critical principle of negotiation... "Win-Win or no deal!" ~ Stephen R Covey
    When I meet with a client, I always say, "If at some point in our conversation, you realize we're not a match and I can't meet your needs, feel free to let me know. And if I don't think I'm the right answer for you, I'll do the same!" Once the client knows you're willing to walk away if it's not a good deal for you, they negotiate differently!

    "When you have the power in the negotiation do not talk about it." - KILLER rule, I've seen how people have blown up different deals for not applying that. In a good negociation both know each position, capabilities and weaknesses. Usually after even tough negotiations both get into a better positionthan they were before.

    • @hashirmoghal
      @hashirmoghal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't understand this one, can you please explain?

    • @ArturoGarcia-zl7jw
      @ArturoGarcia-zl7jw 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@hashirmoghal Let's supose that you're a big enterprise getting into a deal with a smaller one for a service that you need that might give you certain advantage over your competitors. Both have something that the counterpart need, so, as a smaller enterprise, dont try to scare the bigger one telling them that if they dont accept your terms, you´re going with their competitors. If you´re the bigger one, don't tell the smaller one that you're bigger and could blast them off if needed. Both know it, and talking about their power will only cause big trouble and the desire of erasing each other from the map. It turns the negotiation into a confrontation, so it's better to be persuasive and get into the best agreement for both.

    Being a sourcer (I run and assess tenders), I agree with most of the things, but I would like to add something crucial, connected with the "Do your homework" (or be prepared) thing-know yours and of the opposite party competition. Because, in order to achieve some benefit, you have to have clear arguments. What is competition doing is a perfect one. We run quotations in order to create competition and learn what is best in the market. You even ask-how are you better than...who is selling (buying) at X price. By the way, I have asked in US discount for paying cash, but never got it.

    Lmao, I love the FMA reference. 1. Best anime ever created 2. Totally correct, you can't get anything without first giving something in return, it just won't work. Whether it's you're personal or professional life, you won't get where you want to be if you don't put in the work needed in order to get from Point A to Point B.

I then asked, Since credit card charges 3%, will you give me another 1% off by paying cash? They declined. Nonetheless taekwondo lessons are cheaper for me then everyone else. FYI they never had someone pay in advance or ask for a discount.

    #2 - Negotiate Everything - hmmmm...... that’s rather ridiculous, and it isn’t something rich people do. It’s a great sound bite for people who want to learn how to become wealthy, and certainly there are more things that are negotiable than people realize, and they would be wise to learn some of them. However, someone who wants to negotiate ‘everything” often comes out looking petty or stingy, and is looking for a “win/lose” result. Wisdom would say to sometimes appreciate those times where you already have a good deal, and be content to let the other party make a reasonable profit.

    all these negotiation techniques work only between groups of equal or similar levels of intelligence. what are you going to do when you are confronted with an intelligence of a higher rank or with an intelligence that is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipowerful? It reminds me of what Carl Sagan said in the "Pale Blue Dot:" "On it [ the earth, which appeared as a pale little blue dot in space ], everyone you ever heard of... The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam. ...
    Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot."

    Everytime I hear mirroring, I wish people would eliminate this technique. The second I notice it, which is pretty early on, I'm out. We're done.
    BTW. Never split the difference is amazing and completely changed my profesional and personal life.

    Take copious notes. The hell with the best alternative to a negotiated agreement, or BATNA.

      I added this comment before I listened to the whole video. It is 100% worth its weight in platinum. Alone, this video is worth the cost of production, so the value in here that's 100% FREE shows how much Alux values its community.
      Take full advantage, Aluxers. Negotiate EVERYTHING.
      RIN.

    I had a similar (though ultimately way more depressing) version of your RIN idea. I guess I'll have both in my head now
