@@drakkiusgaming It's not just cats either. There was one story about a paranormal investigator who used to bring animals with him to help detect the presence of ghosts. In one house that was supposed to be haunted, a cat, a dog and a snake all reacted unusually to one particular chair in a second-floor room. The snake immediately reared up and made threat displays at the empty chair. The cat also puffed itself up and started hissing and spitting at the same chair. The dog meanwhile immediately snarled and barked at the chair, then ran from the room and refused to go back. All 3 animals did not exhibit any unusual behaviour in other parts of the house. Of course, if you were skeptical you could say that the investigator had trained his animals to do that kind of behaviour on cue and there was actually nothing wrong with that particular chair, although cats and especially snakes can be tricky to train to do stuff on command.

It's a pretty common myth that cats can tell when a place is haunted, and that's why you often see them staring at nothing.
Its kind of been a thing that animals have this weird connection with the supernatural.
Well izutsumi isn't necessarily a natural cat people, so there's an actual reason to why she's a bit more sensitive to souls in general

I loved this manga and the fact it got an anime is great. I still say the author had to be a fan of Monster Hunter to come up with this idea
