Rear wheel removal & refitting on a Shaft driven Kawasaki Nomad 1600

How I remove a motorcycle rear wheel on a Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1600 and replacing it. REMEMBER TO PUMP THE REAR BRAKE PEDDLE BEFORE RIDING!!! Do not try this if you don’t know what you are doing. I am not advising anyone on how to do this. I am not a mechanic!! I am showing how I do it.

Thanks for this video dude. My 2003 is mint, but new to me as of last year so this is just rear tire change I’m facing. Only one local shop will touch it because of age and that shop wants $250 just in labor alone for doing the job.

Having just finished doing this like 5minutes before typing it's definitely doable.
Yeah if your shop is wanting $250 id do it to avoid paying that.
If they want something more reasonable it might be worth paying it.
Honestly getting the splines on the wheel onto the ones in the hub on reassembly was the hardest part of either removal or reinstall

I got mine from Super Cheap Auto when it was on special. Mine is a little wobbly but it seems safe enough if your careful

I just changed the engine on my Kawasaki sixteen hundred but the f I light comes on. It says go to the yellow light. Can you tell me? Can it be another color beside yellow? Or is it a mixed yellow?

I have the 2007 mean streak, I can't see what you did on the left side
, I don't have bags or anything else there but what do you do with the transmission,
what bolts? my manual is not at all clear.

I held the other side with another shifter to stop it spinning.

Thanks, I've never heard the term 'shifter' ,
I watched the shop do this, looks like you don't
necessarily have to lockdown the other side
if the axle shaft grease is pretty much dried up.
This job is pretty easy once you've done it, but a bit
of a mystery if you haven't.

i am up to the part where you put it back on, i tried to do it without watching what you did, i couldnt get it. came back in and put the video on and you literally just power lift the tyre on to the cogs. guess i will go and try it that way too.

What size wrench for the brake caliper, my allen/hex wrench seems too loose.

Can’t remember. Try the next size up if it isn’t a tight fit. Try imperial and metric. I use the one that fits the best.

Right, thanks, I got it done last week, it's about 8mm,I had to use a shim to get a tight fit, I had the rest of
it done at a shop, last week.The manual was useless to me, the keeper nut
on the axle is 27mm I believe , the shop just used
a big wrench it's not on that tight and has a cotter
pin locking it up.

Do you know if there are 2 axle collars or just the one in the final drive?

I was wondering how many spacers/collars there were. Turns out there are two, one long tube-like one that nests in the final drive and another much smaller one on the other end of the axle.

Turns out the Kawasaki place i took my wheels to get the tires mounted lost the little spacer. At least partially my fault for leaving it in the wheel, fml
