Facts!!! My mother actually told me she was going to raise me me hard, and have me go without because she that’s what she went through and she wanted me to know how it feels. I also wasn’t allowed to go to college because she didn’t. I did have to work as a teenager to fend for myself, but plenty of times my mother took my whole paycheck, because she was entitled to it as she gave birth to me. She also jacked my credit up before I was 20. Now here’s the kicker, years later I brought this up to my mother’s brothers and they all said she’s lying. That my grandmother gave her everything and my mother was just a narcissist.

I realized yesterday that I spent 4 years trying to decide because people have said things like "I need to choose" and spent eight years all together because of other people trying to influence me. But I can do all the things. I've done so many other jobs and if I had just done what I thought of I'd be better off. Live and learn ya know.

Big Tip: Be VERY careful who you date and marry. Nothing can ruin someone's future like a terrible relationship. You like bad boys and wild girls? You are gonna ruin your life. Find someone who is kind, loving, supportive, smart and fair; someone who isn't needy and won't blow your money or have you in a rough situation.
Also, DO NOT and I repeat...DO NOT become a single parent (no offense to the author of this video.) Too many girls are having kids too early and by accident. I point out women in particular because men still make more than women on average and are more likely to be financially stable enough to handle a single father home. Women are more at risk of becoming poor.
Marry before you carry. It is a statistical fact, that single motherhood is almost a fast track to poverty. It is very stressful and difficult coming up when you are stuck with another mouth to feed for 18 years, all by yourself. Don't be sleeping around with every person you think is attractive. Be intentional. Guard your womb, reserve your seed. Build a firm, loving, mature relationship with a man or woman. Before you get married, make sure you both have beliefs that places marriage on a sacred level. Neither one of you should accept that divorce is a light thing. Once you've established a true bond with each other, then bring children into the equation. You both work together to increase your finances and make the home a smooth place of selfless love and stability.
Again, who you decide to pair yourself with, can change the entire trajectory of your future. Be wise.

Point 3 is doable but 1 and 2 is completely out of one's control. Being a single parent is very tricky the partner can leave, cheat on you, die so how can you tell people to do something they can't control. And for the first point people can change their true colours yes im not saying people should date with blinders but if only you knew sociopaths and nacs then please come back with better Advice

I’d like to add ladies and gentlemen to not wait to take control of your heath with healthy eating habits and exercise. Too many people waiting till their 30’s, and by then a lot irreversible damage is already done. Makes no sense to be financially secure, but you’re miserable because you’re unhealthy. @@Msangel06 you have to start somewhere. I’m African. I came to America alone at age 18. My parents and siblings are still in Africa. I came here on a full scholarship to attend college. When I got here, my plan was to do engineering but several people told me I should go into nursing cos it’s cheaper, faster and I’ll always have a job. As a man, I felt awkward going into nursing and then I met several male nurses who were doing great financially and they are the ones that gave me the advice. I started out as a home health nurse, then went to med surg and then became an icu nurse. While as an icu nurse, I got other licenses like ccrn, TNCC for trauma and also trained in cardiac, neuro and trauma icu. After 5 years working as a nurse, I started working as a travel nurse wayyy before covid. What I earn in 1 week covers all my bills for a month. It has been a true struggle getting to this level. My 20s were not fun. I was working hard and grinding my way thru it. My 30s have been way better than my 20s cos I can buy whatever I want and do whatever I want.
My advice to you is it’s not too late to start. You have to start something and commit to it. Even if you go into the trades. I know plumbers and carpenters making well over 200k a year. I know a handyman making over 250k a year. There are many areas you can go into. College isn’t everything but as long as you start somewhere and always live below your means.

I wash my hair every 6 to 8 weeks but I only twist or interlock my hair 3 times a year. I keep an essential oil blend on them only for moisture. They are very light weight, never stink, and they are at my butt now 😅😂 I make my oil product here if you’re interested. I’ve been using this since I created it in 2009 when I started my natural journey. 🥰 scentperbulous.com/product/hibiscus-clove-essential-oil-for-hair/

Biggest thing I would recommend the younger generation get into is investing. Compound interest is a game changer. Credit cards isn’t a bad thing but use cash. If you don’t have enough cash to buy something… you can’t afford it simple! Also separate your money. I use the envelope method but with savings accords. It works extremely well for me to help me save.

I think that with longevity came this thinking that we had time. People before (or so I read) used to have a sense of usrgency to do something by 30 or before 35. It seems many of us were just living and then turned around and now we 40... like what?! Great advice. Take care of things, make a good blueprint for your life. Dont rush relationships and kids. One thing that matters in your 20s…BUY A HOUSE!!! Idk if it wasn’t a great deal, wait 10 years and it looks amazing every time. I bought at 25, it doubled in value by the time I was 28. I’m 31 and I’m going for house number 4 and it’s possible because my mortgage and hoa in the townhouse I live in is a total of $500 a month; it would currently cost me $1200 a month to rent this same townhouse and I’d not gain appreciation.
It’d be nearly impossible for me to be broke by the time I’m 40 because I first bought 15 years before I turned 40

My birthday is next week I'll be 45 and just sent my 20year old this video. I ended up filing chapter 7 bankruptcy a few years back in 2020. And I have been all over my daughter about taking control of her finances NOW and not ending up in my position. I have always wanted to set her up for a successful future. She is still living with me because she currently doesn't make enough to move out on her own. She's an assistant manager at her job and enjoys it immensely. I did let her know because she loves her job I don't want her to change it but have recommended she takes some certificate programs to further her education. She went to an Early college high School and graduated with her associates degree but isn't interested in continuing her college education at this time. She has shown slight interest in investing and has been saving her money so much better than I was at her age. My parents didn't educate me about finances and so I was oblivious to knowing how money works. Thank you for this video.

Love the video, lots of great info. The only thing I take a bit of issue with is recommending "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". In my opinion, the first chapter is pretty good, but the rest of the book will harm you more than help you if you take it to heart. Robert Kiyosaki is broke, and generally speaking it's best not to take financial advice from broke people.

    • @starrcarterfinance

Rich Dad Poor Dad and many financial educators you have to use discernment. Eat the meat but spit out the bones. You know what the Ol Folks used to say, “ Do as I Say, Not as I Do”. If he is broke, somewhere down the road he forgot his own principles or wasn’t living what he was teaching, and that happens a lot. Look at a lot of religious leaders. I still will recommend the book because he does drop gems, too bad he isn’t living what he teaching 🤷🏽‍♀️
