I bought two of these (GDT-311) about 20 years ago. Back then I paid $10/each & I can say they both have performed perfectly each time I used them. I have taken them into junk yards several times in the mud slop (to test resistance on coil packs). I have also taken them to job sites in my tool box (no special/protecttive case used) and they have never let me down. Yes, they only have 3 functions, but for $10 I think they are great.

At 10$ it's a steal..unfortunately they're usually 3x that price which takes them out of the great buy zone. They are tough as nails as you pointed out..probably it's strongest asset! 🙂👍

Interesting, I thought I had heard of that name before. I looked out in my work shed and low and behold! I had some
other basic GardnerBender products, a package of wire nuts (multi colors and very old, some electrical staples which
I assume are for twisted pair wiring and some plastic GardnerBender tape also very old and in a rainbow of colors) So besides
this eclectic very basic multimeter (which I do not have and will not purchase) it seems they also sold me some other very basic
electrical items. But hey, that's what merchandising is all about. Good job, GardnerBender. Also, Great Job! Darren

This is all some of us have or can afford. Maybe focus nore so on the good or decent features of having it vs the alrernative of not having one at all. What good does it do anyone to bring up EVERY thing you think is missing wrong with it? If it does the job, then you're just putting into the minds of those who already have it, that it isnt even worth using. Using an impartial tone when reviewing tends to be more helpful 😅

Suddenly Klein Tools MM300 doesn't seem so basic and overpriced. $26 for the meter that doesn't even have continuity mode? I imagine it went right in one of your many drawers to never see the light again. As it probably should.

I have a model up from this one and its almost identical on the inside, does what its supposed to but $30 for this is insane maybe $10 or no more than $15 considering its basic build. On the other hand its got solid top quality jack construction and it does work as advertised, but you can do so much better for this kind of money.

My truck has a parasitic drain on my battery that will happen intermittently. I’ll turn it on some Mornings and batteries will

    • @KeepOnTesting
      @KeepOnTesting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Make sure your battery is fully charged and good. Put your multimeter in the high current mode (10Amps) .disconnect your ground battery terminal from the battery. Take one test leadand insert into the negative battery cable and the other into the battery (ground).you should have less than 50mA draw...any higher and you have a parasitic draw. Before testing, make sure nothing is left open on the car..no doors windows etc.

The multimeter allows you to test up to 500 AC Volts. Not "200" as you stated in your video. On the dial settings next to AC they are displayed in bold numbers like the AC text. 200 on the right side of the AC and 500 setting on the left side. Is there even a multimeter on the planet that only tests up to 200 AC volts? Isn't 240 AC extremely common? If you're going to do videos reviewing miscellaneous testers etc, try being a little less dramatic in your presentation and a little more accurate.

For me this is super important for the Cheap-O Multimeters since I can calibrate them with my job's expensive flukes every 6 months or so and then I have a cheap-o calibrated multimeter at home. For example this one on this video have the tiny potentiometer (label VR1) and you totally missed that super important feature for this particular Cheap-O. Thanks for all your videos.

It seems incredible that anyone would ever buy such a pathetic piece of crap meter but there are reviews on Amazon so i guess they do. Darned if i would ever show that i had once been so drunk as to buy this but it takes all sorts to make a world. Thanks for unearthing this one, Darren! Now quickly bury it again...lol!

that's American capitalism for ya. make cheap sell high. it's made in China FFS but it works great. i have one at home to ring out stuff on cars paid only$10 for it 20 something years ago. I've used far more expensive ones that break if you breath wrong or look at it funny. it might only have 3 functions on it but it has never failed.

The Gardner Bender is definitely resilient, I'll give it that..but at 40$ for the most basic model it's definitely overpriced. It's good to hear the reliability factor is strong. 👍

What the picky/ fussy narrator fails to mention re: The Glendale, Wi based Gardner Bender model # GDT-311 multimeter is how to take apart the Frickin device to install 9V battery. Can somebody get back to me ASAP PLEASE because company doesn’t allow talk to “live” person either. Furthermore the model doesn’t even give instructions; instead just product features. Very frustrating & unprofessional!

    • @KeepOnTesting

Well let this picky/fussy "narrator" tell ya how ..simply turn the multimeter so its back is facing you..then locate the 4 holes and unscrew the philips screw in each hole. (located at each corner). That's it! Miraculously the back will then come off and you will have instant access to your battery compartment! Btw, feel free to send a Super Thanks my way if so inclined. 😊👍

Your video gave essentially zero information on using the device, just a lot of complaining.
    Absolutely no help.

It's a REVIEW. Not a multimeter tutorial. There's a big difference. I'll have some multimeter tutorials coming soon. Thx for watching. 😊
