When comparing graphs make sure the average distance between the measurements is at its lowest as opposed to matching the 800hz points as its all relative to volume. Thats why the xuanwu looks so much more v shaped and is sitting above the gumiho graph. It IS more v shaped, but likely these IEMs sound more similar along the rest of the graph and relatively the xuanwu have a deeper 800 hz dip.
Thanks for info. I'd say my graph on Gumiho was slightly off also and that set had some unit variation. I don't know if either SPD 1.0 set lived on past Pandamon.
Measurement difference might be explained by tips used. Around 8k area is the rig's resonance, so could differ with how deep you shove the IEM into it.
Maybe, usually 2 or 3 measurements are closer to each other. And I am used to seeing specific differences between my graphs and Ian's, but usually not that much. It was more of a curiosity that his graphed so close to Gumiho. In the big picture, I am sure TRN has moved on to SPD 2.0 or another planar.
@@PaulWasabii I am wondering why they added BA. Was it for originality (like on DUNU Talos) or did they find SPD really lacking in some areas? The former would be like a fifth leg for a cat. But we should have SPD figured out and improved by the end of 2023. Confusion with SPD and true planars reminds me of "electrostatic" drivers in Shuoer Tape. Not exactly like true ESTs.
Hey Paul, Happy New Years! I noticed you have the Ehiku graphed and was just wondering what your thoughts are on it? The setup looks promising but the graph really threw me off with the uppermids scoop. How does it affect vocals, staging, tech etc? Thanks man. Keep up the great work!
No one is going to touch the Ehiku. I actually sent it around to friends who are fans of Lokahi and Hekili. Ehiku might work for someone, but I think they took a risk and didn't pay off. I would wait and see what they come up with next.
I'm listening to these right now and can safely say your graph is correct (please add this to squiglink, I dont see your graph there). I dont hear any dips at 4.5-5-6 kHz. countrary my right ear starts to hear peak at 6 khz (unfortunately my ears seem to be different). But even my left ear doesnt have dip at 6 kHz /I added +2.5 dB at 5.5 kHz though/. Your graph is correct at 3.5 there is elevation - I did minus 3.5 db, your elevation is lower but I also did minus 2 dB at 3 kHz. For me +10 dB pinna gain is too shouty, because I listen on lound volumes 92-94 dB/, at 4 -5 kHz for me sound almost perfect, I only changed + minus 0.5-1 dB. I didnt finish yet, when I do - I will edit this message. Even now I can say that XuanWu will sound great with proper EQ, very good sound hidden behind this horrible tuning, bass has low distortion and sound very fast when you drop it to BadGuy target or Harman Target, I even can hear low reverberations in electronic music. But I guess nobody cares, TRN should have done proper tuning, because nobody is going to EQ them and listen only from PC. p.s. just finished it, I almost became deaf while doing this. reason of horrible sound is not bad BA (well, maybe it's bad since it has so high Q peaks), but very bad tuning. No, I wouldn't buy this over any set. If you are looking for a SPD+BA config, go with Kinera Celest. If you just want a great budget set, that is Wan'er.
Most annoying sounding iems I’ve even owned, the mid treble is irritating and higher trebles simply don’t exist. They’ve been in the drawer even since.
I am not sure where they went wrong, the graph looks better than it sounds. I think they cut costs on the BA which is extremely important in this configuration.
@@PaulWasabii I said to this commenter in another video that they're basically a warmer DQ6 as they have similar FR. Somehow this manages to sound darker than it though. I'm keeping it for the SPD but having two sets tuned pretty much the same (aside from the bass boost) bugs me.
Happy 2023 Paul.
You too, thanks for all the comments and feedback during the year.
Happy new year!
