The NEC (And Hudson Soft) TurboGrafx-16 (PC Engine) was a console released in 1989 to compete with Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis, and Super Nintendo. There was also a portabilized version of the console known as the Turbo Express. It played the same games as the Turbografx-16. Making it the only portable console in history to play current generation games. Subscribe to ReviewTechUSA.

Rich, this has been among the best videos you've made in some time, not to say recent ones haven't been good, this one is just excellent in particular. Some of my favorite content to come out of you have just been life stories and this combines that with a console review. You've mentioned in streams that it took a while to do this review but I seriously hope you have plans for more videos with this style.

Because its American division had to localize them, and the cost of that with such low sales wasn't worth it. It was too short-lived in the states to ever really compete.

I loved my TG16, TurboDuo, and TurboExpress. In the US it did fail but in Japan it actually was the leading console over the Super Famicom and Mega Drive for some time. I remember I was the only kid in the neighborhood to play Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition portable on the TurboExpress while other kids had to play theirs on Super Nintendo and Genesis consoles. Sega Nomad would give them that portability when it was released years later. Fun times.

This brings back a lot of memories. I think I still have my TurboExpress. The short battery life was super annoying. My friend (who also owned one) and I created an external battery pack using 6 "D" batteries that could power the unit for like an entire day. The screen was awesome, but it made the unit so expensive. For being the "underdog", the TG16 had some really great games.
