God, this guy is dead for 11 years now. But he was goddamn good. So sick. Can't believe all these Shawn lane videos are 20 years or so old. Time moved fast. Time is the enemy, I guess...
I always imagine coming into a club without any clue and seeing something like this in person. What a bliss, what a moment of genius. Sadly I never will...
I am sure she is, but I hope Shawn's mother see's all these nice comments people have left on all his videos and is extremely proud of her son. It has to be tough to watch stuff like this if you are her but I hope it brings her some joy. Shawn was one of not even a handful of people in history that could make you cry with his instrument. First time i heard him it took me a minute to pick my jaw off the floor from just pure technical skill, but that really is secondary to his emotion and feel.
This is an absolute masterpiece. The interplay between the three is just amazing - Sipe's drumming when Hellborg and Lane are soaring is stonking. Jonas plays with such passion not to mention jaw-dropping heart that I took up bass playing from listening to this song - as for Shawn - I am so glad I came across him - an extraordinary genius.
this is was makes ya wonder why Lane & this band blow everything else away -virtuoso drummer & bassist + Shawn= the sickest rock-fusion ever!!!I cant listen to a lot of fusion cuz a lot of it dont have no soul-this is powerful & has tons of heart...
as i had mentioned before, this is absolutely beautiful. those Formula One pentatonics at 4:58 get me every time! and the D at 5:22...it is amazing how poignant one note can be. masterful playing by three extremely gifted individuals.
I truly believe that this is strictly the work of God himself. Shawn was a gift to this planet from some higher power. THE BEST, may he rest in peace. Thank you God!!
That's actually a quote from a character from Jean-Paul Sartre's play "No Exit" to be exact. People name songs after many things. I think something as substantive as Sartre's philosophy is a much better, less cliche' source of inspiration than most music being made nowadays and I applaud such creativity.
what incredible musicianship on everyones part. jeff sipe really knows how to accompany other peoples parts with his drumming, especially during some of shawns riffs.
This is the video that cost me 3 grand. One minute, I'm watching Jonas playing his solo, then the next, I'm opening a box from Status-Graphite with a Hellborg signature bass in it. That is a sweet freakin' axe, lemme tell ya.
@mphillips0052 It's a shame he goes around talking crap about other people's music. But he came to the one spot, where his words are void, cause we all know the magic that is lane.
4:27 and 5:13. the frustration in those notes, damn. I wanna hear Guthrie cover this like his Get You Back one, note for note with his own feel factor.
The video covering this solo and giving it justice would be the sole pinnacle of Guthrie's career, immediately lifting his basic guitar level at least by one. He knows this. He has done his best. Therefore he won't touch it. Guthrie is a guitar god and can do almost anything on the instrument. That does not mean at all that he can touch this. He can't.
It was an American who invented the electric guitar, and 8trac recording,M.R. Less Paul,Dont know what being American or anyother nationality has to do with music but thought id throw that out there anyway.
Alas, local shops carry very little of taste, I get most of it from amazon. I highly reccommend you get "abstract logic" if you don't already have it. =)
Not many people are born with a sole purpose in life. Shawn was and it was to make music.
To this day , no one can do it up like Shawn Lane. No one.
God, this guy is dead for 11 years now. But he was goddamn good. So sick.
Can't believe all these Shawn lane videos are 20 years or so old. Time moved fast. Time is the enemy, I guess...
Jonas is the greatest and so is Shawn Lane, the ultimate guitarist of all time
I always imagine coming into a club without any clue and seeing something like this in person. What a bliss, what a moment of genius. Sadly I never will...
Nor of this earth.Beyond perfection....true magic....Speechless...

There are no rock guitarist on this planet can improvise like Shawn Lane.

My favorite guitar solo
my favourite bass solo! although the cd version is slightly better
I still come back once a month to listen to 3:30
OH my God, the solo blew me away. Lane always seems to impress me.
as i had mentioned before, this is absolutely beautiful. those Formula One pentatonics at 4:58 get me every time! and the D at 5:22...it is amazing how poignant one note can be. masterful playing by three extremely gifted individuals.
Shawn's guitar play in this video is as good as anything I've ever heard or seen played. Absolute magic.
This was the first video to ever make it into my favorites, back in '07 when I joined this site. Still love it and always will.
Never before... have I heard someone play guitar that could make me cry. Hail the Master!
Shawn's solo brings tears to my eyes!
Shawns solo in this is speachless... brilliant band, brilliant people
And guitar was never the same again
This guy makes the guitar cry so beautifully
Shawn Lane gone but definetly not forgotten!!!!
I truly believe that this is strictly the work of God himself. Shawn was a gift to this planet from some higher power. THE BEST, may he rest in peace. Thank you God!!

so so missed.....love this guy's guitar playing!!!!
Incredible what a combo
Incredible
I think every album I've bought featuring Jonas Hellborg and Shawn Lane is "the best buy I've ever done". How can you go wrong with them?
R.I.P. Shawn
world class musicians
Such an awesome song and performance!
lol holy crap, I never get tired of watching Shawn play, even focusing on what hes doing.. all of a sudden BAM hes got the tremolo bar on hand, wth!
Shawn Lane. None better. Ever.
Ever bro
I get the feeling that Shawn Lane was a huge influence for John Petrucci s playing on Liquid Tension Experiment 1
Thanks for this one!
omg that lick at 5:46 is so cool!
what incredible musicianship on everyones part. jeff sipe really knows how to accompany other peoples parts with his drumming, especially during some of shawns riffs.
Yeah, 14 years later, this video still blows my mind.
@@mexicanstormglad to see you still have great music taste😁
beautiful
Thanks!
I second that, as it is just so awesome.
this is very good songs and i love it ;) Grüss aus Böhmen
this is awesome i really like this style
This is Love in music.
amazing

This so kicks ass
jonas is an amazing bassplayer and innovator...he invented the acoustic bass!
Yep. Status!
@mphillips0052
It's a shame he goes around talking crap about other people's music.
But he came to the one spot, where his words are void, cause we all know the magic that is lane.
well done!
ohhh, no tenia idea :(, pero aun asi sigue siendo tan maestro como siempre
Rock fusion the way I like it !!
That was his old Status signature bass, if I'm not mistaken. (And I'm not.) I agree, though, the tone is wicked cool.

Sure. Just check out "No Exit" (In german "Geschlossene Gesellschaft"), it's a theater piece. Good one too..
It was an American who invented the electric guitar, and 8trac recording,M.R. Less Paul,Dont know what being American or anyother nationality has to do with music but thought id throw that out there anyway.
...but he understands and let's leave it that way :)
My question is then why have you searched / watched this video at the first Time?
then ?
I wonder why Jonas stopped using Wal basses - that was his best tone IMHO!
Im just getting into Lane's stuff and he really is amazing, what do you suggest as his masterpieces?
@Neidhardt84 why, thank you
Jeff sipe say in extra info
@arsguitarrica - are + were
Sorry if you didn't know it.
R.I.P. Shawn.
Huis Clos anyone ?
there seems to be a misunderstanding. i was talking about shawn.
he worked with mclaughlin?! more info please!
@arsguitarrica Your concept of desincarnation is quite interesting...
Alas, local shops carry very little of taste, I get most of it from amazon. I highly reccommend you get "abstract logic" if you don't already have it. =)
@BetterTasteThanU
you must have been looking for the Jonas Brothers, different group
ops...yeah, my bad.
Does anyone know if that's one of Jonas Hellborg's Wal basses?
Don't worry, I know :)
I guarantee you the person filming this was a bassist.
Why is there a lumberjack playing the guitar? :)
That Timberman character will sasso plays on Madtv reminds me of him, hehe.
Lumberjacks are the best guitarists. They know how to treat a piece of wood.
dang zach galfanakis can play guitar!
Great - but Jonas best bass tone for me was way back when he used his Wal!
Fuckin sick. He was and is so completely under rated it's disgusting. Better than Vai.
IF this music completely sucks
why do Paul Gilbert, Buckethead, Eric Johnson say that Shawn Lane was one of the Best guitarists of ALL TIMES ?
but does it blend? (joke. wonderful music)
nothing else in the world
not even looking at the guitar
Scary as hell. He knew the guitar inside out and had millions of different options at his fingertips during that solo.
Pretty intense eh
@00Dakka Jonas is not as spooky as Richard D James !
Status?
5:00 umm take that yngvie
You can, you just have to dig him up first.
3:35🤣
drummer???
Jonas Hellborg kinda looks like Guybrush Threepwood...
is it just me or does he sortof look like aphex twin
haha more like 0:00 -> 6:39 :)
ese tipo no adelgasa jjaajajja
