- My name is Penelope, my friends call me Pen and chinwag is just that a chat about my last couple of weeks. This week I'm looking back as it's three years since my first episode. In 2021 my friend Heather listened to me trying to think of a channel name and then listened to me saying no one will want to watch! She wrote a couple of poems and I read them this week. I am also reading 'My story' and making a little something to go with. Pete has another Desert Island Disc he has remembered. Gene Kelly from Singing in the Rain and there is a short film from my walks to the sea with friend Frances who came to stay this week. Take care xx

Hello Pene, really enjoyed your video. Never be in doubt that people want to watch your blogs, its like a friend popping by for a chat. You never know when they will turn up, but you are so pleased to see them. I love hearing about your childhood and it brought back memories of washday when I was small. Mum had a boiler and all whites had to be boiled, as well as my younger sisters nappies. Dangerous places these wash houses, but we helped when we could. Happy days. Pene, you have taught me such a lot while you were quilting, knitting, sewing and how to make a macaron. I even told Tilley she wouldn't exist if it wasn't for you. I've learnt such wonderful fascinating facts, and marvelled at your garden. Petes disc choices are favourites from the past, and stir delightful memories. A big thank you Pene for all the effort you put in to make these friendly, delightful videos. I really do appreciate it, and I do hope you carry on, even if you take longer between blogs. Take care and happy crafting.
Of course I have to keep going if not for the viewers but for Tilley - she owes her existence to my crowd. So pleased your memories are tweaked as well. xx
Oh please don’t give up making your delightful videos, they make my day, it’s like having a cup of tea and chatting to an old friend. As for Pete popping in to tell you about his raspberries and blocked pipe, don’t stop him, it makes it so natural and we all love Pete too x

I hope you never stop doing your chinwags. I have been watching and barracking for you from your first episode, and can truthfully say in many little ways you have enriched my life with your talents and life experiences . This vlog I particularly enjoyed Pete’s and your memory of his good Dad. What a lovely memory. Your fair isle knitting is beautiful and with or without sleeves it will be lovely.😊

Love your videos. I’m from America and I like to hear you speak and love the phrases you use. I also wear a Sea Salt dress that is like your’s. I feel very British. You and Pete are charming and remind me of things that should be and often are not. Keep up the Chinwag, it’s very healthy for us Americans to hear.

Oh Pene, those poems where brilliant. I've been here right from the beginning and remember it so well. Your story brought back lots of memories for me, my uniform was brown and gold too. Dear Pene, I can only speak for myself, but what you consider your everyday life, is in fact super uplifting! To see you living your life to the full, delighting in your crafts and your wonderful family is putting more value into the world than you may ever truly appreciate! I can understand your feelings though as I always wonder what on earth I am doing too. It takes courage to have what can feel like a one way conversation into the ether, unsure if anyone will want to hear it. I’m so glad you do though and here’s to many more chinwags! Xx

The jumper looks beautiful! I knew that colorful skein was really going to be fantastic as the colorwork. I would do the sleeves, but then I live where it gets very cold so I need them.

Hi Pene. It always makes my day when chinwag pops up. Love all your mousie makes. Your jumper is beautiful, too. The yarn for your friends' shawl is very pretty. I've got 2 shawls on the go. One is crochet and yak silk. The other is knitted and merino silk. Both are working up beautifully.

Hello Pene! Please please please please PLEASE don't stop Chinwag! If there was just one podcast I could watch, it would be yours. You are talented, artistic, intelligent, interesting, and fun. My life is better for having found you. You've introduced books, knit patterns, quilting fabrics, stitching podcasts and myriad interesting facts into my life. I do a happy dance when your episodes appear (truly!), and my husband and grandson both want to join in watching you, Pete, and the rest of those in your life. I always want to comment after each podcast, but don't want to toss too many "marshmallows" lest you don't believe me!😉 Regarding your question of sleeves/no sleeves, your sweater would be lovely either way. In some ways, it would be more versatile with short sleeves and perhaps wearable through more seasons. Yet the detail on the longer sleeves would be so pretty, and elevate the sweater to a different level. The fabric looks so lovely, soft and drapey! Well done on the colorwork. It looks perfect on screen. Okay. Enough marshmallows, again! Will continue through your earlier episodes as we await your next one. Happy summer to you and yours. Hello Penny, this was such a lovely episode I both laughed and cried, because of the funny story of you getting lost from each other ,and Pete telling about his dad singing “you were meant for me”,that was something for me to remember, that song. Pete’s dad must have been a wonderful man, not being embarrassed about singing that song to his little boy. That to me, was just a lovely thing to do. You remember that don't you - the day we lost each other crossing the road! You're right about not being embarrassed. Peter was so surprised he was probably seven or eight. We both did have a lovely early start in life. xx

Loved todays vlog Pen….well I love them all but the poems today were just delightful.….Mainly because I love to write poetry too, although havent done any recently. You should never have doubted yourself as your vlogs are always so interesting. Your ‘story’ brought back so many memories for me too….my mum washing and putting the sheets through the mangle…(not sure if that’s the right spelling), but I too, never wanted to go back to school after dinner time…wishing I could stay very close to her. Pene, I haven’t watched it all yet - I had to stop and with love tell you of my warm and happy tears. Heather is a wonderful wordsmith. She made me laugh and cry. Hurrah! It's Chinwag day!!! If someone were to tell me I could subscribe to only one vlog, it would be yours. I arrived here moaning about my self-inflicted back pain, and immediately felt better. The poems and toilet story had me smiling, memories from your childhood and Pete's warmed my heart, and your gorgeous new sweater had me picking up my latest sock project. Words cannot express how much your work in putting all that together is appreciated!!! ❤

Such precious memories! Our next door neighbour had an outside toilet with a wooden plank to sit on. We were posh & had an outside toilet with a wooden seat ! Dad used to light a paraffin lamp in there to stop the water freezing in winter. It was a terrifying run in the night if needed. Now I have 4 inside toilets in my house, how times change !!
Sorry Pene, but you have not pronounced your phonics correctly. Not your intention I know , perhaps it was the way we were taught !

Oh nothing to forgive I just didn't quite understand what it meant. Thinking, was it a, short A and b said with lips and not A B C. Mmh interesting. Thats the way I was taught ABC not abc. If you understand me!
Your lovely chinwag today has prompted childhood memories of my own - of my Dad singing to me (“These boots were made for walking…”) and of the large, cold room, in my childhood home, that contained only an old-fashioned toilet and a cupboard under the stone sink that was thick with cobwebs! 😂 Isn’t it funny how these memories pop up when we least expect them?! I thoroughly enjoyed your look back, thank you Pene.

I do feel the same way about recording my videos. I have been doing them for 4 years. I don’t have many followers but I enjoy recording for my mom who will be 99 in November!!

I was given such good advice from Anita of Gaga Knits. at the beginning she said it's not about subscribers it's about the joy people have in viewing and doing your videos for your mum makes it all worthwhile.

“Hooray, it’s Chinwag day!” That is exactly how I feel when I see each episode appear. It reminds me of the feeling of discovering a letter in the mailbox (back when that was done more often) and knowing a friend sat down and took the time to write and catch me up on events and share some thoughts. Don’t worry about the exact day you upload the next episode. I’ll be so happy to see it appear and know that you took the time to catch us up and share more interesting thoughts. Like letters from a friend, your videos are always welcomed and enjoyed every time they appear!
Someone asked if you were on Ravelry. If you ever consider it, we could have a “Chinwag” group and share pictures of our projects. Your knitting is beautiful and the sweater (you would say “jumper”) you showed today has such perfectly stitched color work (colour work). It’s also fun to see your socks, scarves and animals - everything you knit! Ravelry is a great source of patterns (to purchase digitally or even free). It is a way to see result pictures of those patterns knitted - how it was knitted by others and what yarns were used. It can be like a journal to keep up with projects and all the details of the yarn and needles and any changes made to the patterns. You can be a very private member and not share information to reveal who you are or even reply to messages. It’s just a personal choice. By the way, I enjoyed knitting the helical socks so much that I made a second pair.

What beautiful poetry, some of it resonated with me, I always doubt myself and never know if anything I make is good enough! Luckily I too have a best friend who supports me alot. Your memories and Petes were so good to hear. I remember helping in the wash house helping put sheets through the huge rollers, we also had our baths there. At the moment I am making a small quilt using scraps and some embroidered images for my grand daughter. Also love the smell of Meadosweet. Those gulls can be determined.😅

I’ve enjoyed each and every episode I’ve watched, still catching up on previous ones, and really appreciate all of your efforts in making these videos. I can’t even begin to imagine how many hours go into it. You and I are the same vintage, and have had similar life paths but I grew up and still live in California. Im always interested in what you’ve been up to and am also thrilled to see that your husband has continued to improve these past months. If you are able to continue with these episodes, I know that I’ll appreciate and enjoy them. However, it’s up to you to decide what you feel you’re up for.
