Don't ever bother yourself about the naysayers - they're just having a bad day...or a bad life. I for one love seeing a bit of what it might be like to live on the wild west coast of Scotland. What weather! But what beauty! Thank you so much for your videos.

From hot South Africa.😢 Ancestors from England and Ireland. Would LOVE ❤to live there but at 70 years old I guess I will just be dug into this African soil when my time is up. ❤❤❤

Do as we do here in the South of the US, just say, or think, “Well, bless your heart!” And put them out of your mind. Live your life on your own terms! I think you and Scott are amazing!

Thank you so much for sharing your lives on the Isle. Many of my ancestors were from Scotland and through you I can better imagine what they saw and how they lived. It is a shame that people with such anger issues cannot seem to find similar enjoyment from your videos as you show peaceful waters, raging waters, dripping ferns, amazing pet sheep and your solutions to water and heating problems.
Loving your journey in your new adventure. Thank you for sharing with us. I dont know if this is any help but I follow quite a few people on you tube that have moved to abandoned stone homes in Portugal and they have patiently restoring stone walls with lime mortar. They are : The indie project, Cindy Vine Portugal,Project Portugal, and Frankie off grid and many more Best wishes
My favorite part was Kate in the orchard picking the "good fruit". Filled my heart with joy. With so much toxic fruit in the world, it is sometimes challenging to find the really good stuff. Thankfully, sometimes good fruit is shared freely. Thank you for continuing to share with us. 🍎❤

When I was a teen & first found the Bay City Rollers (1974), I looked at a map of Scotland and decided that I wanted to go to the Hebrides! I suppose it was off the beaten trail and would be beautiful…so many decades later I discover a couple of videos of people living there! What a delight, this western Canadian would still like to visit there, the ruggedness is absolutely beautiful. You have your work cut out and it’ll be a homey place to live. Thanks for bringing the Hebrides into my home❤
Just a quick addendum to one of my previous suggestions, sprinkle sand on the wooden boards while the silicone sealer is wet, to help make it gritty and therefore less slippy (ah the rhymes😉). Love from Annie, in Cornwall🙂🌸

I am so pleased for you that you are able to laugh in regards to a negative comment made. Personally, I find the negativity sad. As I am unable to travel any longer, I feel blessed that you and others are sharing your journey, allowing me the luxury to enjoy from the sidelines. I look forward to your posts. Wishing you many blessings. ❤
Beautiful scenery on vlog this week. Loved the raging burns and crashing waves in the sea , looks like you’ve had plenty of rain , never mind that’s what makes Scotland so beautiful 😊Look forward to seeing how your steps turn out when the grass takes and you’ve planted some flowers x
I'm sorry to hear you speak about some peoples negative comments. Some peoples journey in life are not as fulfilling as others. Just keep doing what you guys are doing. I am captivated by what you guys are achieving and slightly envious if I'm to be honest. The fact that I can't always catch up on a new episode every time one is released just means I can binge multiple episodes at once.👍
Have you thought about turning the Kitchen into the bedroom and then the kitchen can be moved into the main house. That way you don't have to have people traipsing through your bedroom to get to the bathroom or kitchen. Then you can insulate the bedroom to make it lovely and warm.
I've not heard the term 'bad fruit' before. It's a perfect description. Some people are rotten to the core. I absolutely love your channel and all the very best to you ❤ xxx
For the wood under the deck I have put corrugated tin on the underside of my deck with a slight angle towards the edge and it creates a roof/gutter to keep my spare lumber 🪵 dry, not perfect but it does work well.
I loved the idea for using chicken wire on the steps to reducing slipping. Life is all about learning something new each day. Seeing the trees changing colors there is about like here in Indiana USA....worring about the coming winter and freezing Temps for you folks and difficulty moving about. Stay safe
I am loving not only these video's, but also, the dream the two of you are trying to achieve. As with any similar endevour, opened up to the public as you are doing, there will always be some people who will, for whatever reasons, find something negative to focus on. Ignore them and keep reaching for your dreams. Good luck to you both.

Irish here and loving your journey and Scotland reminds me so much of the Irish countryside. Had to laugh when I saw you gathering the apples into your skirt. That is also what we did as children. Happy, carefree times. I wish you all the best on your quest for a more simple, more gratifying life. You have chosen a beautiful place and, Katie, I love your soft Scottish accent. So melodious. Also, it struck me that during the dark, winter days, when you maybe have a few hours adrift, would you not consider writing a book. You have a poetic way with words. Something historical, perhaps?

Hi Both, I just wanted to say thank you for keeping us entertained with your journey. We (my wife and I) found your channel last weekend and have been watching 2-3 episodes a night, cosying up in front of a log fire watching your efforts. I am sure many have already suggested this to you, but you should consider offering things like calendars which capture all those beautiful views you have around the island. There is also the shot outside your front door, I would definitely have that picture on our lounge wall as a large picture printed on canvas or something. Finally, just to say you will not go wrong with Starlink. I have been using it since it first launched in the UK. I work from home and live in a rural area in England. The phone line broadband was not up to the job, but starlink has been exceptional. I can take part in meetings all day, whilst my kids play on their games consoles and stream movies at the same time. Just added to your fund via Ko-Fi to say thanks for entertaining`us. keep up the good work. John

Hello, I’ve been enjoying your videos from Florida, USA. In regards to the wood storage under the deck, if it was me, I would just build a nice wood shed and not waste time and money trying to keep a wet area dry. Just a thought! Be well
That's unfortunate that they can't restore this once beauty of the McDonald castle ❤. Your steps that you are clearing and replacing it with pre watered turf is going to look beautiful with your pretty garden. Katie you remind me of a beautiful porcelain doll. And your husband is quiet youthful. First time I've seen you up close than usual. Thank you I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I love watching your restorations. Take care ❤
❤️Another beautiful video from my favorite couple. I am sorry someone was negative. You have graciously opened your lives to the world and unfortunately the negative people will comment. Please don’t let it bother you. Just look at the hundreds of wonderful comments you received. And so many people are giving you some good advice and offering help. The donations are so you can continue to share with us. People would not donate if they did not want to. I can’t wait to see the Fall colors of your isle. I never subscribe to any channel. But I made an exception for you and subscribed. See you next time. ❤️
Thank you for these kind sentiments. We're amazed at how well-received the wee vids have been! And it's fantastic having so many brains all contributing and offering great advice, suggesting remedies we'd never have thought of! What a fab community this is. We're glad to have you. Kx
Well, Katy, after seeing this slightly chilly vlog I am recommending flannel petticoats for winter. Longer skirts too would also hide leggings. Also, Very thick wool rugs for your feet coming from the bed! Have fun, regards Susan from Hobart.
I’m sorry to hear that someone felt the need to be facetious. Some people can just be so cruel. I have experienced some people like that over my life and unfortunately will again I’m sure. I try not to let mean spirited words get to me but sometimes they still do. Keep your head up and rise above it all with dignity and grace. Bless you both and thank you for sharing your journey.
Wow a beautiful castle and the story is really sad to hear. The rain has really brought the extra water and so beautiful running over the rocks. The rain has really brought out the colors of the landscape. I made applesauce last night. The orchard is beautiful and so nice to have. 🤗🤗
Hello from British Columbia Canada! Having lived in a wet cold climate my entire life we have developed ideas to solving challenges with heating primarily with wood. We live in very rugged country, and the only way to keep wood nice and dry and out of the weather is in its own wood shed. I can see you are planning too keep it underneath the shed, however ducking under there every day on your knees stacking, hauling, organizing it to maximize space, then yarding it out when you need some is going to kill your back sooner or later. A nice dry wood shed on pallets closer to the living quarters with a slopped roof for water run off on the down hill. It needs air flow to dry out green wood and prevent rot of dry wood. Our wood shed was pretty big, (10' x 10' x 12') but so were our trees. I did not chop wood with an axe, I used a maul or wedges and a hammer. Axes were for kindling only. i know you are on a limited budget but you may be able to source out free pallets and or wood on the internet as I feel heating is a priority. Please don't take this as a criticism, I love your channel. Just sharing ideas. PS the landscape is very much like the BC coast (in places) but its boring here with no ruined castles to explore.
We will definitely look at building something else, we're just working with what we have for imminent use right now! I've been to BC, and you're right, the landscape is similar. Vancouver Island especially with those giant redwoods. Kx
I love when you take your walks and discover so many treasures on the island, like that ruin building for one, you mentioned may have been a guard chamber, etc. the history is so fascinating and the island is geographically stunning. thanks for sharing it with us
I'm excited to see ehat comes next. 🎉 I sometimes have a hard time telling what is on and off the island. If y'all could find some way of visually showinf when you're off island that would be great. I love watching your videos. I have Scottish heritage and want to visit someday. This is such a lovely way for me to start learning about Scotland. Thank you both for sharing your adventures
Thank you. I hope you do get the chance to visit sometime! I think it's safe to say, nine times out of ten, if we're showing an old ruin/castle/bridge/etc, we're over on the mainland, as there's very little on the island apart from the natural landscape. Kx
I just recently found your channel and I have to say this was a particularly beautiful video and I enjoyed it immensely. Seeing the power in the water, the waves - it must make you feel so energized. My husband and I visited Scotland several years ago and we were mostly inland, but I loved it and I wish we could get back for a longer visit. I am amazed at what you have taken on and impressed with your patience and determination. I can't wait to see what else you will be sharing with us, in the future. Fantastic!
Love your videos!…it’s so relaxing and I enjoy everyone of them…the view from the castle and ocean were stunning….keep sharing your journey on the island…can’t wait to see what projects you’ll be working on next….from Shelton Washington…USA
When I saw the 3 plate of food I thought a plate for a visitor! Wonder who is dropping by, 😅 hmm. And another jumped to the conclusion 'you can afford lamb'... You made something different. From childhood memories. Leftover shepherds pie monday. Cold meat, chowchow & refried taties tuesday. Sammies for lunch wednesday and possibly barley soup for tea. Thats where you boil the bone. Amazing what a leg of lamb recalled. As for this week's post. Loved it. Thanks so much for including us all in your adventures. Blessings and stay free. ❤ > 🇳🇿
@@TheScottishIsle I just saw it, how lovely of you. Hope you guys are safe with all the storms and rain, I'm in Wales but the weather can't make it's mind up.
I loved this episode and I’ve learnt such a lot from watching TH-cam channels. I was really excited to discover that you have an orchard. I’ve had an allotment for two years now and this year I’ve also started pressure canning, which is a bit of an investment to start off with but offers the possibility of saving any food you grow for the winter. I absolutely love growing veg and fruit. At home I have an incredibly small space and grow a multitude of fruits which we enjoy throughout the year, on porridge etc etc. I know that you have more pressing things to sort at the moment but if you are interested it’s something worth bearing in mind for the future. I’m growing a wet area of NW England, all wet is relative. Not as wet as your area!
Just watching episode 15 from the hunter valley in NSW Australia where you are making Stovie. I love making Stovie for my Scottish husband It is the most wonderful meal Just love it and it better as leftover stovie the next day .yummy yummy Now I will have to buy a leg of lamb for Sunday Tea so we can have Stovie Monday & Tuesday 💙🏴🤍 ❤️🇦🇺💙🤍
Thanks for giving us a sense of what fall is like in Scotland! I imagine you eating warm apple pie looking out your window towards the bay. 😊 Loved the shots of the old castle and the coast. Were those shells being blown by the wind? Or small rocks? It’s amazing how mighty that wind whips. As for the naysayers, it’s hard sometimes to let those negative comments roll off, but hopefully the overwhelming positive response helps temper those. I call you my “Scottish friends” when I recap your videos to my wife. You are like virtual neighbors. Cheers and keep on keeping on!
That was foam, being cast up from the crashing waves! You'll get to see more of autumn, it becomes even more ginger... Thanks for your words, it's great to have this wee community! Kx

Hello, I’ve been enjoying your videos from Florida, USA. In regards to the wood storage under the deck, if it was me, I would just build a nice wood shed and not waste time and money trying to keep a wet area dry. Just a thought! Be well
Love your videos. Takes me out of london for a while
That's exactly what we hope, Linda. Thank you.
What glorious footage you are providing! Many thanks!
I think the toilet of the ancient castle is amazing and funny at the same time. Thank you for sharing!
Take care ❤
Sorry, people are so negative. We love looking forward to your podcast. I’m going over to join Patreon now.
Wow, thank you Katrina. I'll send you a message on there! Kx
Enjoyable as always - keep them coming 🙂
We will!
Kx
Love what you are doing
Guys...please be safe....with all the rains coming down. Please be safe out there!!!
Well, Katy, after seeing this slightly chilly vlog I am recommending flannel petticoats for winter. Longer skirts too would also hide leggings. Also, Very thick wool rugs for your feet coming from the bed! Have fun, regards Susan from Hobart.
Oh, yes! It's all about layers, my friend!
Thanks, Glenda. Kx
Wow a beautiful castle and the story is really sad to hear. The rain has really brought the extra water and so beautiful running over the rocks. The rain has really brought out the colors of the landscape. I made applesauce last night. The orchard is beautiful and so nice to have. 🤗🤗
I just can’t get enough of you guys. You are doing a wonderful job. And such a pleasure to watch
Beautiful landscapes. And who knew Sheep were kind of like dogs.
Beautiful area. We spent 2 weeks traveling the Isles in September.
I always enjoy your videos 💜
Kx
The most beautiful Island special memories❤
I love when you take your walks and discover so many treasures on the island, like that ruin building for one, you mentioned may have been a guard chamber, etc. the history is so fascinating and the island is geographically stunning. thanks for sharing it with us
I'm excited to see ehat comes next. 🎉
I sometimes have a hard time telling what is on and off the island.
Kx
Fresh off the tree apples ! We just had a last season's apple at lunch. Ugh. I bet your apple pie was amazing. Great video. Thank you.
Fantastic!
You're absolutely right about the water, it does replenish you in a way. Thanks for your encouragement!
Love your videos!…it’s so relaxing and I enjoy everyone of them…the view from the castle and ocean were stunning….keep sharing your journey on the island…can’t wait to see what projects you’ll be working on next….from Shelton Washington…USA
A plastic kid's sled is nice for hauling things. Apples get heavy after picking for a while. (edited spelling for sled)
Thrifty cooking is absolutely the way forward! Thanks for watching. Kx
Little donnation sent for your star link fund. Great video.
Nicky, I just sent you a wee thank you on there! 😘
@@TheScottishIsle I just saw it, how lovely of you. Hope you guys are safe with all the storms and rain, I'm in Wales but the weather can't make it's mind up.
That Celtic weather eh..?!
Such a pretty island.
I love making Stovie for my Scottish husband
It is the most wonderful meal
Just love it and it better as leftover stovie the next day .yummy yummy
Now I will have to buy a leg of lamb for Sunday Tea so we can have Stovie Monday & Tuesday 💙🏴🤍 ❤️🇦🇺💙🤍
Kx
I would be all about gathering the apples for apple juice and vinegar and jelly and pie filling.
