- These Dexmo haptic force feedback gloves from Dexta Robotics look like something straight out of a Sci-Fi movie! The Dexmo haptic gloves have an exoskeleton to restrict your fingers movements to provide the sensation of feeling virtual objects in Virtual Reality. I try out the Dexmo gloves myself with the Valve Index and give you my thoughts on whether these haptic gloves are the future of virtual reality...

Lol funny but it’s safe, they aren’t that strong and people aren’t that weak. you can over power em
@Clever name Right here but people will want better gloves to feel recoil and what not. Then this might be a possibility so new safety mechanisms might be standard
For a glove to be able to brake your fingers it needs to have the capability to bend in a way your fingers can’t, which will never happen. Worrying about a glove breaking your fingers is like worrying about a vending machine spitting out a can at the speed of a bullet and killing you.
exactly what i was thinking

Wait, what if you combine these gloves, a valve index, a high power PC, a full haptic suit, and the temperature face thing, do you get a fully immersive VR set for the low low price of like, a Lamborghini?
I'm super curious how it would be I would think there are two types ones that would be immersed and ones like me that would immediately notice the missing stimuli and be disappointed. Really though I question vr viability if you're going to need more doodads and gizmos to get immersed.

I always imagine the endgame of VR haptics for games like a horror game and being able to reach into a drain or area you can't see into and being able to feel a key or something just by touch and be able to pull it out. That would be so cool. Right now you have to put things in slightly obvious places but being able to use touch would make things so much more immersive. I can't wait for the future.

Virtual Reality Oasis no worries bro keep doing it thing
Why am I watching this? I will never be able to buy this.
Same!
Same...
you would be surprised how simple and cheap this will be in the next 20 yrs
When the first VR headsets came out, they cost $600-1000 and the GTX 970 (the bare minimum for VR) was apparently $400 at it launch. Then you had to have all the other parts for a PC. Now those same parts will be a LOT cheaper, you can get even a GTX 1070 used for around $200 and the Oculus Quest 2 is $350! The point is that tech gets cheaper over time. In 20 years these $1000 headsets will be like old CRT monitors right now
Save for 1yrs at 5% int and wallah! Ready to buy one ... (1 yrs later: those arent in the market yet. And the company stoped working on them ... Moved on to other projects)
I love the idea of this becoming a widespread thing, almost as much as finger tracking after these companies who develop this technology optimize the hardware and get it at an affordable price. This kind of tech would be amazing in place of your standard controllers, easily so much more immersive!!

I like the look of these - still no element of 'weight' since there's no restriction on elbows or shoulders (which HaptX are still working on I believe) - I agree about the temperature element of haptic feedback - that's why I was attracted to HaptX back when they were still called AxonVR. I know Destin from Smarter Every Day, has tried the HaptX gloves and seemed pretty impressed - so if you get the chance to try those that would be good (for a 'side by side' comparison).
Thing is, I feel like immersion is gonna be tough when you’re wearing 5 Kilos of hard, plastic equipment. Especially when trying to immerse in a game that doesn’t involve wearing gear.

Imagine this: you have a full haptic virtual reality set and with more technology you can sense smell and taste which makes the experience feel real.
Mike the kind of guy to get a phd in science just to use the expensive vr tech
I think the future of this type of technology will end with a glove like sleeve you put on. This way it can better simulate sensations, and perhaps a sleeker skeleton that pushes your fingers like this one does. I am definitely interesting in this as a consumer, and I need it for games like VR paradise, Kanojo VR, etc.... I mean I need it for budget cuts.
and the end of it all will be a direct connection to the brain, bypassing everything for the ultra slick experience.
