I would get so irritated dealing with dry down on FB ,I finally just did the work to figure out the actual time factor needed to ensure the print looked how I wanted after drydown. Then I’d print so it looked great while wet and just subtract the factor for dry down ,saved a lot of paper and aggrevation. I’ve also heard the most recent Ilford MG RC paper is a very good proofing paper with similar enough exposure and paper grade similarity to FB glossy. You can zero in your exposure and grade contrast and dodging burning so you can transfer to FB without so much cost in paper and way less time. I was just on the verge of taking my darkroom down but you’ve inspired me to keep it going👍

Thank your sharing your darkroom experience. I did Photography at school in the 1970's and have embarked on building a darkroom in my garage in Adelaide, South Australia. I shoot 35mm and am also a camera collector. It's really good to see someone printing photos on paper again. So many people only view photographs on back-lit screens. And some photographers get their films developed at a lab, the scans are sent and they don't even pick up the film, go figure. I would also like to experiment with printing off a smartphone screen in the enlarger. Also glad to see that FB means fibre based and not Facebook. You are the Vivian Maier of the 21st century.

      I love Vivian Maier’s work! So that’s a huge compliment 🥹. Thank you 💗.
I’m super grateful for being able to share my film experience. It makes me super happy to share my darkroom with you all.
And thanks for reminding me. I need to scan a lot of negatives 😅. I really tend to push that aside.

This session reminds me so many things I experienced many years ago. Same film, same papers and so many hours to get the better print I could... I think you got a beautiful result and maybe a last print with more care about this line would be the good one. Your photo deserves it. This video could send me back to the darkroom. I think nothing matches the beauty of a FB paper.

Great photo, great print. It has a lot of emotion and personality, Maggie comes through strong!
    Also, hi Vivianna's husband :)
I'm more a fan of matt paper, recently I've been playing with glossy and semi-matt warmtone papers. Glossy is still too much I think but I'm digging the semi-matt, I like the deeper blacks I can get! For the warmtone, I'd suggest to try using warmtone developer and then lightly selenium-tone them (I do like 30s in 1+4 diluted Harman selenium toner). Too much selenium toning seems to make the warmtone prints purple but just a little takes away the greenish cast and I get really beautiful, warm blacks...
Either way, thank you for making these long, patient darkroom printing videos, they're really enjoyable and I think they ought to show new film photographers the beauty of the process...

Thanks!! I’m super happy you liked the print and that you are enjoying my videos ❤️. I’m enjoying making them a lot.
You know, I’ve never tried selenium - tone or any type of toning. I should look into it. Thank you for reminding me.

That’s awesome! I hope your loving it so far. I was always in awe my first years in photo class and kinda still am. That’s the beauty of film photography. The magic never gets old ✨.

Wow! And here's a tip. I've seen Aleksey Myakishev use a transparent foil with a black dot on it to dodge, which I think is genius. I just wave my hands with dodging & burning.

I normally use my hands too when dodging and burning.

Will do! I think that’s a great idea.
I actually did that for an upcoming video which I will share in September. It’s a project that I can’t share more at the moment but I’m super excited about!
The only reason I didn’t do it before was because I’m super bad about scanning my negatives 😅. I find it be tedious and boring but I agree it would be helpful to do so.

Thanks! It needs a new light bulb. I bought a new one weeks ago but once I turned on the enlarger it popped 🤦🏻‍♀️. So I’m going to buy a voltage regulator before I get another light bulb. But I also noticed my color filters were off. I’m going to buy a beseler manual so I can better understand the mechanics of those filters. It’s been a hassle.

They came out very well. It should be easy to get the light seals on your camera replaced, or to do it yourself.

      Thanks! 🦋
But I don’t think my camera has any issues with the light seals. I took photos since then and they came out great. No light leaks. I think I must have not closed the roll of film completely tight enough🥲.
I carry rubber bands with me now. To make sure the rolls of film stay tightly wrapped.
