  • While it’s got a relatively straightforward job of keeping your exhaust noise in check, there are a ton of factors to consider when shopping for the best muffler for your car, truck, or SUV. Sure, an impressive engine growl is awesome, but it may also have to be easy for you (and your neighbors) to live with if you’ve got a daily driver. More importantly, fitment and construction play a huge role too-particularly if you've got a compact sports car or live in an area that salts its roads in winter.
In this quick video, we boil down the process of choosing the best muffler down to three essential steps. Along the way, we explain how mufflers work, and talk through some basic muffler flow and noise cancelling technologies so you can pick the best performance muffler (and exhaust sound) for your ride.

In my opinion, Borla has the best sound. Their exhaust systems produce a harmonious and captivating tone that enhances the driving experience. The balance between aggression and elegance, along with their high-quality materials and engineering, makes Borla stand out as the epitome of automotive auditory bliss.

Agree if you leave the stock exhaust manifolds on. My s-type cat back sounded great until I added a set of Kooks headers. Sounds like crap now!

Are dual outlet mufflers mandatory if the stock car has quad tips? Deciding on a type of borla muffler now for a g80 sport

The "glasspack" shown in the cutaway view is not a glasspack. That's a cherry bomb M-80 and not only do those not have any fiberglass or steel wool in them, they are even advertised on both Summit Racing's and Cherry Bomb's websites as single-chamber mufflers. Some people even say they're more like tiny two-chamber mufflers but that's besides the point. Keep in mind, the M-80 looks the same as some glasspack style mufflers on the outside but the internals are very different, hence the small Cherry Bomb muffler on the table in front of the glasspack box looking the exact same.

Excellent work Justin. Many manufacturers like Borla, Flowmaster, MagnaFlow, etc..have great TH-cam channels with examples of how their products sound.
I've been a turbo style guy for years.

See an anthropologist has to make a deduction from knowledge despite time making it very difficult to do so. What was this? A weapon? Perhaps a musical instrument of some sort, sort of really interesting 🎸

Performance is actually silent, as in electric. No ICE will compete with Tesla/Mustang E so if you want to go fast, go E.

Any tips on dummy o2 sensors? For example how to keep best performance with them / should I just plug the wires with a dummy and tie it up or put a threaded hole in the new pipe? I know the dummy is just a resistor but i want to do it right one time I don't like needing muffler shop work. Also how do you keep freaking birds out of the exhaust? There such thing as a bird proof little cover ? Birds terrorize me i swear it's a serious question. I hate small birds. Flying rats.
