    I just finished replacing the oil sending unit on my 2000 Dodge Dakota with a 4.7 v8. Once you take the oil filter off it's very easy to get to took about 15 minutes

    Have a 99 Dakota and the check gauges light was on plus the oil reading was at zero then it would magically rise back up to normal level and after a few minutes quit again. Immediately i freaked out but calmed down and changed the oil and filter. So far everything is running fine. It seems your filter can clog. You get a dead space where there is no fluid and this leads up to burning up your pump. Routine maintenance. I let my last oil change go to long. So i learned a valuable lesson. Its only been a month or two over the time limit but the cheap filter was the issue. Hope this helps some of you.

    There's a specific socket for those sensors. I guess you got a 6 point and it was slightly loose. Not sure why they didn't make it a standard shape head. Thanks for the video!

    I wish you had made a better explanation of how to get the connector off the sensor. That's what I'm trying to do at the moment, but "There's a little tab at the end that locks it into this thing here" doesn't do it for me. I agree, it's very awkward to get at. I've tried looking at the top of it with a mirror, but I don't want to force it and break the plastic, and at the moment, I just can's see what needs to be done.

      @@kd_enterprise3404 Thanks for the response, but you only had the pressure sensor at the kitchen table. You can't show how two pieces mate if you only have one of the pieces to demonstrate with. You said about the little tab, which "moves up or down" (you didn't seem too sure), and I could see a little tab on mine, but I couldn't move it without applying so much force that it would break. Eventually, after looking at other videos that also did not explain the operation, I just forced the plastic connector off the pressure sensor, and it came off with a loud click that made me believe that I had broken something - but in fact, it clipped onto the new one OK, and the oil pressure light behaves itself now. As the connector was still connected to the vehicle by its wire, I was unable to get it off to clean it and discover how the clip worked - but through brute force and ignorance, it came off, and thankfully, went back on again.

    My son's 2002 Ford Escape is knocking really loud near the top of the motor we're trying to figure out if it would be maybe the oil pump any ideas?

    • @kd_enterprise3404
      @kd_enterprise3404  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dave Lansfolk not familiar with the escape, but if the engine light is on or if it has a pressure gauge check those. If knocking with the engine light on then could be an oil pressure issue. (Could be something worse).. but if all that looks ok find an upper cylinder/valve cleaning product, my thought is a valve is stuck. In the old days to loosen valves we would pour transmission fluid down the carburetor while the engine was running to achieve.. can’t recommend that though.. lol.. check into seafoam product.. I’ve never used but many think it’s very good...

    • @Roller76
      @Roller76 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    my 08 passat gave a notice saying oil pressure switch turned off and for some reason the car won't start
    don't know if that's the same thing I should do

    • @kd_enterprise3404
      @kd_enterprise3404  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This you can try, perhaps you did already
      1. make sure you actually have oil in the car
      2. try disconnecting battery, could be the computer just needs a restart.
      3. check the manual for fuses related to dash panel, perhaps a fuse is blown
      4. it could very well just be the switch, and they designed the car to shut off, I'm not familiar with the Passat
      5. it might be worth while to buy a ODB reader, you can get those cheap these days.
      6. could be an actual electronic failure or perhaps the oil pump has failed...at which point it might be take to the garage time.
      With my truck it kept running, so it was easy to tell no real issue existed, because if the engine is not getting oil it will quit in a hurry.. if the oil pump system is starting to fail gradually you should have noticed lower than normal oil pressure and commonly you will start to hear engine noises like ticking and latter stage knocking (which is bad because engine damage is occurring) Hope this helps.. I'd be interested to hear back from you when resolved.

      Kevin Dotson My oil sensor (for a 2102 5.7 Dodge Citadel) is located right next to the oil filter. It requires a 1 1/16” Deep socket to remove. Push the little red clip through the retainer (but will not completely come out) and pull the wire harness. You will loose a little more about a tablespoon of oil when you remove the old sensor so have a rag to do a little wiping. Don’t over tighten the new sensor because it looks you can easily crank it up and end up really screwed! Disconnect the battery to reset the engine dummy light to turn off. Start the vehicle and check for leaks.

    • @DownhillAllTheWay
      @DownhillAllTheWay 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Malachishouse That's a good idea! When I took mine out, lying on my back under the car, I tried to put my finger over the hole to stop the oil, but I hadn't noticed (because it was hidden behind other bits of engine) that there were two holes, about the same size, and about an inch apart - and I was holding my finger over the wrong one, with the result that the oil filter emptied itself, running down my arm and completely covering all my arm-skin and saturating my tee-shirt.
      Yeah - taking the filter off first is a real nifty idea!

    my cars low engine pressure light comes on, sometimes it takes 10 minutes after it starts up, sometimes an hour or a few, but the light only stays up for about 2 minutes (I only kept driving it because I was very close to home, and right as I got home it turned off right before I got there). I changed the oil already today and filter and the light still comes on.
    Theres no engine codes or no sound like a knock from the engine at all. Does it usually show up an engine code besides the low oil pressure light? 2006 monte carlo btw

      Joe Quiroz well I’d assume it would have quit by now if no oil..It could be the gauge or even some electrical issue, poor connection or a wire that’s partially broken, there is a possibility it’s just not putting out pressure at idle. I have a question. I have a 2000 dakota 4.7, during idle my oil pressure is right below 40 and as I drive it goes up towards the line after the 40. As I hit a red lint the pressure drops below 40. Is that normal for these dakotas?

    • @kd_enterprise3404
      @kd_enterprise3404  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The oil pressure should remain stable when at idle or driving. If the needle is moving around its either the sensor or the oil pump, possibly a poor electrical connect at the sensor or along the path.. or at worst some sort of blockage. If its always been like that I would not worry too much. I just listen to the sound of the engine, if its not getting oil that's the biggest concern, the sound will change. if it starts knocking or ticking then worry, shut it down.. If you have not changed the oil or if you just got the truck do an oil and filter change and make sure its all topped up. I'm hesitant to suggest running an engine cleaner through as that can sometimes cause more trouble than good..

    • @alexanderestk
      @alexanderestk 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      K&D_Enterprise Well the needle stays within the normal range at all times. I’ve got mixed answers. Some say it should stay put. Some say it’s normal for oil pressure to drop while at idle because no load is on the engine and as you drive it creates pressure which causes the needle to rise. I suppose I’ll call a mechanic and ask.
      I haven’t noticed a leak and it has fresh oil which I just Added Seafoam but Ill replace it already with Mobil1 high mileage.

    • @kd_enterprise3404
      @kd_enterprise3404  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its sounds like all is good, the needle will move a little. So many variables. As you say, its staying within a range. Only worry if it starts doing unexpected things from what you have experienced so far. Thanks for checking the video out.

    • @Roller76
      @Roller76 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexanderestk A few things, oil brand wont make a difference. The only difference with oil is standard or synthetic and thickness, which should be 5/30. Seafoam wont do squat. Seafoam is added to the fuel system so it's not going to help oil flow. And if there isn't any issues with the truck running then what's the problem? If there is running issues I would've asked a mechanic or go online to a Dodge truck forum with Dodge enthusiasts that can help you.

    • @alexanderestk
      @alexanderestk 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dan Coles I own a 2020 Colorado now. I added sea foam to the engines oil for cleaning purposes not the fuel. I would have wrote fuel not oil if I did. Also, I wrote “mixed answers” which refers to the forums that you’re implying.
