As a Chinese, I was born in 1992. I remember when I was a child, it took me 4 hours by car to travel from my hometown Mount Emei to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. Later, the expressway was opened to traffic, and it only took me 2 hours. Later, the high-speed train opened, and it only took 30 minutes. Now, I am working in Shenzhen, returning to mount Emei from Shenzhen during my vacation. The whole journey of 1800 kilometers is actually all highway. If you take the high-speed train, it only takes 7 hours. I would leave in the morning and come home at 6 p.m. for dinner cooked by my father. This was unthinkable when I was a child. Salute and respect to the builders

It’s a shame for all the different countries in Europe, at least in this aspect. It’s seems difficult to organise international high speed rail infrastructure, even with the EU and all the agreements we have in Europe. But also I think Ryanair and all the other budget airlines make train rides longer than 5-7 hours less beneficial.

@Heather Larson China has a form of democracy too. It's just different. They have a sing party democracy, where you elect local people to represent you and they can work their way up in government, depending on how well they govern small local places. It is a merit based system, but it is still quite democratic. But they view "democracy" different than the way we view it in the west.

Humanity ultimate goal should always be improvement in all areas, China has different interpretations of democracy which differ from the western view, but ultimately the goal is improvement of all people's lifes, democracy should be a tool to achieve better society not the ultimate goal, and that's where western fails to understand everytime, their limited view limits themselves to be unable to see the big picture and in long term, everyone in different nations with different history, culture and mentality have different view and ways of doing things, it's not surprising that wherever west tries to impose their model of "democracy" by violence if needed it ultimately fails, they just don't get it.

@@ParadoxRoyal I'm not talking about the ruling classes because these people have their own agendas that don't necessary have in consideration the population's needs, I'm talking about regular people in particular the westerners and that they should understand that everybody no matter where they're from they all want a good life but that doesn't necessarily mean that they want the same that you have or do things or think the same as you. I find that most of the time when talking with westerners they all repeat what the ruling classes and media says, "we're BETTER because we have DEMOCRACY, so you should be like us", that for me is arrogance, ignorance and intellectual laziness, that or the western propaganda and brainwashing machine is just too damn good.

I think we can distinguish between its totalitarian rule, its subjects and its successes.
Truly China's new middle class, taking up 1/3 of the population appreciates the change and direction, even though many people have loss money investing in property, many of whom actually borrowed money at the behest of the CCP.
I imagine that 50 years from now, when I'm long gone, the middle class will be larger, hopefully more stable and a fledgling democracy will be under way.

I am speechless, they are from another world and no other country can be compare to them, because they can not be categorized in such simple terms. They are not just a country, they are a civilization; and they understand that they haven't been here for just a while like some of our countries. They are planing to be here for another 2000 years more.
The rest of the world can only admire them.
Yes they are not perfect, they have made mistakes. But I strongly believe that they are the finest, the greatest civilization that this world has ever produced, the ones that have been called to even go to explore other planets in the future and to be the ambassadors of humankind.
    God bless them.

While I will never take anything from China's impressive infrastructure achievements of the last 20 years, to wax and wane that they are the " ambasssadors of human kind " to the other planets is just stupid hyperbole.
Try visiting the interior of China and see the wanton pollution and destruction they had done to their environment. Witness the anger of the Hong Kong people against the Chinese politburo in the mainland. See the anger of the Philippines, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Tibetans, Taiwanese, Ueghurs at the hands of the Han Chinese! STEALING without shame islands that does not belong them in the South China Sea and China's belligerence that they will not honor the ruling of the world court against their claim in the South China Sea.
Lets dwell on TRUTH please otherwise you seem to have stars in your eyes swallowing this propaganda. The Chinese are no different from any overbearing, bullying world power. " Ambassadors of humankind to other planets??? " Please......get real.

Chinese civilization is very complicated. Let’s say when qin shi Huang United the nation and create the Han Chinese civilization. The huge number of Chinese people become one huge family united by very very strong sense of civilization. They are not loyal to the idea of country but every dynasty of China is loyal to this civilization. Which is the key reason why Chinese are so good at survival and unification.

When I landed in Hong Kong, I had to take a small van operated by a private company to reach in-land China. Having dealt with Airport traffic and being told its a 35 km drive, i fully expected it to take a few hours and I was worried I might miss my connecting flight. I was shocked to have the entire trip take about 40 minutes including the customs into China. The entire trip was high way with all traffic going at 80-90 km per hour but fully packed. 75-80% of the way are suspension bridges or otherwise elevated above the city and the entire trip felt like you are gliding between buildings, the mountain and the sea. It was truly eye opening to see intersecting and different level of high ways weaving above and below you. All the while you are flying pass bridges thats as long as the Sydney Harbour bridge but without the huge steel structure. As an Australian, it feels like a sci-fi movie that you see in stuff like blade runner.
If our beloved Sydney international airport had about 15% of the traffic I saw that day, we'd be jamming up a news worthy storm. Watching the NSW government expanding the M5 into our airport by adding 1 or 2 lanes are laughable in comparison.

北美匪帮反人类纳粹集团 北美匪帮反人类纳粹集团 that's what china has been doing for 70 years now, and is still doing. The difference is that USA and the Wests and India, etc, have even more to learn from China, yet they have too big of an ego to ever admit it. Just see coronavirus.
When you can't ever say anything good about China, and even when something good must be bad just because China did it, and you must do the opposite of chins every time, that just means you are destroying yourself as propaganda. This is not a sustainable or winning strategy, since China has no problem learning or copying from those who are better than China.
Right now it's the opposite of what you say, China has lessened and caught up with the west already, and is already world leader in many technologies and industries. Like 5g, hypersonic glide vehicles, AI, quantum satellites/networks, big scale engineering/projects, high speed rail, electric vehicles, all green tech since China is world leader in green tech, ie 3 gorges dam, worlds largest solar power array along with battery to store it, etc etc.
USA will stay on coal and fossil fuel just because China is embracing green tech an dominates the associated technology and industries. China/Xi just stated to UN general assembly few days ago that China will reach peak emissions by 2030(!), and be CARBON NEUTRAL BY 2060(!!!). This was a unilateral statement and goal, one that China will do no matter what USA or India or anyone else does. China has met all her Paris accord obligations, years early in fact. China is now leading by example, and setting the model for the world to follow. From covid to climate change and green tech, China will literally save the world and humanity.
Did I mention that China is the only permanent UN Security Council member who hasn't had s war in 40+ years now? Only one who can say that, while USA has been at war for like 246 out of 250 years of total history. No one, especially great power/superpower, should copy from USA, especially foreign policy.. Because it will destroy the world. Heck, USA is currently destroying itself already. Just see covid and state of politics and political system in USA, it's a joke and the world used to laugh, but now it's just turned into pity.

The US has a river system that is connected, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio rivers, etc + the Eastern Seaboard with natural harbors... they don't need to build anything and they already have the best infrastructure for transporting goods right in their heartland. US vs China train track length: 150k vs 131k (the US had 400k at its peak, but trains are not the best way of transporting goods any more). Roadways US vs China: 6.8 vs 4.8 million km. In expressways China leads 142k vs 108k. China also leads in bullet trains as the US never invested in this technology. International airports US vs China: 102 vs 65. Air traffic is also very restricted in China because of the military exclusion zones.

Western countries build hospitals and school in the name of humanitarian in Africa. The only problem, there were not enough electricity, to run the hospital. And no road for kids to go to schools. China came in, builds roads and power plans. Basically the article said that the African countries don't need hands out and pity from the developing countries.
