  • I haven't had theileria in years!
Plus a tour around our local butcher shop when I pick the meat up that we had home killed

I’m Andrew The Once A Day Farmer, I farm alongside my father on my family dairy farm in New Zealand.
Our Dairy system is quite unique as we only milk our 320 jersey cows 'Once A Day' (hence the name) only in the morning, and they stay outside on grass for 365 days of the year!!

Sad to see a cow get sick especially a young one but you dont want them to suffer and you got the comfort knowing that you got a paddock full of goodlooking heifers at the runoff as replacements

New subscriber from Texas. Thoroughly enjoyed the walk through of the processors. Sorry about such a young cow. Never get used to it, but that’s life when you raise stock. Just do what’s necessary and carry on.

I really miss having homegrown beef and pork, nothing in the world like it! But alas, no more beef cows on the farm, just row crops and timber. :-(

Manuka smoked meats sound amazing. We've only fairly recently gotten Manuka honey available in our area and that's not a flavor you forget easily!

I am recently disabled and while away my hours watching Farming videos on TH-cam...I watch them more than I do the normal TV.
I have ended up creating my own list of Young Farming Legends and thought I would recommend the following channels that always carry interesting and engaging content. I am posting this comment on all the Legends Channels in order that fellow viewers can take a look and see if they enjoy them as much as I do. So here is my list:
    My Farming Legends:
    The Sheep Game
    JM Farming
    Tom Pemberton Farm Life
    Olly's Farm
    Farming at La Forge
    This Farming Life (Series2)
    Once a Day Farmer
    I farm We Farm
A big thank you to all of the above TH-camrs and please keep up the good work

Was that for both cattle? You couldn't buy all that from a butcher here it would cost a couple of thousand at least! Donna was super with all the information ! And it's a great business they have too! Thank you for the share! I say you won't starve that's for sure!!

Awesome video as always Andrew. Cracking job with the roof, your dad must be pleased. Fantastic tour around the local butchers, very interesting and informative, awesome the way she does those sausages, even you didn’t distract her, great viewing mate. Sad news about the heifer. Was that a rav4 you were driving. Thanks for sharing mate.

    • @TheOnceADayFarmer
      @TheOnceADayFarmer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yep it’s a RAV4, dad brought it a while back so my wife can bring the kids on farm easily, plus it’s a handy little farm car, you can also zip into town in it too so much more practical than a four wheeler motorbike. Quite a lot of dairy farmers use them over here 👍

I've had cows go off there feed after they get milk fever, I hit them with warm electrolytes to up the energy levels and a B12 jab to stimulate there appetite again
It seems to work if you get them early enough
