    The best tool in your kit is the one between your ears 😀 Seriously, there is not many more tools needed to address the holy trinity of combustion. These three basics are the only thing I need to determine if a side of the road project is a keeper or a parts machine.

    Thanks for showing your toolkit! Love these kind of videos. I need to get an actual spark checker! And totally agree on the last part, I got a small generator right now with like 30 psi compression and clean internals, gasket, etc. Having some fun with it! 😂👌

      I have one in my top tool drawer. $3.99 at Harbor Freight. I also have a HF feeler gauge next it it, also $3.99. Well worth the money if you like to play with these toys.

    I have a 2009 Chevy Silverado 3500HD with an extended bed and this thing is great at hauling around all my equipment without needing a trailer. Two times a summer I have to go up to my Grandfather’s land in Bear Lake and now it with him. We just load our two mowers and trimmers in the back and go up there together.

    It's good to see repairs made with tools we all have around in our garage. Also repairs made without the parts needed eg. the lawnmower handle video.

    Think you have it covered, Im only a amateur repairer and have a compression tester and that's it. Testing spark I just ground it to the engine and for fuel down the throat, a can of "start ya bastard" works well 😅

    Take the bowl off the Briggs and clean the brass jet. Make sure the air vane spring isn’t missing for the auto choke.

    I think you do fine with what you have. I usually just use the plug or another plug I know works and if whatever it is is ratty I always pull the blower housing off to clean everything and de-rust the mag and flywheel. As far as compression if I can feel it it will usually run. The OLD square housing Echo blowers felt like they had nothing but would run anyway. And I just pour gas down the carb from the tru-fuel can. Happy fixing and BLESSINGS!

  • @wikeddf
    @wikeddf ปีที่แล้ว

    I use carb cleaner to test for fuel, essentially the same thing as putting fuel into the the carbs throat. Then for spark I use a flathead screwdriver and the tip of the spark plug touches the screwdriver. And last just use my compression tester to see how bad or good the engine is.

    Nice video. I would get a spark tester that jumps an air gap. sometimes the neon bulb type shows a spark that may be to week to run an engine. The air gap type will tell you how intense the spark is. Thanks.

      I am not gonna lie… I have an adjustable air gap spark plug tester… I did not know that it can be used for seeing how “intense” the spark is as well.

    Also starting a mower without a blade can be dangerous, especially if the blade adapter is still on without it's bolt. Had to patch the garage wall.

    Looks like you do most of your work outside. I have a mechanic friend who was dropping a gas tank to change a fuel pump as he has done hundreds of times. The gas tank was full so he was was going to pump some out. A spark from something or static electricity ignited the vapors. He lost almost everything. The point being, be careful when working with fuel and have an extinguisher close. One lapse of judgement or getting complacent could cost you everything I had a close call myself when an engine backfired.

    Inside home garage I put some fuel down the spark plug hole on sthil tree saw and it kicked over Ran for a few seconds and then died what do you think I should look into next the carburetor

    • @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
      @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So have you put fuel into the tank, to try and start it? If so, and it didn't start, then yes take the carb off or an inspection.

    Are you not worried about something getting out of controle such as stuck at full throttle or catching fire?

    • @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
      @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, and when I've had a mower go "wide open", I just let go of the brake handle. As for fire, that's more likely but life isn't without it's hazards.

    A better spark check I hate those in line ones they make a small engine adjustable one it’s better and cheap under 15 bucks that one you have is only 7 bucks at harbor freight hard to see it spark

      the mower junk yards here, want almost retail price for the parts, it's not worth to buy from them.

    hi. how do you know if the machine has a compression release? do all the mowers have one?

    • @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
      @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I've seen, most current mowers have them, as it makes it easier for the user to pull on the rope. I'm not sure when they started having compression releases but I would imagine, that It might started all the way back in the 80's

      @@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE so how do you know it has it?

    • @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
      @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the only way to tell beside taking the completely apart, Is to remove the valve cover, remove the spark plug wire, and then slowly rotate the blade. What you're looking for is the intake valve to open then close, and as the piston is moving up to the top, watch for the exhaust to "crack" open slightly.
