Did you know the man who founded DreamWorks used to be an executive at Disney. He had a major falling out with the company, so when he left Disney he created DreamWorks and Shrek was written as a parody of Disney.

I agree. Also, Accidentally In Love quickly became me and my Husband's song after this movie, since it basically describes how we fell for each other. We ended up walking out to it at our wedding before our first dance.

I actually sympathize with Fiona a lot in this. She loves her parents, she loves Shrek, and she just wants them to try to get along. It’s too real haha. Especially when her parents drove her away by not respecting her choice.
Shrek 2 is widely considered one of the best sequels of all time not only does it expand on the world of Shrek but it also ups the Humor,Jokes,Action,Adventure,characters etc

Funny thing about the king is that fairy godmother turned him human(he was a frog) so she could marry Fiona's mother, a princess so he has no business judging Shrek. The king is being a major hypocrite.

Yeah, I found the self hatred lesson quite good in this. And I think the King is supposed to be a mirror version of Shrek; or at least a possible future version of him. It’s all about how easier it would be to conform than to stand out.

Jennifer Saunders went that hard on the character and the song because of her natural theatrics. She was told it was just gonna be a song in the 3rd act yet she took the opportunity and ran away with it!
Jennifer Saunders really said 'oh you need me to sing?' and then absolutely KILLED it!!!
When someone asks me “what is one sequel that is better than the original”, this film is easily one of the few examples that pop into my head.
And it's easy to see why. It has a much more interesting and less predictable plot that takes major risks (ex: changing Shrek’s appearance), the jokes are more funnier, the fairy tale satire is much sharper, and every new character that the film adds are extremely endearing, and all the established characters all get more depth and even more lovable. In my opinion, this is right up there in the Top 5 when it comes to the funniest animated movies ever.

"I hate Mondays" - I feel so stupid it took nearly 20 years and countless watches of this movie for me to get the Garfield reference 😑
This "soup" is called "Fingerbowl" you get it (at least in Europe) when you order something, you'll eat with your hands. Like chicken wings, lobster,... It's usually warm water with lemon slices.
I don't think I've ever seen those here in the US. We typically just use napkins if we need to wipe our hands at the table. Although I have seen them in TV and movies on occasion. Mostly things like Shrek, that take place in more medieval settings. Which, naturally, would usually take place in Europe, so maybe that's why.

I think there's a loooot of references you're not getting, Puss in boots jumping out of Shrek's chest (Alien), Puss in Boots saying he hates Mondays (Garfield), The TV show where they arrest them (Cops), Puss in boots at the end with the shower on the chair (Demi Moore's Striptease movie 1996).
Ps. In Spanish when the Puss in Boots says "for you baby I can be" instead they say "Por ti baby sería Batman" (For you baby, I'm Batman)
If you want to continue with Dreamworks stuff…Definitely finish the Shrek movies. My favorites are the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy and Rise of the Guardians (a bit more of a Holiday/Christmas film though). 😊💛 I’d love to see what you think of them. #bingers

Actually, I always thought the Fairy Godmother is secretly the "witch" who cursed Fiona in the first place. Think about it; first she makes King Harold owe her big time by transforming him into a human (as implied when she threatens him to revert the effect) thus allowing him to marry a princess (queen Lillian) and therefore becoming the king of Far Far Away. Then, she (secretly) curses Fiona causing her to be locked in the tower until the day her true love (Prince Charming, if everything goes as planned) arrives to save her. When that happens the Fairy Godmother can simply lift the spell and have her son be next in line to the throne of Far Far Away (and this would be a cynical explanation to why the kiss at the end of the first Shrek didn´t have any noticeable effect on Fiona...). So all the time, the Fairy Godmother was plotting the conquest of Far Far Away!
Omg I never thought of that! Also based on your theory, it could be why Fiona stays an Ogre. If the plan was to only turn her back once she kissed Charming then she might've made the spell turn her into a forever ogre if she kissed anyone else. Basically saying her "loves true form" is cursed so that she would be an ogre unless she kissed Charming then she would be human.

Something I just learned one of the head guys at Disney left because of a beef within the company and created DreamWorks/Shrek to throw the ULTIMATE shade at Disney Princess stories. It was really messy but I am grateful for the pettiness, created amazing content 🧡🔥
My favorite thing about this movie is the Far Far Away Idol at the end of the DVD. I always voted for Puss in Boots lol.
I think what’s most disappointing about the king is the fact that he feared his secret being exposed and showed self hate to himself and his past and then had a smart, beautiful and strong daughter and dared to teach her the same self hate??? Even if he never told his wife about his past he could have told his daughter, had a little bonding moment over their transformations and generally just LOVE her for her 100% of the time.
Going back to the scene when Shrek and Fiona shows up and the king doesn’t even recognize her goes to show that he didn’t look at her much when she changed at night and that’s disgusting to me.

I have a confession to make. As a kid, well i was probably around 12-13, i used to watch shrek 2 every single day MULTIPLE times for like 2 weeks I didn't get tired of it. It was the weirdest addiction

The very first DreamWorks movie ever made, and to many considered the best (Antz made it to theaters first but this movie was the first project commissioned by DreamWorks) is The Prince of Egypt. It was the movie many hugely famous names put their hearts and souls into so they could create the company with a strong foundation to try and compete with Disney in animation. It is a beautiful story and has one of the best soundtracks thanks to Hans Zimmer. 10/10
Best one by FAR. Man I must’ve seen and quoted this movie countless times. (That beginning song “Accidentally In Love” was the song we played when we walked up the aisle after our wedding ceremony lol.)

If you were a child when you first saw this movie (me included) you fs put on I NEED A HEROOOOOO by the fairy god mother multiple times. This is my favorite movie of the franchise and not even the original comes close. The fairy god mother is an icon. No offense to the person who made the song I need a hero but the fairy god mother is mainly known for this song💀.

1. *The Prince of Egypt* - probably one of the best animated movies of all time (and yes I'm including anime movies)
2. *Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron* - great story, great soundtrack, great animation. Also one of my top 5 animated movies period.
3. *How to train your dragon trilogy* my favourite is the 1st movie but all of them are good. The main character is really interesting And he has sarcasm for days!
4. *Kung Fu Panada* Martial arts, Jokes, Jack Black and jokes with HARD hitting life lessons
Honestly just shrek 3 & 4, they are almost as iconic as the first ones and they are just such amazing movies. One of the few series that don’t get worse as sequels are made.
