Old Homeowner Let This Yard Get CRAZY (Worst Lawn Mowing Tall Grass On YouTube)

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 8 ก.ค. 2024
- This is what it looks like when a mowing quote turns into a brush clearing job.
Q: What equipment did you use?
A: TORO BRC-28 brushcutter, TORO 60" HDX2000 mower, HART 40 V string trimmer (did a lot better than I thought, just chewed through TONS of string), and STIHL BR800 blower.
Q: How much did you bid?/How much did you make?
A: I quoted this job sight unseen and gave a ballpark of $60 to $125 depending on the condition.
Thank goodness I had a gut feeling to bring the TORO BRC-28 brush cutter just in case, because it was WAY overgrown. Not just with tall grass, but thick, heavy brush as well that my finish mower would have had a hard time knocking down. So in the end I got $125 for this job.
If you are trying to nail down pricing, this is an example of UNDERBIDDING.
The property was ~15 minutes away, so that is 30 minutes of drive time that needs to be paid for. I arrived right around 9am and left around 12pm, BUT you also have to account that I was making a TH-cam video, which easily consumed 45 minutes of time (before and after shots on the gopro, before and after shots on the drone, setting up shots, walking from where the camera is set up back to the equipment, starting up again, stopping, swapping batteries and SD cards, etc). Then there is also non-work time that most everyone would have to account for, a few 5 minute water breaks, calling the client at the end of the job, 5 minutes of chit chat with the owner's son on site, etc.
So all told I invested around 4 hours into this job. At $125, that is ~$30 an hour, which is way too low for this kind of work. I don't mind because I make up money on TH-cam if a video performs well, and I also was able to get my foot in the door with this client, who has a beautiful (if neglected) piece of property and I hope to make more video projects on it with current AND future equipment.
Q: Why did it look like the brush cutter was getting stuck?
A: The base of these brush clumps I am mowing are like giant, woody pincushions. They jab and stick and poke and sometimes bind the mower from moving.
Q: You would have been better off using equipment ABC or XYZ instead of that TORO.
A: Maybe, but the manufacturers of ABC didn't send me a piece of equipment to abuse and test, TORO did, so that is what I am using. Feel free to forward my information along to your manufacturer of choice! :D
Q: You didn't pull the plants off the corner of the house.
A: You are 100% right. Plants growing into vinyl siding will get you in trouble MOST of the time. You go ripping and pulling and next thing you know you are ripping half the house off. Better to just tell the homeowner that is something you can't handle for liability.
Q: What is the deal with this property?
A: 30 BEAUTIFUL acres in the middle of nowhere. This place made me jealous. The previous owners let it go terribly, the new owner called me after finding me via google. I told the new owner I would LOVE to bid any future projects he might have at basically just covering my fuel costs in exchange for allowing me to film, because this place is a gold mine of projects that will really showcase the equipment I have and some new equipment I am hoping to get January/February. Nothing is written in stone there so probably no updates on it until I actually have it.

Definitely more of these! I wish we would have gotten to see the rest. There's something so satisfying watching clean ups like this.
If I can ask, was there anything specific you liked on this one versus other recent videos? (I am trying to dial in what folks want and repeat it) Is it because it is mowing instead of tools or business topics? Because it is such a drastic before and after? Did you like the 'getting to the job' montage instead of just jumping right into the 'Hi this is brad with copper creek cuts yadda yadda'.
Thank you for ANY feedback, you will be very helpful! :)
@@CopperCreekCuts I just really love seeing the tall grass get tamed into something that resembles a lawn. It's been a while since we've seen you cut out of control grass/weeds and it was great to see it again.
@@CopperCreekCuts it was great to see your garage and you getting ready, as well as a bit of the drive to the property - puts things into context. Cutting down those bushes was epic, kind of like mowing a path through the jungle. Then the panorama at the end showed how much better things are now.
@@CopperCreekCuts Brad, I agree with Excitable, I wish you included the finishing touches with the string trimmer and the finish mower after you brush hogged. I really enjoy seeing the full transformation and what was needed to get there. Very satisfying! What I can say about this specific video also is, I enjoyed the “vlog” style editing you included, kicking off with work right off the bat before going into your intro, multiple camera angles, the ride to the job, all that stuff made this video very enjoyable. Glad you found that memory card or else we wouldn’t be able to offer critical advice! LOL!
i enjoyed it, its not long, 30 mins+ but isnt super short either 8 mins or so :) before and after amazing results! also loved the truck driving view!
I heard it was almost 70 degrees last couple of weeks in Florida. Stay warm my friend 🥶🥶
The high in Los Angeles today was 61F. LOL It felt like Fall on the North East Coast.
@@shqa574 I’m from New York, it just exactly the wat you described it today. Cold crispy fall day.
LOL Everyone has jokes for Florida! :D
This is a keeper; I'm watching this again, it is awesome !
Thank you! :D
It’s already been said, but if you’re tallying votes: it was nice to see the nasty tall stuff get knocked down(always fun), but if we could also see through to the end state, that would be the icing on the cake. Still a rad video and I’m a big fan of your content. Thanks for the work you put in!
I appreciate the feedback, thank you!
Hog it, string it, mow it, edge it...Brad is the one to watch. I always learn something from you.
Haha, thanks!
This video gets a 10+. Loved it. It was a lot of work for you , I hope they paid you well, but it was fun to watch. Thumbs up for the brush hog. He/she saved your ### by capturing your SIM card.
Haha, thanks for the comments!
Excellent video, Brad! Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend!
Belated 'you too'! :D
What an amazing experience finding that SD card on the mower. I love watching these transformations. Great job!
I was beyond thrilled!
Even with a hoodie on you're still da best dressed lawn guy on da TH-cams!! Love Ya Bud, Dirty Jersey out!! #broinlawns!!
Right and not a hair out of place lol
Lol you both are a trip
Why do I find these videos highly addictive, interesting and informative but strangely therapeutic at the same time?
I can't tell you why, just that I am glad you do! :D
@@CopperCreekCuts just one of those strange things in this thing called life!
I thank you and please keep up the good work!
Thank you for this video, yes I love these clean up videos. So glad you found your USB card, now on to the next one! Lol
Haha, yes Sir!
This was probably your best video you’ve ever made. I loved the editing of fast and slow speed stuff. So so good. This is why I subscribed.
I appreciate the feedback, it helps a lot!
Yeah, more of these!! It's awesome!! Thanks for the video!
You got it, thanks!
I like variety of properties, equipment and goals. The tough vegetation needs the tougher tools and different techniques. Sometimes it is relaxing to watch the pretty green grass get mowed and trimmed. I also like watching how you have to think through the tougher jobs in order to come out with a satisfying result.
Since I am not in the business I don't get a lot out of your teaching and opinions (which you do very well) but I watch at least part of each.
If you ever wonder if God is blessing the path that you have taken, consider that tiny card as God's gift to you!
Thank you for the kind words and feedback, I appreciate it!
I wish you would have filmed the detailed work. That's the best part
Noted for next time!
Please please keep so this kinda videos more often they are amazing 🤩
Love your uploads and the amount of effort you put in. Can’t believe you found that SD card 🤣🤣🤣
Love these video's. I do miss you screaming like a lil girl when you encounter large spiders.
LOL I just haven't found any in a while.
That Toro brushcutter is slick. The transformation is incredible.
Thank you for watching!
great video! stuff like this is fun to watch and informative
Thanks for the feedback!
That machine sure has a bite! Wow! Looks good. I think that was a God thing about the SD card. Amazing!
I wanted to watch the Toro brush cutter at work, I want to clean up a piece of my property that’s over grown. Thank you for the video, the Toro did a excellent job.
It is a well performing machine to me.
This is one of the best videos you have done, awesome work Brad, please do more of these
You've got it, thank you!
Thanks for taking us along with you. Nice job.
Glad to have you!
Wow that Toro is badass 😆 Love these kind of videos
Thanks for the kind words!
You weren’t messing around ! 👍🏽🏋🏽♂️🏋🏽♂️ great job ! 💗
Thank you!
Best baton skills of any of the lawn maintenance people I've seen on the internet! =D
High praise! :D
Amazing transition, looks really great. Good job!!!!!
Thank you!
Wow! You and your Toro brush hog sure did the job. Looks great!
Thanks 👍
Incredible! I can't believe your Toro just plowed through that jungle of weeds and brush! Crazy!
I wouldn't call it the Toro, I'd call it "The Magic Beast"!
The after shots and your explanation of cutting it 5 " high in the beginning, then lower and finishing it off finally.
was very informative and interesting. That poor rake! Better to get a new rake though, than a new Toro!
So I'm glad "The Magic Beast" won! It's fun when you're working with friends. Makes for a more fulfilling day lol.
Nice of you all to help each other too.
Glad you could get together and spend time together and you all did a great job!
Blessings to all of you and may your future be joyful as we reach the end of this year.
Thank you for all the feedback and for watching!
You did a spectacular job on that property. Luv watching these jobs, the kindness and good heart you must have. I will be watching everything you have done and going back to watch the things that I have missed. Good job.
Thanks and welcome
That was actually pretty cool to watch. Definitely something different from what I been watching a nice change of pace. Thank you, a great job as usual.
Thank you for watching!
AMAZING!!! You did an amazing job. Such a transformation .
thank you so much!
Great video!!! More like this one please!!!
Will do!
20 minutes down the road? I thought that was the equivalent of 'just round the corner' in the US😄. The 'garden' looks 100% better. GReat job, great vid, Brad. Brilliant luck on finding the SD card.
Haha, it's all relative! :D
What’s not to like !! Awesome job Brad !
Thank you!
Wow Brad!! So lucky. I think I would have just sat down and cried if I did not find the SD card. Great job as always. I love videos like these. That Toro was kicking butt out there.
That is exactly what I was planning on doing if I couldn't find it! :D
That toro smashed through it nicely 👍
I have to agree, I was pleased. Next job should go smoother with the experience.
That Toro was friggin amazing… what a beast. 👍🏻
It got the job done for sure!
Loved the video! About 180 miles south of Jacksonville it's gone down to about 50 on several recent nights, I reckon it might have been in the 40s for you that morning.
You got it. I think the temperature at the beginning was 38 on the truck display. It warmed up nice, though, hence loosing the hoodie. :)
Always hoped someone would put a video with a brush hog. my hope came true thanks
Really enjoyed this- and it is obvious that you take great pride in your work!!
Thank you very much!
Definitely like watching this video. In my opinion I think you should do more of those
Duly noted!
Another Great Video! Always a pleasure to see your smiling face and optimistic approaches. Also nice to see the fine, well maintained equipment! Sometime do a focus on how to mow/trim around an AC unit. How to avoid throwing clippings into the coil, how to blow debris away from the unit, and how to spot the two refrigerant lines AND control wire so as to avoid damaging them with a string trimmer!
Glad you enjoyed it! Great advice as well!
I’ve always admired you, your family life, and your work ethic. There are several other landscape channels that I follow, but there’s a quality about your presence on TH-cam that is admirable and memorable. It would be easy to post daily routines returning to the same properties each week - and while that may be helpful to those thinking of starting their own business, each of your posts is decidedly different, and packed with humor. Anyone that takes a swipe at you is just plain jealous!
0:01 I see you flexing with that remote start. 🤣🤣
Lol if you got it flaunt it! 🤭
Seeing you work on a really difficult project is in fact entertaining. Keep on including them!
Will do, thank you!
You have septic mounds, but we have septic fields. Mine is on the side of a hill, the lines running the contour of the hill. I can run my Belly mower Kubota 2200 over it to keep it cleaned up, but I do NOT take my larger tractor over it. My Kubota 2200 had 4WD and big balloon tires that help spread the weight, so it has caused no problem. A septic mound is man-made and built up above normal grade. Our septic field has the lines 24" deep so a big difference. All septic systems are not built the same! HA HA
Very nice! Thanks for sharing!
Outstanding! Nice Job! Well done!
Thank you very much!
What a difference in the end! Great work and great bit of luck in find the SD card!
Thank you! I am so happy I found it! 😁
@@CopperCreekCuts and plenty of us viewers will be happy as well if we get to see some footage :) All's well that ends well.
This video is amazing !!!! Love these kind of videos !!!!!!
Thank you!
I LOVE these ones. Thank you.
Thank YOU!
Love that toro brush chopper got to check into one. Great job learned a lot watching you. John from oklahoma
It's a solid machine, more jobs coming on it.
This was a great video! I would love to see more like this!
Thank you!
Loved it, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video Brad. Glad you found that little card, of all the places to find it. 🤣 That TORO did a nice job, didn't think a regular mower would cut that tall jungle. Wow, 38', Phoenix has been hitting heat records for the last couple of days, still very dry though. Stay safe. 👍👍👍👍👍👍😉🇺🇸
I agree, my ride on mower would have struggled greatly!
Brave soul. That is not a neatly organized place at present but you'll be helping get the foundation back in. Amazing to have that house reappearing from the overgrowth. Thanks to the owners son for helping out. That was quite a good job!
Haha, it turned out better than I was hoping, honestly!
Great video. Really enjoyed it.
Awesome, thank you!
Nice work ,it's fun seeing like this video it's good to see this kind of job tough but interesting one keep it up
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yes I really enjoyed watching your video God blessed you from Philippines 👍
That is one hell of a machine 👍cheers from Australia
Completely agree!
That was so satisfying, the cleanup, and fun watching you with the rake toss and batons! Had a friend who was trained, very good, you put her to shame! Lol
I would have loved to have seen the trimming and mowing, don't leave that out!! I subscribed, keep up the good work!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the kind words on my atrocious baton skills! :D
I admire your dedication in putting out good content.
Thank you kindly!
Love the content!
You chopped it down nicely brother 👊
Thank you!
I love when you do video's like this!
Thank you for the feedback!
A video so nice I watched it twice!
Haha, thank you!
Man that’s an…. Interesting property. I particularly like the ancient looking window air conditioners when the house clearly has (or rather had) central air. I can only imagine the condition inside.
Nice job on the clearing though, one of my favorites. That toro really is a beast.
I have seen that sometimes in Florida because the central AC can't keep up (possibly a freon leak that hasn't been addressed or they can't afford to repair so they just add a window unit) or a south facing room that just gets blistered more than the rest of the house. Your guess is as good as mine, though.
The TORO BRC-28 brushcutter was the mini version of the Ventrac 4500. You did a very nice job cutting down the weeds/bushes, and got a lot of exercise.
You're telling me, my knees were sore! :D
Great brush hog! She's a veritable BEAST,
Oh yes!
Nice set up. Gives me something to look forward to in my career
Thanks for watching, I hope you get there one day!
Great video!
Thanks!
I love you found your SD card!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You aren't kidding. I would have cried if I lost it!
Very Good Job Keep it UP!!!
Thank you!
Great video of the whole property transformation just from what you accomplished!
Thank you so much!
Hopefully I can try one of those brush cutters on some of the crazy 8 foot tall yards I do.
They are life savers!
You always do a fantastic job since day one
Thank you kindly!
I always get nervous about what I'm gonna hit doing yards like that lol
Having the brush cutter go first made me feel better!
Fantastic work as usual bro!!! Makes me wish there was a Toro dealer in Barbados. Lord knows it’s suited for a real cleanup in the tropics for sure!
If I ever get down there with it I will look you up! :D
@@CopperCreekCuts most definitely!
Great job and video. From Texas The Lone Star State 🌟. Merry Christmas
Thank you so much!
Nice Brad. Looks fun. 💯
Thanks so much!
That was a good investment buying a Toro. That machine cuts through basically everything! Lol 👍 Good job on the place! 💯👍
It performed wonderfully, thanks for watching!
I love your channel, and for shure you got a new subscriber
Yes more mowing videos like this.. for me I watch for entertainment as I'm not in the mowing business.. Enjoyed seeing the bush cutter taking down that tall grass. Also like the editing with some speed up but with normal speed mixed enjoy transformations so I too would have like to see u finishing up with the finish with mower and trimmer. I love seeing mess turned into order. You did a great job on property.
Awesome feedback, very helpful. Thank you!
im ready for some satisfactory badassery
LOL
That toro is a beast!!! Makes it look easy
So happy I had that puppy!
Loved it! So much fun to see the bush hog in action.
It was fun to run it as well! :D
Yes please!! I like this kind of footage!!
Thanks for the feedback!
I like that you do time stamps
Thank you! I will try to do more!
I absolute loved the vid
Thank you!
Excellent job 👍
Thank you!
Expertly done and the description is worth reading where a break down of the costs is shown. Which I always under bidded myself as well. I'm terrible at setting prices but usually the home owner would make it right if I was too low.
Thank you!
Great job a real challenge for you and your machine! I enjoyed and subscribed! You made this look far nicer for next phase but it surely needs a lot of work on this property! Great job you deserve a perfect 10
Thanks so much!
Agree with everyone, would have loved TY o see more of the refining finish, you had to work hard on that one
I will note that for future videos, thank you!
Hard working young man you are. Lucky you found your card. Be blessed.
Thank you for the kind words!
I LOVE IT!!!
Thank you!
Looking good 👍.
Thank you!
Smart man doesn’t run fire ant mounds over lol…. Gotta love it.
LOL
Great clean up. Little short like to see the other mower work..
I will next time!
Anything requiring a brush hog rocks! 👍🏻
It kicks it up a notch for sure! :D
I came for the mowing...I stayed for the baton twirling.
LOL Too funny!
Love that mowing job with the Toro brush hog Got to check out a toro for my place
It comes in handy for sure!
