Rainy Flight to Wichita, Cessna Citation M2, Pilot Vlog 102

- Pilot Vlog 102. After a night of thunderstorms, I have an early morning flight in the Cessna Citation M2. It’s a single pilot flight from Saint Louis to Wichita Ka and thunderstorms are in the forecast for both airports. Once we get to Wichita we go to the Cessna Service center for a couple of hours then I fly back home.

Ahh, good ole lift dump, as they called it on the HS 125-700/800 that I flew. Worked the same way. Stuff popped out all over the wing, the flaps went down to like 90degrees.
As always, a great breakfast burrito, oops, I mean, video.

I live about 5-6 miles NW of ICT,cool to see you swing around McConnell AFB and land on the left side where Cessna is. When was this flight? Big thunderstorms all spring and summer and record rain. Now in the fall it's bone dry. Most of us moan and groan when we have to have a car fixed and get the bill,I can't imagine how much the one on the Citation would run. Great vid,new subscriber.
Thanks David. This was in August. It's not just on the Cessna's. All aircraft are expensive to maintain. I've always said that the purchase price was just the entry fee you pay for the privilege to keep paying. Apologies to all the aircraft manufacturers.
Very nice plane, and good video. How about talking more about what is going on inside the plane, instead of fast forwarding. I like to see more of the inside

Just re-watched this again.
Fascinating how as 'airspeed comes alive', rain starts to move off windshield and is gone by 100! Is it simply Citation aerodynamics, or is this extra air that is forced over the window that does it?
Does it work well on landing too??
So no need for wipers.
it's a combination of the air and the windshield is treated to repel water. We also have the ability to direct bleed air to the windshield which helps. It works just as well for landing.

It's still on the window with a suction cup but the arm is slightly longer.
Hi Captain - another great video, thanks! Your videos are always very well put together. I'm sure someone has asked before but what cameras do you use and what video editing software? The results are very natural looking.
thanks Anthony. I use my phone, a Samsung Galaxy s6 for almost everything but the view out he front of the airplane. For that I use a GoPro 4. For editing I use Power Director 14.

So the 'ground flap' setting is only available on the landing rollout not selectable in the air? Looks like it would create a huge amount of drag! Why as you told me the thrust attenuators aren't needed anymore. Big drag and great brakes. Happy Thanksgiving from down here in Middle Earth!
Hi Graysono. They are only approved for use on the ground. But, surprisingly they are not locked out when the aircraft is in flight.
Jim, for your editing, consider downloading a copy of Davinci 12, incredibly, it's free, but it'll allow you to pull back some of the darker shots that you're getting when the flight-deck is backlit. I'd love to see more vids of your ILS shots.

Just curious what altitude you generally fly at. It seems like you're always between two cloud layers. Also, your plane was made here in my little town of Doo-Dah. Makes me proud.
Hi Monkey man. The flights are more interesting to video when there's a little weather and more than half our flight are fairly short legs. for the longer flight 38-41

I'm new to your channel, and if you've done this before I apologise. Can you explain why you can't fly above bad weather generally. I appreciate you have to get through it to get above it ob take off and again on landing.
For the most part we are above the weather. We end up flying in the weather when taking off, landing or when the trip is to short for us to climb above the weather.
I thought the Breakfast of Champions was a trip to Cracker Barrel. Pecan Pie and a Burger looks like the lunch of Champions though.
I had Turkey and pecan pie for breakfast today.

Can you show how the plane is refueled? Also, how high were you on this flight?
The refueling is over the wing, I'll try to do that.
How do you like the G3000? easy? hard? Great video.
I really like it. It's easy if you transition from other Garmin products. If not, the course that Flight Safety provides is well worth it.
You talked about the Ground Flap setting at the end of the video. Is that the reason you went to the Service Center? You didn't really say, or I missed it, one or the other.

Thanks Gary. No, I lost all the video from wichita to sus where I showed the ground flap setting. I was actually going out that way to pickup so we decided to stop at Cessna to take care of some minor issues. That would not have been worth flying out for.
captmoonbeam Okay. Too bad about losing the video, I really enjoy what you put together. I doubt that I'll ever be able to return to the cockpit, financial reasons, but I really enjoy going along for the ride. Also, you are such a friendly person, and you make all of us feel welcome aboard. We also get a feeling for what it's like to be a charter/corporate pilot.

So there is no reverse thrust on the M2? And the flaps extend further to act like spoilers with spoilers for aerodynamic braking?
that is correct. The M2 also has excellent braking. it decelerates so well you don't notice the absence of thrust reversers.
captmoonbeam one more question. So are the landing flaps pilot actuated or no? What if you have to do a go around?
Just taking her in for scheduled maintenance I take it?
We had to go to wichita to pickup so we just had some minor things that were taken care of since we were going there anyway.

Hi Cap. Does your company hire interns for the summer? My son attends Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne Fl. He currently has his private, instrument and will complete his commercial and multi before this year is up. We live in North Iowa so it would not be a stretch for him to base out of St Louis for the summer. Just curious. Love the vids!!
