This song and group are legendary! If you go to a black cookout, wedding , anything, and if the crowd is a little older, like middle aged, you best believe this song is gonna be played, and don’t let no line dance break out…bay bee 😂

Rob Squad. I don't know if y'all have heard, but Frankie Beverly passed away yesterday (Tuesday, September 10, 2024). He was 77. Maze was still touring this year, although most of the members on the records were not involved. The band hasn't released an album since the early 1990s, but continued to perform.

Frankie Beverly's voice is so so smooth.

The story goes that Marvin Gaye’s wife saw them perform at a club and suggested he check them out. He loved them as well and became their mentor. It was Mr. Gaye who encouraged them to drop the name Raw Soul. One of the band members came up with Maze.

Frankie, Beverly and Maze. Now they have some great music. I saw them in concert here in Illinois back in the day. Amazing! And it's amazing how Frankie Beverly sounds the same live as he does on his records. You got to check out the other two favorites of mine. "Golden Time of the Day" and "Happy Feelings" When Golden Time of the day plays, you can close your eyes. Feel the warm breeze blowing and you can see the sky turn into a beautiful golden color. I remember mentioning to someone I was dating, who happened to be African-American, how much I loved Frankie Beverly and Maze. Frankie Beverly's voice is gorgeous. This person couldn't believe that a white woman would know them so I started rattling off songs like this one, "Can't Get Over You", "Joy and Pain", "Silky Soul", etc. I was believed after that. LOL. Any of those songs are other great ones to check out.

Wow. I haven't heard this song in decades. Maze had a TON of R&B hits between 1977 and 1994, and this is one of the better ones. If you like their style, you can check out "Back in Stride", "Can't Get Over You", and "Silky Soul". I would also love it if you did another song by Jeffrey Osborne, who you reacted to last July. Frankie Beverly and Maze’s music always takes me back to my childhood. Remembering my mom, aunties and their friends in the kitchen gossiping/hanging out, while us kids ran in/out of the house, ( whenever I hear “Joy and Pain,” those memories come flooding back). My mom would blast the “Live from New Orleans,” & “We Are One,” albums while cleaning the house, I bought my mom their CD’s in the 90s (replacing her LPs) she still enjoys them today.😊💕

I've never been to any party that was hosted by black people, that didn't play this song. It's been played at parties for decades! 🎉👏
I've never seen Amber jam so hard! Do it, girl! 👍🙂
When Beyonce used this in her song, I was so upset that so many young people thought she'd done it first. 😟 The audacity! 😄
Listen to their song "Southern Girl". I'm a southern girl and that's one of my jams. 🙂

Maze & Frankie Beverly have never received the recognition from the music industry. That's a travesty. While folks whose music sounds worst than a cow bell are being praised globally. It's not right but the Man upstairs will make everything alright. While they are still with us, the generation and those who follow will forever enjoy their music, attend their concerts and bask in sweet memories.
    Reaction Songs:
They have never had CD fillers. Everything that I know of suits someone.
#1.) Joy and Pain - BP Anthem. You are going to Dance or move something. It's one of my favorite Road Trip Songs
    #2.) Reasons (Timeless)
    #3.) Never Let You Down
    #4.) When You Love Someone
It would be a woodshed moment if you don't do Joy and Pain

Such a legendary tune. No wonder Beyoncé covered it in 2019.

I've been watching these "reaction" videos for quite some time now, and it just dawned on me that you guys are almost like VJs/DJs premiering all of these classics all over again for a new generation. It's great!! Keep it up. :)

Saw them in London in the 80's and they were brilliant. Frankie loved playing shows in the UK because there was always a very mixed audience racially compared to their American shows. He loved the fact that the music brought people together , which is what all great music should do.

I had to watch this again because it's one of my favorite reactions by you guys. The moment that you both go to pause the video to give your comments, and you just can't do it! Thank you for this because sadly Frankie Beverly passed away today. His legend and this great video will forever go on. THANK YOU!

Omg, how is it that you guys have never heard this song? Every dance and cookout in black America has heard this song. Sorry, no butt dancing allowed.

I guess I didn't get near enough R&B as a child. That was really nice. Amber I do believe you got a little flushed there, beautiful girl...
