You are so right! I've played many pianos, but old American pianos are next level! There is an old opera house that was turned into a restaurant by my weekend house, and they had a Chickering piano from around 1930s, and I could've lived on that. Even though its out of tune and a little run down, there is something so special about it. Such a shame pianos aren't like that anymore.
Totally agree Dane! Old American pianos are great & so special, especially the ones that were made during the golden era like the Chickering piano you played.
En Pointe. I have a 1930 Knabe 5’6” grand. It has such full beautiful choral sound in the midrange, and bright clear crisp highs without being shrill. The bass is full and rich, and the soundboard resonates forever.
Knab, Mason and Hamlin, and Chickering were the greatest of American-made pianos. I am lucky to have a Knabe in my home!

American Piano Company owned Knabe before Aeolian.
