    Thank you. I'm laughing to myself because my 2002 Chevy S10 stopped working last night after I filled the tank with gas. Your video has calmed me down. Your Walmart shorts with tech pocket like I wear, and the Walmart screwdriver like I use, have encouraged me that I can do what you did with your truck. Thank you for the video. It is the clearest presentation I found.

    So after I remove the bed and get new part, can I use the old assembly system on the pump, and just order just the pump ,or should I order the whole unit, which is another 59$

      +scan Man On these old odb1 pre 96 vehicles I don't think the computer actually has a way to measure the fuel pressure so I don't think it could make it code however when mine was going out it was coding for bad Oxygen sensor and after I replaced the pump it never did it again. I think it may have been running lean or even trying to compensate and running rich due to low fuel pressure and coding for o2 sensor. Newer odb2 post 1996 cars with more sophisticated computers may be able to code for it but my 96 c1500 never coded when it went out either. If it is a obd1 truck you can read the codes using this method in my other video. Let me know what codes you are getting.th-cam.com/video/h6WaRdoooLk/w-d-xo.htmlth-cam.com/video/h6WaRdoooLk/w-d-xo.htmlth-cam.com/video/h6WaRdoooLk/w-d-xo.htmlth-cam.com/video/h6WaRdoooLk/w-d-xo.html

      +Jonathan Rader --I have an 03 Sonoma-and the annalyzer at my discretion. It said -lack of pressure--? . I didnt read it, but I was told my problem is in the fuel line somewhere.. Air leak? Well, I replaced the gas cap, and the fillneck, and made sure the ground was good.. And now I got a whining noise coming from behind the cab, and under.. So---I am guessing the pump is going. PLUS--sometimes, I get a whiff of burning plastic.. And--I was wonderring the combo of where to stick the paper clip. I did that on an S-10 once---86... And I did my plugs last October.. THAT was not fun.. Thanx

      @JonathanRader  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +scan Man You may also want to change the fuel filter they can cause low fuel pressure. Does the truck run good? We have an astrovan and the fuel pump has always made a high pitch whining noise and we have driven it for about 10 years so noise may not necessarily be bad I guess it would depend on what it sounds like. I guess if the noise just showed up it could be different to?

      +Jonathan Rader The former owner felt GM products made after 2000, are indestructable. As soon as i got it--it starting acting like a regular old vehicle... It runs fine. I floored it once on top of route 95 bridge that connects NH to ME. Well, as soon as the engine wound up, that IDIOT LIGHT ( how that light is reffered to here ) flashed about 10 times and stopped. never doing it again. So--yeah, the filter is 1 of the few things i haven't messed with yet. Heater core--before October... Thanks again..

      I am not sure what you mean exactly? There should be a ring that you have to press down and rotate to lock in place and hold the fuel pump assembly in the tank.

    thank you for the video. my 91 s10 distributor went out and after I replaced it and had spark my truck still would not start because apparently the fuel pump gave out immediately afterwards. Do you know if this is common?

    • @JonathanRader
      @JonathanRader  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont know if its common for the distributor and fuel pump to go out at the same time but back in 2009 before I knew much about repairs I had the clutch replaced on my 88 s10. He told me it was finished but, when I went to pick it up the fuel pump had went out and since it was at his place I had to pay him to fix that too. He said he test drove it before I got there and it had worked. This was one of the reasons I started to take intrest in automotive repair. It seems like fuel pumps like to go randomly and this usually happens at a bad time. Is your s10 a v6 or the 4 cylinder. I have 2 s10s with the 2.5 4 cylender, a 87 and 88. I rebuilt the engine on the 87 and have had to replace the distributers on both trucks the 88 has 205k and still runs great. these are great little trucks.

    • @josemartinezisais3835
      @josemartinezisais3835 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a 4 cylinder 2.5. It has 180k it was running fine until it started intermittently dying but it would start right back up. Until one day it just wouldn't start. Thats when I replaced the distributor cause I had no spark. Now I have no fuel and I know this because if I spray carburetor cleaner while cranking it starts for a little then dies again. Thank you for replying.

      Jose Martinez Do you know if you are getting fuel up to the injectors? Have you replaced the fuel filter? If you remove the fuel filter and leave the fuel line open then turn the key will it spray gas out? If it doesnt then the fuel pump is probably bad. I found the s10 forum to be extreamly helpful. You may want to search it for better info then I can give you. www.s10forum.com/forum/2-5l-1st-gen-4-banging/ Thanks and good luck.

    before you guys replaced your fuel pump would your truck go "bump bump bump" ? mine does and i have to shut it off and start her up aagain and rev the engine a little... also when i start it in the morning it would almost stall..

    • @JonathanRader
      @JonathanRader  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my case it was running kindof weak for a little while before it went out it was almost acting like the fuel filter was clogged. It was like it wasnt putting out enough pressure but it still worked. Then one day it just wouldn't start and when I took off the filter and turned the key no gas squirted out so I knew the pump was gone. I don't know if thats any help at all but its always a good idea to replace the filter first because they have the same symptoms.

      its been on sinse i got the truck 10 months ago. it ussualy goes away about 3 minutes after i start the truck tho

    • @JonathanRader
      @JonathanRader  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't see you mention what year or engine your truck has. If its a pre 1994 you can read the codes yourself with a paperclip. Under the dash on the drivers side there's a diagnostic port. If you short out the two pins on the top right and turn the key to the on position without cranking it will cause it to blink the codes to you using the service engine soon light. It will blink each code 3 times. These are all 2 digit codes. It will first blink code 12 3 times. This means the computer is alive and well then it will blink the error codes. I hope this is helpful. If you have a 94 or up don't do this it needs a computer hookup. You can post your codes if you are able to read them.

    Hey i know this videos a little older but im hoping i can get contact with you..i have am 86 s10 and the fuel pumps out, because of your video i see how too fix it the only problem i have is that i dont know what tools too use like what do i use too get the bed off? Im no mechanic man so if you by chance see this please help me out lol

    • @JonathanRader
      @JonathanRader  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe it is a 15 mm socket to get off the bed. If they are too rusty then there is a fair chance they will break so be careful when removing them. I don't remember all the other tools I used but they were pretty basic. I don't think it requires anything special.

      +al hart Only 110k When I got it there was a hole in a piston due to it dropping a valve. I replaced the piston and re-ringed the other 3. I also replaced the oil pump and the bearings while I was in there. I wish I would have replaced the lifters as well because I have one that is ticking pretty bad. I have about 20k On the rebuild.

    I got a 93 s10 was driving fine till I ran outta gas its getting spark and fuel was running but not no more but still getting spark and fuel

    • @JonathanRader
      @JonathanRader  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jordan Richmond Running out of gas is hard on the pumps because the gas cools and lubricates the motors and no gas = no cooling/Lubrication. You said you have spark and fuel but I am wondering if your fuel pressure is to low to run. I have had situations where I had fuel from the pump but the pressure was way low and it wouldn't run. You should check your fuel filter first. It may have caught some junk when you ran out of gas and caused a blockage. Filters can be tested easily by blowing on them in the direction of flow. There should be very little resistance if it is good. That is a good place to start. Also I know that these engines are supposed to run around 11psi fuel pressure if you can get access to a pressure gauge. I don't know what steps you have taken so far but I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and good luck.

      +mothertree It looks like the pump he listed is for a vortec engines that were introduced in 1996 I believe. Your 94 4.3 should be throttle body injection just like my old S10 in the video. Tbi fuel pumps are 9-13 psi while Vortec fuel pumps are like 60 Psi so they are not compatible. This should work it will fit a code z tbi 4.3 like what you have.
