Funny how you can have a preconception on somebody. I have encountered and seen Nathan on forums before, and he is forthright and rubs some people up the wrong way. To be honest, this chat did change some opinions I had formed. You don't really know people, unless you really know them and spend time in their company. The bloke comes across on this piece as a character and actually a good honest lad. He has always been a cracking angler, and results show that. I don't think he would lose sleep if somebody like me didn't like him, but I'll still say anyway that some preconcenptions I had about him were wrong. He does things his way, and they obviously work for him. Really enjoyed this, and I am glad he did it. Well worth the watch.
What a top guy. Much more modest than I expected. Huge respect to him for persevering fishing at the highest level whilst dealing with such debilitating health issues.
Nathan is one of those guys that you dread drawing anywhere near. He does his own thing. And gives you a hiding! Comes across as a lovely guy. Proper character- and one that I would have a lot of time for. All the best for the future Nathan. 🐳👍 Matt/Toby/Guru - amazing job. Matt - you ask really insightful questions and don’t hold back. Absolutely love it. Every elephant in the room is smacked right in the chops. Toby you bring a great balance to the conversation. Guru - allowing these podcasts to proceed without giving a hoot about branding and use of other manufacturers products is a massive credit to you. You are a very special company. And employ a very special set of people. In summary - F******* Brilliant. 🐳👍
Love this lad an absolute character in his own right. But with a big heart. If the world was full of Nathan Watsons it would certainly be a great place
Brilliant watch, cracking local angler, had me in stitches listening to his banter on some small local opens, but all said and done, what a top angler he is......cheers
Brilliant Pod cast , we used to fish for Eels Shallow on the River Rother as well . Great fun but Slime every where lol . And the big Matches on the Thames 1200 pegs on the Thames Championships , i was lucky enough to win that 1987 or 89 i can never remember now getting old lol.
I suffered exactly the same with semi diagnosed ibs for going on 15 years or so with all the added bad effects with work, fishing and life in general. One day at yet another visit to the GP where I wound up seeing an old school Dr that suggested something that no one else had. Amitryptaline in a very low 10mg dose once a day. Oh my god! Within about a fortnight I was pretty much cured!! It was totally life changing and after a few years of taking them I was able to reduce the frequency to like every other day etc and eventually stopped needing them. I know how bad it is and I had to write this just in case it gets through to Nathan and if there's even a minute chance then it's worth it. You never know.
Great show and nice to see a local lad on the pod. You should definately get Woody on! He has some amazing and hilarious stories to tell and a good mate.
Great podcast. Always admired Nathan, he's always seemed down to earth and also a fantastic angler. He took loads of flack online in the early days (Total-Fishing rings a bell...), which was unnecessary. I think there was a lot of jealousy with Nath, he is a fantastic angler. I've still got the Fish O from Hayfield (2007?) on DVD where he was second and he was right, there were people literally looking over the reeds into his swim!
I'm with Nathan I don't use puller kits! I've fished for years, I'm not a match fisherman but I've fished my first two matches in the last couple of weeks as they were in aid of charity! I came 8 of twenty in the first & won the second with 30 carp & a bream in five hours & without pullers! All my kit is much loved & over 10 years old & I use the same kit in France each summer to target carp to 30Lbs+ on the pole all without pullers!
Great pod cast I have got the same problem with ibs it’s not funny get ready to go to a match and just can’t go but what a down to earth guy and what ever you do all the best for the future
Great podcast,Get Woody(Tony Wood) on bet he daren't tell half the stories he has.Him and his mate Kieth Easton would be both great on here.2 fantastic anglers from Grimsby, very nice chaps and brilliant anglers.
Cracking listen, seems like a really down to earth guy. Fair play fishing with those bowel issues. Quarter to 3 alarm 😣 I wont get up that early to go on holiday nevermind fishing! Haha
Big up the simplicity of solid elastics and no puller kits. It won't be long before puller kits have a little centrepin reel attached the way things are going!
Great character always good to watch and listen to someone who is honest.Proper old school be long gone characters like this soon in the future. He might upset some of the Jon Arthur fanboys though 😂
Rob Hichens smashed Hayfield on floating pole he used to sit on platform with legs in water. My mate made quite a bit of money getting anglers poles which got dragged in from using floating pole
I remember Nathan at Skegness fishing a match, and he tipped about 4 tins of corn in on the edge. He got a bit of stick for it, and I thought he was very cocky and arrogant. But now I've listened to him I get most of it. I'm one who blocked him on social media for his abrupt comments and attitude. He won't change, but I wish him well in his future plans.
I was at the next peg to Nathan in a match on a local river-- as I swung in a 6oz Roach he said to me "you are an animal" I said coming from you I`ll take that as a compliment ,
Looking forward to this! Something intriguing about him and I’ve always thought we’d see more of him on social media. Always had the impression of him as the black sheep of fishing 😂 no idea why either. I’ll update this after I’ve watched it all. Well done Guru for getting him on. I wasn’t disappointed, great podcast and a top fella. Definitely relaxed a bit after that cider!😂
Shame to hear of Nathan's health troubles but nice to hear Nathan is still using the Normark 2000 series, no better rods available now!. Get Giles Cochrane on the podcast if you want an outspoken angler.
Nathan seems like a nice bloke and hopefully he gets some relief from the health issues. I’ve only ever heard of him before this when Andy Power was accused of cheating and his comments. That has all gone a bit far and takes away the fun of fishing, with pros being accused a bit too regularly and then being trolled for it. Fisheries definitely don’t help this with the amount of rules and especially making changes to the rules to accommodate for festivals and that leading to confusion. Giles Cochran would be an interesting guest, I read a few of his articles and they were always a different approach to he norm
I've never used puller kits! I don't like them! They were one of the reasons I stopped match fishing and I'm in the verge of quitting fishing all together because it's becoming harder to find decent poles without pullers fitted in my price range! I don't care what anyone says puller kits are cheating! And I do not believe they are good for the fish either scooping them into the net before playing and tiring them out properly!
Don't quit, we need you. Bring your experience to the other side, get a Rotherham book, Leeds book and a Donny book like me, go back to basics, a pint of reds, 3lb line and a stick float. You won't regret it 👍
Great podcast. Came across as a decent fella He looks likes steptoes lovechild. His bowel problem sounds horrendous but maybe a chance for sponsorship from Andrew
Nathan Watson the peoples match angler no b/s not trying to sell you anything like a few of these mediocre creeps who move from sponsor to sponsor every 10 mins

I remember Nathan fishing at Grimsby kingfishers just mentioned it as I started typing, class angler.
