  • In the ever growing landscape of 3-row utility vehicles, the Toyota Sequoia often gets lost in the shuffle. But, Toyota is making it harder for that to happen, giving it a TRD treatment sure to make it stand out in any carpool lane, and maybe even at the off-road park too.

      @Uz 33 No. Because any fuel and or emissions saved by driving a Prius is easily off set by the amount of resources that goes into producing it. It's a lady's handbag of a car, only useful for bolstering the owners self righteousness.

    I'm gonna say it now.
    Given this platform is from 2008, it's bound to be due for a refresh very soon (2022, is it?), thus making this generation TRD very low in production numbers.
    This will end up being the next FJ40, Wagoneer, or Syclone/Typhoon in terms of being wildly sought after in 25-30 years. If only I had the scratch to buy one of these TRDs...

    Let me get this straight. Put on some badges, black out a few exterior parts, add fake bypass shocks and justify 65k for a 12 year old truck? We can disregard the fact it’s one of the ugliest vehicles Toyota has ever built but thats purely subjective. If you just have to have the magic Toyota pixie dust that keeps these running forever, your money would be better spent on a 5 year old version at roughly 1/4 the cost. It’s nearly identical to a 2020.

      Well, we have 52 episodes per year of road tests to fill and we hadn't tested the Sequoia in about 12 years. After the last few refreshes and now the TRD Pro version, it was time to test it again. Let us know what vehicles we haven't tested yet.

    • @MercOne
      @MercOne 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Motorweek Sure, but that only proves my point it's basically the same vehicle it was 12 years ago. So I totally disagree with that. Nothing has fundamentally changed with the Sequoia. With so many new vehicles out there I don't see how in the world something so old and irrelevant warranted a new test. Anyways, sure. The 2021: TLX, IS350, Alpina XB7, E-Class, 5-Series, Genesis G80, GV80, RR Velar V8, Defender, Rolls Ghost, Audi RS7, RS6 Avant, BMW 4-Series, Ferrari Roma, Audi SQ8/RS Q8, Ram TRX, AM Vantage, Cadillac CT4/CT5 and many others. All of these warrant a look before a Sequoia that is still running the same engine, chassis and interior from 2008 IMO.

    • @Motorweek
      @Motorweek  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We get that but we have either already tested or are scheduled to test most of what you've listed soon. They just haven't aired yet. As we mentioned before, we have 52 new episodes per year. That means sometimes it might take a few weeks to a few months after we have a vehicle in for testing for it to make it on the show. That is pretty normal for us as we are constantly testing new cars. And between delays from automakers and limited amounts of press vehicles due to the pandemic, we are testing new cars as soon as we are able. Don't worry, we will get to everything.

Not sure what you're looking at. They have enough space to test a wide variety of cars, that isn't the issue here, but they don't have enough space (IMO) to waste it on a relic from 2008 when there are dozens of new cars out there, regardless of their price.

I'm not a fan of Toyota or any of the imports for that matter but if I was this would be the one I would consider. The Durango and Grand Cherokee designs have been around since 2011. Toyota needs to update the interiors and cameras to todays standards, love the quality and reliability of Toyota thats were they shine
    but a lot of interiors design features including low Res cameras, dials touch screen/buttons on all TRDs. . . Pro's, weather Tacomas, Tundras, or even the Sequoias, Supras, etc are dated to todays capabilities, especially when they tack on 5k-10k per model/year.
    Hey Toyota get that up to speed and you could be perfect. just my 2 cents.

    Toyota has been coasting for too long. The Land Cruiser, 4runner, and Sequoia have all been in their current generation for over a decade. And the Land Cruiser is especially unforgivable because of how much it cost, and the fact that it serves no purpose at that price range when the Lexus alternative doesn't cost that much more.
    They need to get rid of the Land Cruiser, and only sell the Lexus version

    Worth every penny! If you adhere to a regular maintenance schedule. In particular, (change your fluids; Full Synthetic: differential, transfer case, and transmission, every 30k miles, your Oil; Full Synthetic, every 5k miles, and Radiator Collant every two years) that Sequoia will easily last 500k miles with relatively little trouble. Also, change your radiator and gas cap every two years. They will cause problems if you don't.

      I got a white Sequoia trd pro because it is outdated. I don't care for any of the newly styled full size SUVs. Also they just keep adding more and more gimmicky tech crap to them that I don't need amd most people have no idea how to use. As for the hard plastics on the inside, I love it. Everyone these days has to have soft touch everything. Why? It doesn't hold up. I've had 2 luxury cars in a row with soft touch bs inside the car and they scratch easy, discolor, and are hard to clean without scuffing them. I'll take my old ass, hard touch plastics, too small of a nav screen, outdated, fuel guzzling dinosaur with me and be perfectly content. This is why the 4runner sells so well even to this day.

    As someone who is leasing a 2018 Sequoia, I can tell you that I would never purchase one. The lease is heavily subsidized by Toyota and the suv is worth nowhere near the 60k on my window sticker. My interior is full of hard plastics and cheap materials. I bought it because the lease deal was spectacular compared to anything else in the class. However, Toyota name doesn’t ensure reliability. I have a leaking rear differential, a ticking engine that Toyota acknowledges but refuses to fix, and they have replaced the a/c twice. The upside is that I currently have equity in the vehicle and I’ll make about 2000 when my lease is up.
