    What a sad emotional day, seeing these lovely majestic Hercules C-130s on their final flypast to mark their retirement that's 56 years of Service with the RAF... Feel free to share!!
    Visiting all four nations of the UK, the Hercules C-130J is a tactical transport aircraft that has been in service since 1966.
    Described by the RAF as the "backbone of UK operational tactical mobility tasks", Hercules's defensive system makes it ideal for operating in regions where there is a threat to aircraft.
    Now after the Hercules took its last operational flight on June 4 with the 47 Squadron, takes a retirement flypast across the UK.
    No.47 Squadron will be stood down and its Standard laid up for a period at College Hall Officers’ Mess, RAF College Cranwell, until reformed.

      But you're gettin gthe Airbus A400M as a replacement.

    • @warwickkinscher5986
      @warwickkinscher5986 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      A400M - larger, faster, more payload and more range - but nowhere near as versatile, and still a long way from proving to be as rugged, particularly when operating in remote regions. A400M moves a lot of stuff from point A to point B, but the C130 moves it from point A directly to where it’s needed. Retiring the C130 means the RAF has severely curtailed its flexibility. Like any western military, the RAF is a servant of the government, so you gotta love those “far sighted” (I think not!) pollies.

      @@abikeanditsboy3449 it's too big to do the job the herc does, only a moronic government would get rid of the herc, want to drop troops on or evac people or Cargo from short dirt strip in the middle if nowhere? Your going to need a herc to do that.

    My "joy" on one of these was in 1985 as a jolly from Ascension Island on the airbridge to the Falklands, watched out the back for air to air refuelling of another Herc of 1312 Sqn, These will be sorely missed as they have years of flying time left on the airframe. Cheers for sharing this with us Elwyn, doff my old beret to you.

I got to know the Herc over 11 years, flew many hours in them, around the world; saw many Air Displays featuring them...(.incidentally, it was never called Fat Albert then)......

In 92 i flew from Brize Norton to Kenya via Cyprus in one and parachuted in. Also had the great honour to parachute into France for the 50th anniversary of D-Day. Excellent fly pass by the C-130 Hercules aircrafts. I personally will miss these life savings aircraft. Flown on many of these aircraft during my 24-year career in the military. Even casualty Evacuated me several times, and once flew me back to the UK at low level because the RAF hospital consultants suspected that i had a serious brain tumour, turned out to be 3 inch spine compression from a high velocity impact with the ground, and wreaked both legs completely at the same time. I will miss the old boys called Fat Albert, especially seeing them fly through the Welsh valleys below us on top of the mountains. I hope many will continue to fly and be saved as working museum aircraft,. Enjoy you retirement, may the new replacement aircraft be at least as good has these RAF work horses were. 😢😊.

    My Dad was in Beaufighters and Mosquitoes with 47 Squadron during WWII and my older brother spent most of his 23 years in the RAAF in Hercules - small world.

    I cannot believe that the RAF have retired the Herc.
    This footage is a fitting farewell to an iconic RAF workhorse.

    Fantastic video mate. Thank you. Gutted because my mother in law lives right under the flight path in Alrewas and I missed it. I once seen a Lancaster fly right over over her home about 10 years ago and what a majestic sight it was!

    Brilliant Elwyn 👏 nice build up gives a sense of atmosphere on the hill, would have loved to catch the farewell on east but opted for the lakes instead, i got a lovely shot all 3 coming out of Dunmail towards me, a day I'll not forget for a while.

    How sad and the end of an era.... As a British squaddy I flew from BAOR to N/Ireland in a Herc, sharing the aircraft with a number of war dogs in cages whom barked and whined the whole way and stank of pxxs.... I flew over the Falklands sound in a Herc that refuelled, at the time, Phantoms and after a suggestion by the load master hung through the whole where the fuel supply pipe edged in and out to get a picture of the Phantom pilot waving at me.... Happy happy and simple days... Oh to be young again... 😊
