Two skools of thought. Flip yer steak 🥩 once. After say 2 minutes. Or 3 depending how you like em.
Other skool says flip every 30 seconds. Till cooked how yer like.

They look delicious, that's the way I like mine. I noticed the simmer ring of your trangia style stove is broken, the simmer ring is a great piece of kit for regulating the amount of heat transferring to pan, let's you fine tune your cooking as you would by turning heat up or down on cooker at home. Respect lad for raising awareness to Men's mental health. I watched @oscaroutdoors steak video last night. There are lots of men out there putting on brave faces to partners, family, friends and work colleagues while, all the time, they are suffering in silence with their problems. If even one lad was to seek help after watching your video, that would be one less dealing with problems on his own. It's okay to talk about problems, whether it be with a professional or a mate, rather than bottling matters up. Another great video lad, keep up the great work 👍

Simmer ring things borderline useless it's stiff as anything and a generally great big ball ache to adjust it when your cooking with it. My genuine trangia is anyway, tried bending it up a little so less resistance to no avail.

How much alcohol would you say you use on an average day? My biggest concern when doing research is that is requires much more fuel/alcohol than propane/butane stoves.

  • @chrishamilton2527
    @chrishamilton2527 ปีที่แล้ว

I switched from my Trangia to a Des Cattys alcohol stove. It won’t be as durable but it is very light weight and very economical on fuel. I use ethanol as fuel but if I use parrafin I add 10% water to reduce sooting.
My firebox nano also burns really well with twigs but does require constant attention.

I know what you mean by people not dousing there fire, so that its out before they leave. Give people a bad name who do do it properly.
It can also cause major bush fires. Not very cleaver.
I lke the little stove dear little thing. You can use all types of liquid fuel, meths a nd white spirit smoke a bit and are getting expensive.
These days i tend to use, fire dragon bio etheline come in litre bottle. Its pretty good.. i use a trangia.
I have just got a kelly kettle, not tried it yet but will over christmass new year holiday just to try it out.

The fat is what gives meat it's flavor. Pure meat protein is tasteless, much like Tofu.
When you look for a steak with good marbling, the marbling is just fat traces through the meat.
I have often cut large roast, but tied a slab of fat around one side of the roast. Gives it flavor and makes it moist.
For fillets, in the USA they are so lean that they are often wrapped with fatty bacon around the steaks.
I like my steaks grilled medium.

    My way of seasoning:
    Lemon juice
    Melted butter
    Oregano
    Liquefied garlic
    Salt
    Pepper
Pierce the steak on both sides many times with a fork.
Rub the mixture hard into the pores made with the fork.
Everyone share their way of seasoning. Just no off the shelf like A1 or something. LOL

I am not able to get the meth fuel you have here in my part of the US inless I order online and pay a crap ton for shipping. Denatured alcohol is the most common fuel here. We also use 91% isoptopol (rubbing) alcohol, Heet brand gasoline additive in the yellow bottle or similar fuels. I hzve tested fingernail polish remover with acetone in my alcohol stove and it worked

You put some meths round the edge to quicken the warming process of the stove, the sooner it warms up the faster it'll bloom.... applies to any meths stove not just the silver one...
another thing...........the heat of the stoves centre in the middle of the pan, I've been figuring a way to spread the heat out more evenly to stop hot spots in the centre of the pans.. I came across a vid of a fella using a cermanic gauze benieth the pan... I recon that should do the job.. amazon ceramic gauze.. been meaning to get some to try it out...

Methanol and methyl hydrate are the go-to for me, ethanol and paraffin way too sooty for me. Find it at any corner garage, no fumes.
Keep track of that nearly invisible methanol flame though and don't make too much skin contact with it.
I use an Altoids tin/perlite with variable openings in the lid tin for flame adjustment.
The tin fits perfectly inside one of those older Esbit folding pot stands. Carry 2 in a little case
Really love those little collapsible stainless stove stands you're using, oh and your paprika choices for steak too.👍

Sort of😂 after a fashion, the Trangia clone would have bloomed, boiled the water for your coffee and heated the water for the washing up by the time the TomShoo finally got its act together lol! The idea of adding a bit of meths to the outside of the TomShoo can also be used on the clone, or any Trangia type burner, especially in cold weather to promote the full bloom. Looking forward to the boil test👍

No heavy cans, cheap, everywhere available and works in freezing temperatures.

Your getting better with your spirit burners, you should of just used your simmer ring on the Trangia to cut the heat down whilst cooking your steak, that’s the good thing about them, plenty of power to boil, (now there’s a thought, boil test)And a simmer ring to cook your steak nice and steady. We already know which one would win the boil test, tenner on the Trangia 👍👍👍

Glyn Burden... Same thing here , I was wondering why in the world he did not use the simmering ring on the Trangia knockoff. It is a ideal way to control the fire when cooking anything. It's the handiest part of the Trangia.

If you do, remember the distance from the burner to the boiling container must be exactly the same on both 😉

Bioethanol works better for me. Seems to boil faster and leave less soot Also thing to note with Trangia burners is the gap from burner to pot. Lots of stove position the burner too far away. My favourite is Ttrangias Triangle
