If you haven't seen it yet, Operator Starsky did an absolutely fabulous first person account of the fight for the Hostomel airport the first day of the invasion. You're going to have to go back to February of 2022 to see it, but it is so so worth it. This account absolutely has to be in every book about the war.
Starsky brings a certain maturity and balance to the commentary. Always a factual and interesting contribution to the discussion. He’s one of the few commentators who can speak in terms of “we” when discussing what is his own country. Always great to hear his point of view for these reasons.
Starsky operating on his usual calmly reassuring, authorative manner. I hope at the end of all this horror the Ukrainian government and people reward this young man for his efforts.

Is there any evidence that DPRK troops are any better trained than those from Somalia or any of the other star’s Russia keeps recruiting from? I have huge respect for this man and all his fellow soldiers in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As a soldier myself, I am impressed with his insight, bravery and steadfast dogged determination in the face of having to fight a war with one hand effectively tied behind their backs. The Ukrainian innovation and ability to adapt and overcome as well as their openness to trying out new tactics and mixing and matching doctrines to suit the situation together with their humbleness are, to me, characteristics of truly excellent soldiers. This linked to the truly incredible attitude of all Ukrainians in the face of the devastation meted out by the numerically superior Russian Forces is marvellous and humbling to watch. I only wish the Ukrainians could be armed properly with a reliable supply of materiel and allowed the freedom to use this same materiel as they wish, unhampered by foreign restrictions.
